Just saw her twice in SAVING AIMEE in Seattle. This is an intense, tour de force star role she was born to play. Absolutely thrilling to watch her knock song after song out of the park while acting the part exquisitely.
I just don't know how Marin Mazzie...as lovely as she is....has been cast in the Carrie remake as Margaret White. It should have been Julia Murney or Carolee Carmello. Marin is just do darn...lovely, while Carolee and Julia can be dark.
@lcowles I have to disagree about Marin being "too lovely." I saw her as Diane in Next to Normal on broadway and she was about as dark as they come. I think she's a wonderful actress with a lot of depth.
One of the most wonderful, kindest, and talented people I've ever met! She is hilarious and show-stopping in Addams Family with "Waiting", god I love her. (did you know she's never had a single official singing lesson?) I agree, she needs to star in her own musical-she's fantastic!
Her talent and presence is incredible. Words can not describe how much I look up to this woman. She is one of the best song interpreters in the biz today
Miss Carolee is a goddess of song, a marvelous actress and a lovely person--and SO beautiful. What is wrong with the songwriters, et al of today that they're not climbing over one another to create new shows for her?! Too bad we don't get the entire song here, but thank you so much for posting this. For those just meeting this song, do get the cd of Finn's ELEGIES, to hear the story/song leading into this one. Just be sure to have a box of tissues nearby.
Her belt is a natural "Mix Belt" which means that her range and ability to sing "Legit" are much greater than most remember. But she was, of course, Marin Mazzie's Replacement in the revival of KISS ME KATE, which is one of the more extremely legit soprano roles in Musical Theater. Carolee ALSO played the role of Abigail Adams when 1776 transferred from the Roundabout to Broadway, which is a role that essentially consists ONLY of legit soprano singing.
that's unbelievable! she sounds, to me, like she would be classically trained. her vibrato is so strong and intense and her pitch is consistently perfect. i just love her.
What an amazing singer this woman is - if you haven't heard it, listen to her singing "You Don't Know This Man" from the musical "Parade". Just incredible!
Without a warm-up or a voice lesson...She says the only preparation for singing she ever does is to clear her throat. As a singer its both unfathomable and absolute, concrete proof of her brilliance...A brilliance not taught at a conservatory or drilled into her head in a studio....Complete, and absolute natural brilliance...And completely amazing in every way

The first time I heard this CD (and this song specifically following Monica & Mark), I cried hysterically.
It is heartbreakingly beautiful to listen to them back to back.

Carolee Carmello is THE most talented singer on Broadway. She is amazing. She has so much natural talent, that it scares me.
Random Fact - She's never had a voice lesson in her entire life!!!
