  • Love this song, thanks for sharing

  • @beb6375 So true, but I think the fact that they were only one hit wonders is a testament to the tremendous scope of the unbelievable musical talent around in the 50s & 60s. Even the low men on the totem pole were incredible, and better than the very "best" we have today. Giants truly walked the earth back then.

  • dreamcaster5...Wow! You should be proud! I've loved that song since the day it first aired on KIMN A.M. radio in '61. Pogo Poge was the dj:)

  • not funny how time slips away---it is downright sad and scary where times goes.

Heard it when I was a wee girl but did not know who sang it till tonight!!!

    Love this song!!!

  • Ain't it funny how time slips away.

    7-6-11

  • Wildwood NJ on the boardwalk in 1961 I was 16 and played this every time I could !

  • ok, i'm going to sound old, but i don't care...they don't make em like this any more...

  • @nicothegreat795 Go to downtown Winnipeg, there are plenty that don't lol

  • @funkybunny9966 lol :)

  • The words popped into my thoughts and I'm so glad it's here. It used to help me cry over a teenage romance gone bad, but now I smile for nostalgic moments. Love the song.

  • time will never decrease the artistry and soul. Long Live The Jarmels

  • de la soul ftw

  • I was born in 81, but I was raised on this stuff. This song is easily one of my all time faves. So much soul, so much truth in his inflection. Epic track. They don't make em like they used to.

  • One of my favorite songs! Great!

  • I really love this song but it ain't a happy song manhatin - it's got really sad words, even though it's upbeat . It's a weird one. Play it again, It's a puzzle. For sure.

  • I just saw them on p.b.s. doo-woops this past week end ,I was amazed at how strong and clear the lead singer's voice still is ,really he sound just as clear as this song sound, AMAZING.

  • @jerri4u2 i saw that too they showed it again last sat and thats why i searched this. I agree about the lead singer hes still got such a great and powerful voice.

  • de la soul sample

  • @etfonetone85 Yep, still lovin that 3 feet high and rising x

  • I have always Liked this Oldie but Goodie. Now I have 1 more reason because it was released the year I was born.

  • @themoshmenace YouTube has a nasty habit of removing videos I like to watch (like the Rolling Stones) due to "copyright" laws. And they do this without any warning, too. I'm sorry, I don't know what else you can switch to.

  • Real music, makes great memories! This is one!

  • i wish i could sing like that.

  • Man the Jarmels, the Corsairs, The Melo Kings-man you just can't beat those vocals and that harmony of those groups.

  • British top cover band Showaddywaddy did a fine cover in 1978 reaching # 5 in the UK charts in Summer 1978.

  • The 3 people that rated this "dislike " apparently don't have any soap!!!!!

  • Beautiful melody and rhythym. Singer sounds like Ben E King. How could this group only have had one hit?????

  • A great song thanks for posting one my favorites

  • Love my 60's songs...great one to dance to while you clean house.

  • Comment removed

  • Great music for us Baby Boomers!!!

  • Love this song and it was their only big hit, but I loved "Keep your mind on me" and "Little Lonely One" also.

  • @themoshmenace

Better to have Youtube than no Youtube. Be glad you don't live in China!!!

  • WOW! This sounds great! Thank you so much for posting! I have always loved this song because it's written so well. Plus the rhythm is great. Just a perfect song overall!!

  • Many thanks for this song....who can resist not singing along ?

  • My Kind of music

  • WOW!! I love this song. nice one.

  • God i love this song!

was just telling wife how i used to mix trhis up with Music Explosions "A Lil Bit Of Soul"

  • It reminds me the best years of my childhood. Thank you.

  • The cassette tape I had with this song on it broke yesterday :( But now I can listen to it whenever I want. So I thank you !

  • I remember hearing this song when i was 2--it IS A HAPPY SONG even though its lyrics were a little sad

  • At 1:47 it sends chills down my spine how emotional his voice is.

  • The vocals sound an awful lot like Ben E. King...

  • Fantastic tune despite Shawaddywaddy trying to butcher it in the 70's

  • Perhaps one of the most beautifull songs i have heard!!

  • Wow,my homeboys.

  • soap, soap....

  • One of my all time top 100 record i have the UK 45 on Top Rank and the b side is as good

  • I reckon its a great catchy tune, his voice just lovely. The Jamels rock!

  • old music is one of the best music played

  • I'll never lose the memory of your name in the night as I call through the lonely years.

  • This records cool , sounds like a group called The Delmonicos that recorded " There They Go " on AKU in 1961. ??????

  • First heard this song on a field trip to a White Sox game at Comiskey Park, 1961

  • This is not a happy song...

  • Nice track. De La Soul sampled this jawn back in the day.

    M.K.

  • I still have that 45! Loved that song as a child!

  • A great song, enjoy the video too, the magnificent Magnavox! Man that was a sweet Stereo. More fun than playing audio files, my kids have no idea how we used to listen!

  • @WFTL14 we had a magnavox too. beautiful stereo. played all these classics.

  • @naert1 YEAH AND THAT GRUNDIG MAJESTIC WAS NOT TO BAD EITHER AND AS A POOR IMMIGRANT 1958 IT WAS SOME FURNITURE IT TOOK UP A WHOLE WALL GOD BLESS DOC PETE 1968

  • ooh damn, thank you soooooo much for this one : ' )!!!

  • I'm surprised by ow much I like this song. It really just kind of speaks to me for whatever reason. Strange.

  • It is a happy song. Who can resist happy ?

  • @manhatin This is NOT a happy song??? It's about him losing his love...

  • @manhatin it has a happy sound so it would be a catchy hit but if you listen to the lyrics it is actually kind of sad. A girl left him and he will miss her as he goes through the lonely years...he'll get over it though he's young.

  • GREATNESS!

  • Loud applause for The Jarmels and Mr Sam Hui of Hong Kong ! Once again with all hands up clapping for both artists !

  • @xiuqin24 Sam Hui never did this song... it was the Fabulous Echoes who sang it in the 60s and was a smash hit...

  • back then i thot it was a little bit of soul.

  • Me too! (I also thought Etta James was saying "right past my soul over their heads" when really she sang "rice has been thrown over their heads"

  • The most Beautiful "Job ever on YOUTUBE.

THANKS keep up the good work!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, please once again, once more please, once again, thank you, thank you!!!

  • Chris Montez has a nice version of that

song, recorded in 1973. Was on a vinyl-LP.

    Please can anybody post that?

  • I know this kinda sounds silly coming from a guy but when I heard the beginning of this song and saw the turntable with the old cylinder that held the 45's I kinda started to weep with nostalgia cause I was kinda transported to my childhood. Thank you. I miss all this so much.

  • Love the clip and how you panned out from the 45 haha - When I was a child I remember my thoughts when I first saw the color design on the 45. It looked like soap to me and I believe the vinyl even had a soapy scent to it.. Regardless, I played that 45 and have been a Doo-wop fan ever since. Thanks for the post :)

  • What a tune! brilliant - sounds so fresh today!!

  • And the sun continues to shine.

  • without these guys no rolling stones etc.

  • I love you for putting this song up to share with the world. This song is so amazing.

  • A classic song.. kinda takes a little from the late '50's and blends in the sound of the early '60's. Thanks for posting.

  • To HunterSThompsonFan

/// Thank you for your service to our country. God bless you.

  • What a lovely way to express a relationship . How little did

we know in 1961 how these feelings

would effect each of us in the loss of

people in our lives, including but not

limited to our Mothers........a pain for

    most that never leaves.

  • A guy that I work with was in Southeast Asia on a navy ship when this song was popular. He told me about it. Pretty good. It'd be strange to hear this song in 'Nam.

  • Always LOVED this song. An old favorite from the good old days.

  • A golden oldie -- thanks Manhatin!

  • This sounds like it's on a CD! Mint condition 45, I see. =) Thanks for this! =]

  • Classic records should be heard as well as seen. Spin them suckers !

  • i got a bunch of 45's to post

  • 2lapompe, There are still people who sound like this out there, they're just hard to find .

  • i wish people could still sound that way

  • An old favorite of mine. Nice to hear it again.

  • Nothing like a great song being played on a Magnavox Stereo.

  • A killer song that is a classic.

  • Timeless--just great.

  • Put an old spin on it !

  • long live the 45!!! God I love it!!

  • Awesome record, it gives me the tingles everytime that harmony comes in the middle baby, like a woman coming!

  • lol

  • wow our high school football coach used to always listen to this song and I could never figure out the name of it. thought it said "a little bit of soul"

  • Sounds just like the Drifters. The lead singer has an amazing voice like Rudy Lewis of the "Up on the Roof and On Broadway" fame.

  • The Jarmels were one of the rare black groups on the Laurie label....and the label groomed them to sound just like the Drifters, who were racking up hit after hit with that latin sound...

  • Laurie Records also had the Chiffons and Gary "US" Bonds

  • excellent

  • Saw Huey Lewis and the News sing this acapella at a concert a few years ago

  • love this , especially when im riding in my 61 bonneville.

  • fresnel1956 , Really interesting to hear about the modifications you made to your Magnavox.

  • --And crediting the 1965 Magnavox. I bought the same model used in Jan 1990 and rebuilt it. I did add a Pickering AT-2 magnetic cart and slightly modified pre-amp, this gives much better sound and tracks perfectly at 2 gram w/no audible distortion. The only inherent prob with these old transistor consoles is the use of germanium transistors in the tone amp. They change with age and it becomes impossible to get exact tone balance left-to-right.

  • an absolute jewel and classic....it's up there with Be My Baby and the Drifters' classics.

  • Only number 12 on the US charts poof they didn't play it enough. What a wonderful song. Thanks for posted this Jewell!!!

  • nice turntable.

    good tune also.

  • amazing... ..

  • Lots of versions of this song, but this one is by far the best!

  • id say paul davis is. this was written by him. he wrote this song for the jarmels

  • Actually, it was written by Bert Berns for The Jarmels. Paul Davis was just one of the dudes who covered this after them.

  • So far superior than the emotionless kids making 'songs' today!

  • DE LA SOUL.

  • great song :)

  • OMG this song was my fav in the late 60s and certainly bring back many many sweet memories. Great to have it on YOUTUBE. Thanks again!

  • When I was going through my divorce, my son was 5 years old and used to sing this to me to make me smile. Damn silly kid. Any way, thanks for posting this.

  • Hey NTW, I too was just about the only WB to grove on SOUL R&B in the late fifties/early 60ts and I lived in W.L.A.

  • Great posting-their name is almost completely forgotten today-not so much the song.

  • i used to sing this song all the time.. i loved it and still do.. i was probably the only white boy in my town that knew this song lol

  • bassingal89 , Definetly the road to Happy Feet.

  • this is a very good rythm song to dance too love it

  • TaytaRedd , Yes, your grandfather played real music.Thank you so much for stopping by !

  • Yes!This is a GREAT song and the reason i can say so with honor is bcuz Paul is my grandfather. I am a music major in college and I thank my late grandfather for passing the music down to me. Thank You for posting what i consider real music.

  • i loved all these singers when i was growing up. be proud of him he and all the rest werevery talented

  • excellent

  • excellent

  • BigIronOnHipMan , Great comments, Good luck with Linda !

  • Manhatin, I meant to say thanks for your great Laurie post! But as I was watching the Jarmels 45 spin on the record player I got HYP ~ MO ~ TIZED!

  • I remember going to "MAKE-OUT" parties at thirteen back in 1963 and the lights would get turned way down loooow when the girls would put this song "A Little Bit Of Soap" on the record player. Then each girl would pick her slow dance partner. I always got to dance but never with the romance partner I REALLY wanted...Maybe at our High School 40 Year Reunion this October 2008 I will be asked by...Linda P who lives in NYC?

  • Maybe she'll be really glad to see you. After all, you're both "adults" now, right? Don't let her get away this time!

  • clamdraggin, As soon as I find the Silvertone console we had at the old homestead, I'll give you the Magnavox.

  • i remember watching that record spinning on the turntable yep...that one you got right there ...give me back my record! And my turntable too! lol...thanks for the great memory!!!!
