Providing protection against rifle rounds would make them too heavy and inflexible to be worn using current ballistic material. They are designed to stop pistol rounds such as the .45 and fragments and projectiles with similar ballistic characteristics.

It's sure effective against pistol rounds, but what about rifle chamberings?
Also, are those just measly 9mm PB rounds, or .45s?

If the hard knee/elbow cups were made of HARD ballistic material they'd stop rifle rounds. We got to START somewhere though.
