The Maracana (Mario Filho) will be under 100 000 when renovated. Shame. Plus this was done before the Cowboys 'Stadiom' was completed and the capacity is debatable. Anyway, wish this still included Hampden Park which was licensed to hold 183 000 in the past although the record is around 149 000. A pale shadow of itself now at 52 000 unfortunately.

The American stadiums are so boring (well most are), they don't even have a roof or anything (because they're not really needed in most of the US). From an engineering and design standpoint, they're terrible stadiums to behold - they just have a high capacity. But especially that Michigan one, it's just a simply bowl dug into the ground, almost no structure. The rake of the single tier also looks nowhere near steep enough to give a good view from every seat. Literally awful stadium.

The number they give for any American stadium is the number of seats that the stadium has. That is how it is measured. Beaver Stadium has had attendance of over 110,000 at some games, but does have over 107,000 seats.
