I do not believe it is so much as "the water makes the oil sink in faster" versus the oil on damp hair creates a barrier along the shaft of the hair keeping water in the cortex longer. Hot/warm oil treatments work because the warmth causes the cuticule to lift and for the oil to seep in. Cold oil treatments work if you put on a shower cap on and let the natural heat off your head to do the work. You can cut soak time in half by wearing a shower cap and taking a warm bath. :P
Hi, i use oil in my hair everytime i wash it...i noticed you apply it to dry hair, i'd suggest you to spray some water in your hair before applying any oil, that makes the oil sink in more deeply! :-)
Hello! I have watched you for awhile and I love your vids :) About the coconut oil and water thing, I really agree with you. I understand your logic behind it and that's what I thought at first too! The thing is, when I saturate my hair with coconut oil, my ends feel like VELCRO! So I tried using a lot less of the oil, and my hair felt less velcro-y. Then I tried applying coconut oil (medium amount,) to my wet ends and dry length and when I washed-- WHAZAMMM-- silky smooth ends. :)??
I have a question~ I don't have oily hair so much but I get pimples on my scalp sometimes. I don't know my father gets them too so it might be genetic. Anyway, I was wondering, do you think if I did a hot oil treatment with olive oil would I get more pimples on my scalp? I'm too scared to try and see for myself, so I'd like your opinion on it. Thanks for reading. ♥
@MissFoto1 I am surely not Loopsie, but as a user of coconut oil i think i can answer your questin - it is fine to store it somewhere cool, but not straight in the sunlight. Storing it in the fridge would only make the use of it harder :)
I just discovered your channel and LOVE it!! I probably missed this, but I didn't hear you say how often to apply the oil to your hair!! Thanks for your videos!!
If u don't mind I wanted to tell u tht u should leave oil in ur hair more then two hours . N yes its very very hot here n cocounut oil is liquid all year long n only alil bit solid in the winter in only Dec. :) n if u use olive oil n coconut oil mixed every other day it'll make ur hair thick:)
I've applied coconut oil on my hair wet for the first time after I heard you used it. My Mom bought the stuff and I didn't use it cause I was like "put more oil in my hair?" But my hair is long (like to my butt pretty much) and I get frizzy ends, and I hate it!! So I used it and IT HELPS!!!!! Yay!!! And my hair is pretty and smooth!! But I might try it on dry.. Thank you for this!
Oils are best to be applied on wet hair, so the oils can trap the moisture in the hair. This way your hair's moisture will be replenished and at the same time, after the moisture has been absorbed, the oils can act as a protector and your hair can benefit from the nutrients better after it has been hydrated. This works just the same way on skin. The moisture-oil level will be balanced an the hair will be less brittle. ~^_^~

Hi! I really like your tutorials and have learned a lot from them. But, have you considered to stop using coconut oil? It's very bad for the rainforest and therefore the world to use palm tree products such as palm and coconut oil. It's great that you say you can substitute it with almost any other natural oil. That should be done by everyone! Thanks!
@Aonly413 I can see how using palm oil would be bad for the rainforest, but harvesting coconuts leaves the trees intact so I don't think it'll do any damage, actually...
Hi Lucy!!! I have a question for you. You have mentioned that any natural oil would be good for your hair and i remembered that my mom has some castor oil at home because one of my cousins uses it to keep his eyelashes long, thick and healthy. So, i looked for videos here on youtube about it and some people say it is good for hair growth but they say that they apply it on their scalp. Have you ever tried it? Do you think it would work? How would you wash it off? Thank you! =)
@viloy100 I've heard that castor oil works wonders =) Every person's hair will react differently though so no results are guaranteed. I'd advise you to apply it on your scalp, leave it in for a couple of hours (overnight perhaps?) and wash it out with shampoo after that =)
@Loepsie Thank you so much for writing me back! I think i'll try it out today =) maybe this will help me to have longer hair so i can finally use your sock bun secret with my hair lol =P btw I love your channel!
hey :)) i have a question for you ... i was looking for coconut oil for really long time ... and i finally found it ... yay :) ... but ... i found it in a body shop, and it was quite expensive ... they asked 6.50 Euro for 50 grams ... so i would like to know, where did you buy your coconut oil ... thank you for answer :))
I use coconut oil as a makeup remover, hair conditioner, skin moisturizer, lip moisturizer, on burns (it heals because of antioxidants.) You want to make sure your getting organic, cold pressed coconut oil otherwise it will be lacking antioxidants and could have unnatural fillers. I love coconut oil, I'm like the windex guy from the movie my big fat greek wedding. BTW I really like your channel :)
@strangepickles To be honest I don't know off hand... I'll use anything that's certified organic and you would consume. I get it out of the cooking oils section of The Nugget grocery store.
Yesterday, I bought some coconut oil. And I've put it like 1000 times in my hair.. It is really addicting.. =D I just put it on the tips and so my hair didn't get greasy at all. And I love the smell and the feeling it leaves in my hair and that it detangles my hair and the simplicity of the application and I could add several more points... Thank you so much for this great tip!
Lucy, another question for you, I came across a comment once somewhere about oil treatments/ hair masks. There was a logical argument on why are person would add oil to their hair. The argument points were 1. Why would you add oil to your hair if your hair already produces the amount of oil it needs. 2. By adding 'fake' oil, your your body stops secreting enough its oil-so you pretty much throw your system off. Can you explain these two, please? It makes logical sense, but I want to hear you out
@frichikendz You are right about the scalp producing the oils hair needs. When your hair gets really long though, the natural oils from your scalp never reach your ends. You'd have to stop washing your hair for months for that to happen, some people do it but not very many =P That's why you'd only apply oil on the length and ends, the roots indeed don't need it and you'd throw your system off by applying it there ^-^
@frichikendz I asked her the same question and she didn't answer me, it looks like she only answers "uploaders" questions, but maybe now that multiple people have asked this she will answer! when I got my coconut oil a few weeks ago it was solid, because the store was air condicioned, but at home it started to melt slowly and now it's completly fluid.
It goes from 22-27 degrees during day by now, and it stays fluid, I don't think it's a problem, it's even easier to apply :)
this video was great, and very helpful! I always wondered about hot oil treatments and a way to make it more natural and cheaper for at home. Thank you so much!
I don't understand everything you said, so I don't know if you said this it in the video... oil should always be applied on wet hair (or skin) or else they will dry!! :)

I'm so confused whether to apply to wet or dry hair!!! Some people say apply to dry and others to wet! Does anyone have any facts?!
I've been using it as an overnight treatment on dry hair for the last couple of weeks and my hair does feel softer....but now I'm wondering whether wet hair would be better!!
I use coconut oil for my hair, but I have heard that jojoba oil is great for hair growth. Do you know if that's true or have you ever tried it? Right now my hair is BSL but I'm trying to get it to waist length, so I'm wondering if jojoba would help.

I have layered hair that im growing out, so many layers its difficult to find the ends and stop them getting dry when applying oil, any tips? also, its not that oil and water repel, they just cant mix due to diferent densities
@22kimita I prefer coconut oil for every day use, and olive oil for oil treatments =) Olive oil is a lot heavier than coconut oil, it makes my hair look greasy instantly so during the day I'll use coconut oil.
acutely, your suppose to leave it under running hot water and it melts, i then pour a small amount into a spray bottle and spray it on my ends and then pour the rest back in the jar
@ihateluvstories I think you should be fine as long as you wash it out well afterwards =) It shouldn't clogg up pores after one night, so I'd say about 8 hours...
In a lot of countries it is hotter than 25°C year round. Especially in African countries where they traditionally use coconut oils on hair. In the US African Americans will switch to another oil during winter time, because it can make their hair looking grey.
It's true, the oil melts when it's hot. Summer in the Mediterranean is very hot and I had put my coconut oil in a pump. Then, when Autumn arrived, it turned solid butter and I had to put in a bain-marie to melt it gently. That's a good way to melt your coconut butter, if you wish to add and mix essential oils.

In warmer countries it would probably be liquid most of the time.. I'm in Australia and it's 40 degrees in summer and stays around 20 degrees in winter :P But because you're in Europe it's obviously colder. Great video! :)

@22kimita I prefer coconut oil for every day use, and olive oil for oil treatments =) Olive oil is a lot heavier than coconut oil, it makes my hair look greasy instantly so during the day I'll use coconut oil.
Loepsie 1 year ago
@22kimita Oh and I leave it on until washing day, unless I'm doing an oil treatment. That I do wash out after a few hours =)

Coconut oil is the BOMB, you can use it for skin, hair and cooking haha!

acutely, your suppose to leave it under running hot water and it melts, i then pour a small amount into a spray bottle and spray it on my ends and then pour the rest back in the jar

but i heard that if u live oil on for too much long it can close the pores of your head. How many hours do u recommend?
ihateluvstories 1 year ago

What kind of oils would you recommend for a hot oil treatment?
Moonwatcher19 1 year ago
@Moonwatcher19 Olive or coconut =) Olive is a quite heavy oil so it's perfect for a deep conditioning ^-^
Loepsie 1 year ago
@Moonwatcher19 Jojoba oil is the best for all types of hair.
It's basically a liquid wax so it's not heavy as many other oils. :))

In warmer countries it would probably be liquid most of the time.. I'm in Australia and it's 40 degrees in summer and stays around 20 degrees in winter :P But because you're in Europe it's obviously colder. Great video! :)
