Miles better than the version by Florez. It's not an aria for a big voice like Calaf or Cavaradossi but it still needs thrust and trob. Massimo is very damn good. He has color and brilliance.
Concordo con andmat5. Regia da solito regista anglosaxon-todesco (vedi le Violette sulle scale mobili con spolverini in pelle nera). Bella la voce del tenorino
I love this opera; We're currently working on it at my college, but one question: why does Rinuccio never shut up? It's mind-numbing to the audience to have only one person in the opera singing anything that matters to the plot. "Oh, another Rinuccio aria? How nice... When does Zita sing one? Oh, never? Simone might have some worldly wisdom to share in a recit - Oh, no? Hmmmm...so it's just Rinuccio for most of the opera? Great. Ummmm...is it natural to bleed from the ears?"
Giordano's voice is very well trained, his high notes are effortless because he is using a lot of head voice when he hits them as opposed to singing them "del peto". Hopefully he will keep his excellent techinique for more substantial roles.
I am unfamiliar with this young tenor but this is my favorite youtube recording of this recit and aria. I must give him credit that his B in the recit is the best I've heard. It's hard to just pop up there like that.

I'm very sorry but i saw this live in the theater and he messed up all the timing in the aria. Not only that but my friend back in London saw the same performance in the cinema and he also noted the same major mistakes. This has been edited from the original live broadcast and he didn't sing it very well at all.
Massimo Giordano does the best Rinuccio I ever heard!!!! Beautiful voice, excellent pronunciation and perfect timing! This is my favorite aria of Gianni Schicchi
I tried to talk my daughter in to using this aria for her wedding recessional. She wouldn't bite. She's not an opera fan, or opera snob like most here.
SUCH a difficult aria to sing. So I have to give cudos to anyone who does:) There's an itunes recording of this with a tenor who is really fantastic to anyone who wants to pay the dollar to hear it
I was listening this performance on radio, brodcasting from the MET, WHEn MY RADIO GOT WRONG... What a pity... Anyway I am very happy to see this aria with Giordano.
the complete scene have many good things, but many times the singing is not working with the scene, and they sound very american way need more italian coaching
I have heard the melody sung more sweetly, but Giordano sings the text very effectively. Excellent work.
Looks like an ugly production, badly directed - the stage business is stupid and distracting. I wish these oh-so-clever stage directors would just let the artists SING. Does anyone really need for Rinuccio to point to a map so they know where the Arno is? or smooch a plaster statue of Giotto? This singer puts the text across - he doesn't need to be so burdened with stage props.
A lecture... that's an interesting idea, worth considering, so thank you for the suggestion. I think that concept might fit the words more than the music, but I'll listen again with your suggestion in mind.
You forget that these antics are also for people who are new to opera and for those who might not have a clue about geography. If opera is to survive with the next generation, we must do all that we can to be appealing. Also, I wish that opera people would drop the pretensions and communicate the music and drama in whatever capacity that will help draw an audience.
Signor Giordano's performance here probably could NOT be bettered today. A big, beautiful, ITALIAN sound, .... he sings with style and great commitment. He sounds like NO other tenor singing today ...his voice is both instantly recognizable AND memorable! I cannot wait for this entire performance to be released on DVD !!!

Grazie di Gianni Schicchi.Molto interessante. Ma esiste una registrazione di questa opera graziosa secondo la mia opinione molto migliore: DVD da Glyndebourne 2004. Nelle due e Massimo Giordano un eccellente Rinuccio.
In modern adaptations of Gianni Schicchi like this one it's really difficult to understand why these people are fighting for mules and a mill.

Problemi di fiato e per forza di impostazione alla maschera. Si debbe cantare più leggera... senza voce ingolata...

siamo alle solite grandi doti naturali e scarso troppo scarso studio della tecnica.

It isn't a concert, you know.
Plus an American audience probably needs the visuals.
Also it's a comment on the aria itself. Did it ever occur to you before that the aria sounded like a pedantic school lecture? :))
Chacun à son goût.
