Hopefully one day I'll get a rat (or two, since they are social type). :-)
rats are very intelligent and affectionate. When they are well cared for there is no reason why they should carry diseases any more than any other leaving beings.
@pokemonmisty101 Rats are very clean animals, only the feral ones that roaming around the wild or the sewers would be carrying serious diseases, and I'm willing to bet they wouldn't even let you near them. In any case, do some research on them, buy more than one (a singular rat tends to get stressed out when it has no one around to bond with) and have fun!
Never let anyone make you think rats are disgusting. As I type this, my dumbo is running around my room, bugging me, and trying to see what I'm doing on the computer. @brittybby2010 My dumbo's are running around my room as I read this... I first got them when I lived in rez so I got used to everyone coming in my dorm going "omg you have RATS?!" Yes. Yes I do. And I'm a very proud owner. Each rat has it's own little rat personality, temperament, additude and I love watching them play;; Honestly, I love kids, and I see so many similarities in rat behaviour :P

I'd love to have a pet rat, but their lifespan is too short to my liking. I'd rather have a squirrel... But maybe they're better off left in the wild. :(
He's so stinkin' cute! I wished they lived longer. I've had rats since I was a little girl up until now. It's just so hard when they pass on. I hope to rescue more in the future though. They are probably my favorite pets ever, followed by dogs and ferrets. <3

I miss my pet rat Gibbs so much, he passed away a year ago :-(. Ive had dogs my whole life...and ill be honest rats are better pets than dogs. I just wish they lived longer.
What I usually do when I find rats is mix cement and sugar in a plate. The sugar attracts them so they eat the mixing. The cement hardens in their stomachs as it mixes with the liquids and their insides' harden as they die.

i was picked on in school all last year cause i had pet rats . 1 day after school , ounce again i was getting picked on the bus , so diecide 2 get rid of them , i got off the bus , went 2 my room . they came running out of their little house in the cage like they always do wen i come home , they knew somthing was wrong . i just looked at them and then i started having flashbacks about the good times we had . i disided to keep them . all the love i see in there faces makes it worth it in the end

I always tell anyone who wants a hamster that rats are so much better! They're smart,affectionate and loving. They keep the same schedule most kids do and don't mind being woken up to play. Most people cringe at the thought, but if they get one anyway, they learn that it's all true. Rats are one of the best small pets,they really are.
@counterclockwise123 They run for around 5-10 bucks at Petsmart, Petco, or some other local pet store, not including the terrarium, litter, food, and other accessories though of course. They make great pets if you take proper care of them, and can be very playful and affectionnate. You should consult your local store about the matter if you want to know more. :D

My first rat was sunshine. She was an albino with red eyes and I loved her dearly. she died of a stupid tunor on her tummy. I got 2 others, Princess and Cinnamon. Cinnamon died of a tumor and princess died of pnemonia. When I had Princess, I bredded her with a male raffin named Remi.Note raffin=rat, and she had4 litters of adorable little angels. yes, 1 died, and when to heaven but I enjoyed every second of being with them. I am now happy with 2 females. Bloo and Oreo. Raffins are the best pets
Whenever I have children meet my rats they adore them. It's always their parents that shy away from hugging one. I've even once had a girl get very upset by the way they're always painted as evil in films.
One of my teacher's jobs is working in a prison. When taking inmates to do jobs at the shelter, just about the first thing they get to do is handle the rats since they're so well behaved!
Timo used to come running from the bedroom when I called him. I would scratch the floor with my finger and he would run over to me and climb up to my shoulder and kiss my cheek. That is a smart and loving pet!

@SeewahBeewah I used to have hamsters and let me tell you, rats are waaaaaaaaaaaaay more friendly. Hamsters will put up with being with you, rats will follow you around, TRYING to be with you. Every rat is different, but most really bond with people :) They're like little dogs!
True words. Hamsters are lone riders and can be quite ninja. They are more capable an willing of fending off other anilmals, like snakes. I have 6 Rats and had another 2 a few years ago. I *never* got bitten. Some of them don't like to be handled and run away, when my hand comes without food, but most of them are so adorable, I'm part of the pack. They groom me and all. It's really a shame that many people can't look beyond their physical appearence that they claim to be ugly.
Rats have more love in their little hearts that 10 humans do! They just want to give love! And what more rewarding than give them companionship, and cherish these amazing little critters! I simply adore rats!
Aww, reminds me of Jimmy. He was the sweetest rat I've ever had. He'd sit on your lap for hours and let you pet him till he fell asleep, and he gave lots of kisses. I miss him. :/

My ratter boys had gotten out in the middle of the night and my bf woke me saying he thought something was in our bed... turned out it was Ticko Baby... he came straight to us after "escaping" 3 rooms away and up onto our bed and pillows. :( I miss my ratter boys, seriously amazing pets I wish they lived just a little bit longer.

I bought a rat when I was 12. My mom had a friend working at the pet store and she knew I'd be coming in to buy a PET. My mom had thought of a hamster or something else "cute", but I fell for a silvery grey female rat named Loppan (Flea). My mom freaked out and wanted me to return my precious ratty, but I refused. After 5 months, my mom was walking around with Loppan on her shoulder, and she cried when Loppan died from cancer...Rats are wonderful animals, and the perfect small pet!
@Bastarden My mom was horrified when I wanted my first rat. It wasn't long till she was snuggling with him and giving him kisses. I wish more people would give them a chance.

@Lori46017 Bravo! Continue to stand up for yourself, your friends and what you believe in. Bullies will come and go but you'll learn that what they say or think isn't that important. I am way older than you and have two rats that I LOVE!! They were sick and I nursed them back to health. When I come home from work, they always want to cuddle and play. It always makes me happy, especially after a bad day. BTW, I'm an ER nurse, firefighter and a girl and NO ONE dares to make fun of my kids!

@Lori46017 Are you in Middle School?, because if you are, that doesn't surprise me. Harassment is a big issue in middle schools because most middle schoolers are immature. Look at everyone on YouTube. So many people got rats, and you're just one of those people. I'm glad you decided to keep your kids (the rats). Some people just don't understand. I don't have rats, and I understand the bond between people and their pets. Rats are lovable, affectionate, and have become REALLY popular.

I always tell anyone who wants a hamster that rats are so much better! They're smart,affectionate and loving. They keep the same schedule most kids do and don't mind being woken up to play. Most people cringe at the thought, but if they get one anyway, they learn that it's all true. Rats are one of the best small pets,they really are.

@counterclockwise123 They run for around 5-10 bucks at Petsmart, Petco, or some other local pet store, not including the terrarium, litter, food, and other accessories though of course. They make great pets if you take proper care of them, and can be very playful and affectionnate. You should consult your local store about the matter if you want to know more. :D

I love rats. They're so sweet, smart and sometimes "mischievous"! I'm allergic though, so I got a hedgehog instead, which is also supercute and loving. No allergies and plenty of love.

My first rat was sunshine. She was an albino with red eyes and I loved her dearly. she died of a stupid tunor on her tummy. I got 2 others, Princess and Cinnamon. Cinnamon died of a tumor and princess died of pnemonia. When I had Princess, I bredded her with a male raffin named Remi.Note raffin=rat, and she had4 litters of adorable little angels. yes, 1 died, and when to heaven but I enjoyed every second of being with them. I am now happy with 2 females. Bloo and Oreo. Raffins are the best pets

Whenever I have children meet my rats they adore them. It's always their parents that shy away from hugging one. I've even once had a girl get very upset by the way they're always painted as evil in films.
One of my teacher's jobs is working in a prison. When taking inmates to do jobs at the shelter, just about the first thing they get to do is handle the rats since they're so well behaved!

Timo used to come running from the bedroom when I called him. I would scratch the floor with my finger and he would run over to me and climb up to my shoulder and kiss my cheek. That is a smart and loving pet!

I have two pet rats named Athena & Vanilla. So many people underestimate rats. They call the dirty? Well most pet rats are cleaner then the average hamster or dog. Mean? THEY ARE SO SWEET! Stupid? I want one so bad! I have a robo dwarf (used to have two till one died) and i love her to pieces but she bites sooooo much. She bit me yesterday cuz i tried to pet her and she was moody. i want her to be like this! it drew blood too.... :(

@SeewahBeewah I used to have hamsters and let me tell you, rats are waaaaaaaaaaaaay more friendly. Hamsters will put up with being with you, rats will follow you around, TRYING to be with you. Every rat is different, but most really bond with people :) They're like little dogs!

True words. Hamsters are lone riders and can be quite ninja. They are more capable an willing of fending off other anilmals, like snakes. I have 6 Rats and had another 2 a few years ago. I *never* got bitten. Some of them don't like to be handled and run away, when my hand comes without food, but most of them are so adorable, I'm part of the pack. They groom me and all. It's really a shame that many people can't look beyond their physical appearence that they claim to be ugly.

Aww, reminds me of Jimmy. He was the sweetest rat I've ever had. He'd sit on your lap for hours and let you pet him till he fell asleep, and he gave lots of kisses. I miss him. :/

My ratter boys had gotten out in the middle of the night and my bf woke me saying he thought something was in our bed... turned out it was Ticko Baby... he came straight to us after "escaping" 3 rooms away and up onto our bed and pillows. :( I miss my ratter boys, seriously amazing pets I wish they lived just a little bit longer.

I bought a rat when I was 12. My mom had a friend working at the pet store and she knew I'd be coming in to buy a PET. My mom had thought of a hamster or something else "cute", but I fell for a silvery grey female rat named Loppan (Flea). My mom freaked out and wanted me to return my precious ratty, but I refused. After 5 months, my mom was walking around with Loppan on her shoulder, and she cried when Loppan died from cancer...Rats are wonderful animals, and the perfect small pet!
