  • LOL.. Thanks for showing a technique that's been in wrestling a lot longer than shuai jiao..lol.. But it's nice to see you guys expanding your horizons and looking to other wrestling arts for throws.

  • @luckyglasspig

Chinese Wrestling is older than greeks...

  • @OVERCAPITALIZE I think there is a point here, somewhere. But you fail to make it. The way they are performing this technique has been used in wrestling ALOT longer than shuai jiao, just look at the old books on their wrestling, they do a double leg like a football player would. So, unless you have a real point to make, stop being a troll.

  • @OVERCAPITALIZE You've mentioned how long its been around, but this technique isn't in it. Look at the documentation. Sorry, but I've studied this art and wrestled with the guys who practice it. They wouldn't know how to defend a double leg if you drew them a picture. This is a recent development in shuai jiao , a cross over from other arts. It happens. Move on and stop being a wanker.

  • @OVERCAPITALIZE Besides, look at the setup. HE'S USING A DUCK UNDER!!! No where, in shuai jiao or any of the techniques of judo do you see a wrestling duck under. It's ALWAYS break grip, and pull your opponent off balance. These are jacket arts, the duck under is viewed as useless and only no jacket wrestlers would know to use it. If this isn't glaringly obvious to you then you sir/ or madam do not wrestle and have zero experience in it.

  • @OVERCAPITALIZE In wrestling yes. Have you studied shuai jiao? I worked out at Ohio State University with the shuai jiao club for 3 years while in school. They don't teach duck under throws. Its not in the curriculum. They teach traditional, so does the other club in Columbus Ohio, so do Cleveland clubs. This is only being taught in china because the shuai jiao guys there cross train with the wrestlers and the judo players ( who picked this up from the wrestlers). So yeah,I know my stuff. Do u?

  • @luckyglasspig Actually, you are not correct. Shuai Chiao in fact does do what you call as a wrestling duck under. If you didn't see it at OSU then you just were not exposed to it. Shuai Chiao does use jackets as a tool, however, it is not specifically a jacket art only. that is simply one facet of the training. In fact most of our training has always been without the jacket.

  • @slonsky42 Really? I don't see that anywhere in the traditional texts... It's been assimilated by modern chinese wrestlers because it is not in the texts.. Period. Methods of Chinese wrestling by Tong Zhongyi or Fundamentals of Shuai Chiao by Dr. Daniel Weng show nothing relating to a duck under. And just because you train without a jacket does not mean that is tradition. If you are talking about traditional Shua Chiao, it is not there. You sir are sadly mistaken.

  • @slonsky42 And before you pull rank and say "blah blah I've been training for blah blah years" I don't care. You might be training Shuai Chiao, but to even put an armbar in a Shuai Chiao highlight video shows you either don't know or don't care about traditional chinese wrestling. So you're points are invalid. The art you teach looks like a hybrid of Shuai Chiao kicking throws and Japanes Jujitsu/Aikijutsu arm locks. It's not tradition and shouldn't be sold as such.

  • @luckyglasspig Actually, with all due respect you are ok to have your own opinion. I don't need to pull rank and justify anything. I have respect for Daniel and any other Shuai Chiao master. I'm simply saying that I have been taught what you refer to as a duck under actually in Taiwan twenty some years ago. I'm not saying you were not taught correctly I'm simply asserting that you may not have seen that application in terms of Shuai Chiao.

  • @luckyglasspig ...Actually you have to realize that there are a lot of qualified masters that were taught By GM Chang and that they may have all have different pieces of the puzzle. In terms of kicking ,striking, and joint locking Shuai Chiao includes them all. It Shuai, Da, Na , Ti and it has been included in Shuai Chiao since the beginning due to its military roots. I'm not packaging anything differently. Sorry you have not been exposed to such..

  • @slonsky42 Show me a book with an armbar in it. Doesn't exist. Not to say that the art hasn't evolved over the years to include things learned from other arts, and to think that the Master's never got down from their thrones to wrestle other arts is laughable. I'll hold fast to my opinion that Shuai Chiao "learned" this technique from Wrestling and that it continues to evolve. Every Chinese wrestler I've ever grappled with has proven me this. Your experience differs.

  • @luckyglasspig for starters go to pg 9 of David Lin's book, Chan- Chiao Theory and you will see GM Chang doing a counter to one. I've got video actually of Jeng Hsing Ping showing us the technique in the early 90's along with other ground techniques known as Dai bu su or arresting techniques. Actually Shuai Chiao is translated into Chinese wrestling. In fact Jujitsu is a direct derivative of it. Actually,, where you are correct is in sport Shuai Chiao they do not go to the ground.
