i never had any on my trumpets but ive chanced it all now ive got the old SU one on agen .works nicer in my case but dont look like that would do you any favors at all lol
Yes, this is true, however, I ran these under protest as K&N let me down. I fitted them as per the instructions. What I didnt like was that I found the inside of the throttle bodies to be 'gritty' after 1200 miles, and oiling them killed the performance. The car featured above, and mine now run filters by APE racing which actualy fit with a decent amount of filter area and are just as good as the K&Ns, unlike all the Chinese filters knocking about. All leasons learned with these new conversions.
@MiniSprocket a brilliant alternative to k+n or pipercrap is green cotton. they supply 90% of the WRC paddock as well as gt racing, mud pull tractors and even RC cars. every application you can think of, they will have a filter for it. and they do not use oil. they have an igenious solution..... they make the filters acualy filter the air... brilliant idea really. lol
the filters are incorrectly fitted. They have to be a certain distance from the bell of the inlet to enable enough air to be drawn- if they are not, then they suck in as can be seen here- which can cause problems as they can break up and be sucked into the engine- i've watched this happen!
Shirley the foam has a metal mesh support inside? Ideally I reckon the bellmouths should open into a filtered airbox, but there's no room with the cylinder head this way round. ;-)

They are not fitted correctly.... at least 15mm between the trumpet and the inside of the sock
then these would flow more than enough air for this application
