I notice a lot of people saying bad stuff about this guy and making stupid comparisons, through other 'survival' videos uploaded elsewhere. This is my first time watching Ray Mears. So far, I like his show a lot---and for the first time to be watching his show, and the episodes having to do with Robert Rogers---that's a plus!
Not that they had much choice 'back then'...but bears must have been attacking people left & right, because of carrying stuff like bacon around on them. Talk about giving your position away too. Not much you could do about the type of food you could carry back then though.
The Bruchacs are TOTAL FRAUDS, this guy and his brother were blonde haired football surfer boys in Highschool and now they're fucking portraying themselves as fucking Tanto, their phony author dad is only like 1/10 indian and these clows run around pretending to be the last of the mohicans, its pathetic.
@bnsaints Origins aside, he is correct in Wabonaki..Wab is from Wabski (meaning White) Wabonong (Eastern Star) Ahki (Land) ..So that part, is definitely Correct. It is good to hear another Human sharing the break downs of their language .
@MrBushLife I have more tolerance for this Bruchac than his brother or his father. Fine he is correct (according ) to you. My knowledge base deals more with the Iroquois so I would not know. I was just stating how I'm sick of these "phony Indians" milking a heritage they either don't have or just barley have, like this guy and his brother and father.
@bnsaints Fair enough. Off topic, now, I have many many decades of witnessing 'Non-Natives" Stealing, exploiting, Borrowing..lol..our native ways. But I woke up to the fact, that if we, as a people, are going to "SURVIVE" on this planet, this ancient Traditional practice of using anothers survival technique in their territory, transcends our personal feelings. Besides, I am soo tired, of feeling/ being "sick" at the expense of another HUMAN seeking validation on identity...
@MrBushLife yes there is a misleading , dishonesty . But in the end, I ask myself. Does it matter , most of my ppl , here in the N.Canada Bush, are unconcerned about survival in the bush..just staying alive, battling addictions, takes priority over , One family or one persons, attempts of misrepresenting a ppl. I have much greater things to focus on, and that is, keeping our Youth, children alive, not from the weather, but from the addictions. Meegwetch. MinaDenMowin =Respect. :-))
@ I certainly understand that, I saw so many Red haired freckle faced "indians" who are in the Casino industry or claiming natural resource rights it makes me sick. To me unless you are at least a quarter heritage within a generation then you claiming any kind of "indian" street cred is ridiculous. That being said, I come from the area that Mears was discussing in this video. I think hollywood has done a disservice to the Eastern Woodland Indians, as nobody knows of them. So this vid is good.
@PseudoHuman16 here up in the northern canadian woods, we older NDns still use this method. But instead of a Fire bag, we now use Tin boxes (Altoid cans)..filled with a Charred piece from our fires, and everytime we need the fire, it is there, with our flints. This is a True tinder box..not like these new ones , filled with cotton balls, and various fueled up materials. meegwetch. :-))
@MrBushLife Once you get the coal sparked..you take yer handful of grass, or fire material, press it , on your embers, adn blow, voila, you have fire!! place that into your fire setup. close the tin, smother the ember, and use it many many many times..LOl..cheers
you know what would be cool? if ray mears worked with cody lundin and dave cantenbury in the dual survival show but it was called trio survival or something. i would kill to see them all together trying to survive!
@Survivalkrstijan12 If you want to die in the woods because you ate a rotting carcass or fell to your death trying to swing from a vine do what Bear Grylls does
@smeghead666 don't forget drinking his own urine, squeezing elephant turds and drinking the water, have the runs on the side of a sheer 200 foot cliff and eating uncooked bugs and getting stomach parasites. Bear Grylls is a menace and should be turned into grease.
@tSp289 keep hearing that.... it's a complete load of crap... taking risks you don't have to take is never a good option for anyone over the age of 25. Can't "escape" the bush with a broken leg. The show is about entertainment for sensational US garbage TV, nothing more.
@mryellow123 Well, yes, that's mainly true. If you followed Bear Grylls' advice without the right levels of fitness and training you'd most likely end up dead, but he's basing it on the understanding that you'll be in a hurry to get out fo the place, since it comes from a military context. It is pretty entertaining though, even if I do prefer Ray Mears by quite a long way.
@barbarian05 The earliest evidence of some sort of baking powder comes in the form of potash (potassium carbonate), an alkaline substance which was derived from pot ashes and used in cooking as early as the 1760s. Bakers realized that the addition of potash and other carbonates could drastically cut down on kneading time for bread. By the late 1700s, sodium bicarbonate had been discovered, and bakers had realized how useful it could be.
@barbarian05 So actually it is a great question now that I think about it, I am guessing the natives were doing it and the soldiers brought back that informaation. I don't actually know this for fact but it makes some sense to me?
I dont want to criticize because I think this is great, but you should take the bark off the pole youre cooking the bacon on, because bark carries and holds alot of bacteria thanks for great videos!
@wakeoftheflood2 lol seriously you must have bird shit on the pole for it to make any difference seriously that wont kill you... look at what bear grylls eats - he barely ever gets ill!! it just shows you how much the human body can actually take (you would be surprised) after all we are animals too and once ate meat raw...=)
@wakeoftheflood2 "bacteria" is everywhere dude. on you, inside you, in the air your breath, in your lungs, in your hearth, muscles, intestines. it's part of our world :)
@ChronicMist yeah no kidding bacteria is everywhere. but if I can limit the potential to get sick alone in the wild, which is a horrible fate, I am going to do that. Sorry that everyone seems to have a problem with this line of thought.
@wakeoftheflood2 yea, I know what you are talking about, but there aren't any "deadly bacterias" on a piece of wood. maybe if you dip it in a antrax solution, then it wouldn't be something to play with. the facts show that give a to much importance to hygiene, your immune system will weaken and you would get sick alot easier than living a little bit "filthier" :)
i'm lucky to live in the east in a town with a lot of culture- but it's too much of a town that the only true wildlife is in the parks. nothing like this still around until you get more north or to new england
Hehe look for Switzerland, Il live near Geneva (that is far from the swiss capital ROFL) on the swiss Side of the Lake, on the "Jura". it's near the french border. It is very cool, because you can loose yourself in the forest that is veery wide, and 20 miles near you have the neatest disco clubs in Lausanna and geneva. You can skipper on the lake or go skiing on the station nearby!!!
