Great great I felt I was flying in a Lancaster great video I used to watch the flying off to do bombing in Germany i WAS A FRIEND OF NORMAN JACKSON VC THAT TRIED TO PUT A FIRE OUT ON RETURNING TO ENGLAND WW2 HE CLIMBED ONTO THE WING IF THAT WAS VERY BRAVE
WOW!!!! Makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up eh?
My late Father worked on the Merlins after the war for his national service in the RAF,i Took him to Biggin Hill for the airshow,it bought tears to his eyes when the BOB memorial flight went over.
Awesome again. I went to an airshow last year where there was a Battle of Britain memorial flypast of a Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire. I used the sound of the engines to estimate the speed (using the acoustic Doppler effect) and got a value of 172kts. I had no idea how reasonable this was until seeing the airspeed indicator at 06:12 in your video showing around 170kts!! Cool! Thanks for showing that! If you are interested: /watch?v=URete4auJBo (and for the theory /watch?v=rtsfSuPilCU )
hey i saw someone in the turret further back, was there someone riding in the tail turret seat? that would be so awesome. Love the Lancaster, my fave bomber of WW2. Merlin power!
its wierd because when ythou look at this bomber you never get board at looking at the lines or those RRmerlins and that little cockpit that says you are now part of a machine and your comfort is not important i could stare at this work of art for days!! (is it just me?)
@shannybos Not at all. I'm the same. I could continually admire the craftsmanship of these fantastic machines and listen to those harmonious Merlins all day. Experiences like these give you reason to live.

My uncle was a ball turret gunner on Liberators, but I am one Yank who would be in heaven to get to fly on a Lanc.

I am desperately wanting a picture of the Lancaster Bomber serial number PD 255...on the side of the plane is BQ T.
It was shot down on operations in Dusseldorf 2/11/1944, take off was at 16:16 but F.T.R.
My relative SGT V.C. Morgan and his crew were all killed, all but two are buried at Rheinburg Cemetary, Germany.
I need pictures of this plane from Sqdn 550.
Thank you.

really cool video !! the only way to beat the sound of a merlin is to have 4 of them running at the same time.
