Haha! So cool to see man and man's best friend working together in perfect harmony. I take strange pleasure in watching both of you revel in your findings.
Great videos man, this is a beautiful lifestyle, and the dogs are so cool. The night time thing was pretty wild. Any suggestions where I might find info. on types of hardwood truffles in the mid west? I suspect there are loads of truffles in my area, just need to determine if any are edible. Keep bringn those great vids man. Peace.
@Earthwalker40, wish I had good news to give you on finding truffles in the Midwest, but unfortunately, I don't believe they grow in your neck of the woods-Only the Pacific Northwest contains native truffles that can be harvested in marketable quantity. Though, the Southeast US has a 'pecan' truffle and Texas has a 'desert' truffle, but they are only found in small quantities. Train your dog to find morels instead!
cute dog, deserves a great big new dog house filled with new toys n stuff for all the money it will bring in lol, no but honestly just enjoy your own harvest, we would love to see more in the future :)
My teachers friend once found a big pile of truffles in a compost box, outside on his yard. This happened in Finland so you can safely say that truffles are found in many places! :)
Wow that's really amazing to watch. Must be great when you find a big one. I think I'll train my cat to hunt for truffles in the Dublin Wicklow mountains.
That one truffle you got was retarded big. You can make so many different things with those fungii....oil, paste, tapenade, and, all kinds of other great stuff. Those things are VERY healthy for you, too.
@mycoexist too many questions? lol. that must mean you sell them at exhorbitant prices and eat a bit of it, you're on public land, and it's your side business but heck if you're going to tell anyone where you're at. lol.
@mycoexist hope you dont mind this question... did you train your dog yourself? Shes a real beauty and seems EXTREMELY smart... would love to know how you trained your dog... but I guess thats your secret... hehe.. Have fun hunting truffles!!!
@SaveTheWheat As is the case with many things in life, questions can't always be answered in one word, or three words. Why the flame? just enjoy life...
This is a great Video! Can you give any tips on how to train a dog to do this? We don't have truffles in our area, but we are interested in training our dog to help us in our mushroom finds. Thank you
I have no experience using a dog to find non-truffle mushrooms, but it CAN be done...according to what people have told me (ie. morels!). I'd start by playing hide and seek with your chosen (died?) mushroom. That's what I did with a fresh truffle. Who will be the first person to post a video of a dog harvested morel?! Come on world, you can do it!
@mycoexist my neighbors use there dog to find Japanese pine mushrooms , witch have a very peculiar smell , its kinda spicy almost , not fungusy at all, there worth alot of money. what do you do with them truffles?
Mr. Black just was talking about you being on the radio. I missed it but he pointed me in this direction. It's good to hear your voice. Shoot me an email sometime :)
Truffles grow (we also have white and brown truffles) in the foothills of the Cascade and Coastal mountain ranges, in heavily dominated young Doug fir trees. Thanks for your interest!
@HellsAngels0012 A truffle is the fruting body of a subterranean, ectomycorrhizal (grows in association with trees) fungi. Its taste is like......like.....no other. Every truffle smells different. Oregon black truffles smell of pineapple and chocolate.
I unfortunately have not tried any European truffles. Though, I really hope to one day taste and smell the french Perigord and the Alba truffles. The Oregon Black Truffle probably is very different in taste and smell-has hints of tropical fruit, mixed with a chacolate musky aroma.
What are truffles really? And how is it formed?? Jus seen some thing on how its made and now im curious!

Tossed it in the trash because it was messing with my lawn, is it worth anything? Who would even buy it?
