He pounded into my head to live below your means & save every cent because you just don't know what is coming down the road. I have never owned a new car, never used an atm machine, use credit cards rarely.....I guess I am an oddball by todays standards
Altogether too many people pay altogether too much for their houses. My house cost $25k to build, but my son said it would sell for 425k in Los Angeles. When I see a house I consider the actual cost of construction in appraising its worth.
@dovad16 How big is your home, how come you just paid $25K? Are you a contractor. I am asking because I need to build a home, but I am scare to do it so. I will appreciate all your help and tips. Thank you :)

FYI... I am American. Born and raised.
Same here, I'm 44 and never owned a new car and have never had any credit card debt.
I recently quit my corporate job because I couldn't stand the rat-race anymore, but I'm not worried... I have years of savings to get me through.
People who live at or beyond their means are incredibly foolish.
