we have allisons behind cummins in alot of our fleet tractor trailers.nothing less than trouble free since,well our oldest ones being 2002 models.and they are used in stop and go city type traffic.our older (1996-2002)yard dogs use a 5.9 cummins and our newest one 6.7cummins with allisons behind them.also trouble free.this combination is very common outside of the automotive manufactures and it seems to work pretty desent.but most importantly.....great video....

At over 1000 hp the dodge 48re actually holds together better than an allison. The 48re sucks from the factory but are great trannys with a converter and valve body.

@bob1sded diesel power....few issues ago...24v cummins mated to allison inside a superduty....ultimate truck, i still like ford's 5R110 shifting strategy/feel destroked . com sell adapter plates for almost any transmission (to mate to cummins) ... allison is too damn expensive to be playing with, got a buddy with his truck sitting, for 4 months now cant find an affordable replacement, 7 grand rebuilt 4-5 grand used...

They have a bigger input shaft but they also have an alluminum fluid pump vs the dodge which has a cast pump. Also the cost of replacing an Allison is way more than replacing the dodge. Diesels also tend to show black smoke when they are working hard. Other engines you just don't notice because they use a more processed fuel that looks cleaner when it's burned. Remember almost everyone drive, shit loads of people smoke pot. Lot's more pollution than a weekend at a drag strip. Don't sweat it. And please don't try and throw the big "hydrocarbon" word at me and play I am a smart pot head. I know it doesn't make you stupid. I know more than you think about weed and it's properties.

Not quite. Gasoline engines are very sensitive to fuel/air ratios. If you pump an excess of fuel into a gasoline engine, the engine will stall out. If you do so in a diesel, the heated and partly combusted fuel will exit the exhaust stacks as black smoke.

Btw I took muffler off my s10, now it pollutes more but it sounds awesome. Do I rationalize it, no, it fucking sounds good and that's all that matters. That diesel pulls, sounds good, and looks good. So who cares besides you and any other tree hugger. I also drive a 2 cylcle go kart capable of over 100mph. You should see the smoke come out of that thing. :p

Why would a MUFFLER cause more pollution or lessen it? The only POLLUTION item on your exhaust is your catalytic converter.

On top of that, the diesel is smoking because of unburnt fuel burning in the turbo/exhaust. Excess fuel can be used on situations like this to help light off the turbo and help build boost.

The problem is diesel takes quite a while to burn, and can't quite get done in the RPM's needed.

Diesel can be much cleaner because it can be run super lean as well.

What? No it isn't. It is a SOUND RESONATOR. No emissions at all. The newest diesels have a DPF or Diesel Particulate Filter. but the muffler has nothing to do with the emissions.
