Man... all of those clips from 1980 brings back a lot of memories! I was a Redcoat that year and attended all of the games. Jacksonville, Auburn, and New Orleans were my favorite trips. Especially New Orleans! GO DAWGS!!
that was messed up, I was not done...anyway, baptized by him in 1970, and had the privledge of watching over his shoulder and sitting on his piano bench as a boy/young teen, watching him perform his magic. the only known version of Battle Hymm that I know of is on Joyful Jazz from 1969, you might be able to find it at a second hand store on vinyl until his children can get it out for his fans. Take care all!!!
Wow! That is so cool. I've admired his rendition of the Battle Hymn for as long as I can remember. Thanks for the info! I'll keep a lookout for a digital release, and buy it as soon as I find it.
To dtrainxc.....I saw a post from one of his daughters that the family is compiling the music and planning to make available digitally. That was from 2006. I must tell all those that are interested in Fr Tom....I was baptized by him in 197
When I lived in Atlanta, I was a devoted follower of Jazz Classics, and especially this intro song. Too bad you have to sit through clips of this awful team to hear the music. As if anyone at UGA can even spell 'Jazz.'
Westerdawg, while I do not see any typos, I do admit my grammer is potentially in-correct. Therefore, I am calling for a truce, an end to our beef if you will. While I may hate all things red and black (except nuns in a blender...am I right, people?), I do in fact love the song you are providing for all of us to hear. For that, I thank you PaulDawg...or shall I say, friend? Regards.
UGA had two of the thirty-two Rhodes Scholars this year. I don't know which school you went to, but unless you went to one of the Ivies yours probably hasn't done that in quite a while... if ever.
@mcantrellroberson ...J-A-Z-Z...there, I disproved your theory. Do you seriously get that much of a kick out of putting down people like that? ...jeez.
At least in terms of sports montages, this may well be the best marriage of music and image I've ever seen -- great timing on the edits and bringing in the Munson audio. The big dawgs at ESPN got nuthin' on you! That version of "Battle Hymn" is a classic; I've been listening to it on WABE every Saturday night at 9 p.m. when H. Johnson uses it to open his show. Go Dawgs!
I went to a little tiny Episcopal parochial elementary school in the San Fernando Valley in the 60s and 70s, and Father Vaughn was one of the teachers there...he would invite friends like Leroy Vinegar to come jam with him, and it was amazing! We had no idea who most of these people were, but looking back I remember Shelley Manne was one of them too. Tuition money well spent, Mom and Dad - thanks!

Does anyone know where I can find this song to download?? Please?? It's my favorite, and I've loved it since I was a kid.

Um, the gospel blues. I hate Georgia (no offense), but this version of the hymn rocks hard core.

mcantrellroberson,
Two typos while telling Georgia fans how to spell. Nice work.
