This is the best how to over clock video I've seen. Not only did it help get the stupid floppy error fixed, but it showed how to OC you CPU, Memory step by step. Great Job my friend. It has helped me learn the whole process. Core 2 E8500 3.16 over clocked to 4.3 @50 c full load, 24/7 staple.
i have 780 i my phenom x3 8750 wont seem to overclock pass 2.8 ghz with the multiplier on 12x and 235 frequency, and auto or 1.321 voltage, i want 3ghz and my pc can handle it
@datboyquincy sounds like you have a gen 1 phenom its not going to oc much higher , push the voltage to 1.4 and see what it will do also add some volts to you nb
hi i oc my q9550 cpu to 3.6 and it shows this in this bios but in windows it does not show this nor does it show this on cpuz i have disable many features such as intel speedstepping but it still is not showing what have i done wrong?
Who cares how old the comment was? You didn't know how to open bios and you wanted to overclock. You probabally think that setting your vcore to 2.5v is the best way to ensure long life in your CPU. Idiot
my E8500 voltage never goes above 1.38v not matter what voltage i set it at. dunno why but its quite annoying.... cuz it wont let me oc it any more becuz of it.
wow, yes that counts..... but god damn, i know those exist but for you to go out and explain it like that is just weird.... i see abstinence in your future.....
I have qx9650 and thought(and read) that 1.39 was the highest SAFE voltage for these CPUs as any higher would cause severe damage to the processor . I have mine at 4gig on 1.32 volts even though it says 1.6 or something in BIOS!
Depending on your motherboard and bios settings you more than likely wont ever see the same voltage in the bios than you would see in windows. If you have speedstep and power saving options your cpu will automatically lower the clock and voltage. This is just a demonstration for how to OC. You can take the CPU as high as you can as long as you have enough cooling but youll eventually start to see degradation and cut the lifespan of your proccessor. THis was just a max OC test.
fucking intel p45 motherboard is hard to understand when it comes down to overclocking.... way different from nvidia.... i'd rather like nvidia mobo.....
too high or too little voltage will make your ssytem unstable and prone to crashes or overheating. If it's really bad then you might not even get to boot and might even have to reset your BIOS to be able to get your motherboard to post again.
I think thats why im so paranoid about doing it messing something up and not being able to recover I have a older processor to a amd 5000+ black edition shes an old girl now a days
Your system will always post unless you have bad settings. Usually its for going way over the requiered voltages. What I would do is just reset all your voltages to auto or manufacturer specs. Try reseting your BIOS by moving the jumper on the motherborad and go from there.
Is your system not posting at all? Does it go staright to FF? Or does it hang on a specific code as it goes through the post cycle?
nic vid :) hmm, if the voltages are wrong, and the bluescreen come, can the bluescreen crash the pc then?, or its just a warning ? :) and what happend if the memory voltage are wrong?
all the bluescreen of death is is showing you that something has gone wrong and tells u to go back into BIOS and change some settings it can also be caused by a failed program or even more detrementally it could be ur kernel failing
fair enough, normally people only do bench marks when their cpu is stable btw i was just saying those kind of voltages can take years off that cpu's life.
Im sorry but thats not true. Prime is to check for stability. For a 24/7 overclock. I guess i needed to explain this is just for finding a max clock for overclocking benchmarks. This not waht you want to do to try to find a 24/7 max clock. Keep in mind that i use these speeds for 3-4 min.
with enahanced halt state enabled the cpu multiplier can change automaticly from like x6 to x9 its better to have it disabled so your core clock speed doesnt keep changing
I have a evga 780i FTW with a q9400.. when i first put this together i had overclocked it to 3.4 and it was stable.. that lasted for about a week then it started to hang up then i got the blue screen of death.. so now everything is at stock speed and works just fine.. but if i try to OC it agian it just hang's up.. even the slight OC, it wont even go to 2.9. any help you may have for me would be great..
anyone who is thinking about overclocking...BE CAREFUL, make sure you have PLENTY of airflow, and overclocking is really for people who have like 1k for a new computer in case they fry it or fuck it up lol careful guys!
Psh its not that hard - All you have to do is up the voltages (a little at the time), restart and monitor the temps in the BIOS. If it goes too high - Maybe over 65, then just take the Mobos battery out and put it in - or if your mobo has it (like the rampage II extreme) press the Clear CMOS button
Dont Listen to this go out and do your research, Plenty of places out there to get info from thats more reliable than this.
45nm Cpu's should never have the FSB voltage raised to over 1.4v, Overvolting your memory, and not running any sort of a memtest doesnt ensure shit. always memtest and be very careful adding extra voltage to memory.
Extra cooling for MCP and SPP should be taken into consideration when going 1.45+v on spp and 1.6v on MCP.

Go to Extremesystems forums or Hardforums this is crap dont follow this. you will likely kill your hardware, or as the poster of the video would say "your computer stops booting" which is exactly what will happen if you follow this crap
Overvolting your ram from 1.8 to 1.85 is going to kill your hardware? rofl
OK grandma. Reboots are common with overclocking. There's no way to OC without getting a bsod or restart. Even a hard lock up. The only way to figure it out is to up the voltage and check your temps. Running memtest and prime everytime you up the FSB? Its pointless. What do you do? ask people for settings and then just use what they use? What are your settings at 4.5Ghz? o_O?
dude your BSOD is not from your CPU voltage. lower that, and raise your FSB voltage. also, to test the stability of your CPU OC run PRIME95 or IntelBurn. Vantage will not test for an OC stablility. This tutorial is horrible
Hey let me tell you this cool math equation with people who DONT have a Bios that give you a live measure of you Ghz from over clocking your FSB here is a cool equation I made this up myself but im sure it has been done before.
Q(Fsb)1066/4=FSB(266.5)*The Multiplier(9)=Ghz(2398.5)Move decimal point 3 space back it equals 2.3985 Round that up you finally have 2.4Ghz Thats my CPU an Intel Duo2 core (E6600)
I over clocked mine at 3.45Ghz Air cooled only!!!!
Read comment under this one from me first IT was too many letters had to do 2 comments" I been doing Middle one and should i test it for like 1 hour? then i know it will work for games? or is 1 hour not enough?

peace bro Also just order some very good new ddr2 ram from newegg. and V-raptor n new heatsink Im using zalman 9700 atm but Bought better one :) "
Really depends on alot of things. 1 hour isn't really enough. I would call something stable unless you can run it for a few hours or a few days.
OCing can cause degradation. An overclock that only required a certain voltage will start asking for more if you beat too much on it. Im not really sure what other changes you made and why its no longer stable but take a look at your temperatures and voltage. Id recomend making sure you're cool enough and then increasing the voltage slighty.
Hey man, I think ur very good! n Pretty good / smart :) Um, I been having overclock proplems! I nailed some high Overclocks but um! I ran prime 1hour! then i played some games n left comp on all day and freezed my screen n it happen few times during games n its just like.. starting to annoy me? My old overclock never had proplems like this n now that i try to go higher then 3.5Ghz even I'm getting errors on games n such! After I overclock My 780i q6600 witch prime95 test mode should I do?
Pay for someone to OC? With a decent dual core. E8400,8500,8600 you can OC to 4GHZ easy on air. Its pointless to go 100mhz at a time. Id jump straight into 4ghz as this can be pretty much be done on auto voltage. Heck, the BIOS will OC it for you. Just set the FSB and leave the rest on auto.I do recomend taking smaller steps once you start getting into higher voltages/temperatures/fsb to find the sweet spot, but its a waste of time to take an e8400,8500 QX9650 to 4GHz by going 100MHz at a time.
overclocking your pc at your own is a little bit dangerous if you don't know how to do it. just call a technical support and tell them to overclick it as much as they can so this is the safyest way , you may pay 49 $ but there is no matter
Seriously BAD idea for anyone to jump a gig when OC'ing. Do at high risk! Much safer to increase in increments of several 100MHz at a time and to adjust voltage accordingly.
I have a 2.53 GHz core 2 duo cpu.. What should I clock it to? I only have a stock intel cooler. But I have 2 gb PNY ram 800 MHz. Do you think I should mess with it? If not then make a video please. I have asus p5n-d motherboard.
When you change the multiplier and fsb the BIOS will tell you the actual CPU Mhz (speed)so you can adjust them to find the speed youre looking for. Youll know if you go too far because you wont be able to remain stable. At that point youd have to increase voltages to make up for the increased speed. Youll know if its too much/little voltage if you can/cant remain stable. Youll have to make sure you keep an eye on your temperatures as well.
omg thanks for fixing my problem with floppy.. just bought 790i ftw and my memory is stuck on 1067.. i changed voltages from 1.5 to 1.9(thats what it said on it) what should i do
Hey man nice video is there anyway u can help me overclock my q6600 to 3.2 ghz?If you go to my page I have a video of it that tells you everything I have in it.Hope you can help Thanks...
yea nvm i overclocked it myself. i gave it 1.6v and then i went to 2.2mhz.. runs a little faster now when playing games :) lets just hope it doesnt overheat. which it shouldn't :)
okay im not on the best computer ever i have windows xp 512 ram and my processor says this 1.8mhz~2.4mhz and is a pentium 4.. does the ~ symbol mean it can go to 2.4 or 2.4 is the maximum. ... do i need to even OC it or does it automatically do that when it needs to go up for a game or something? help is appreciated
When I tried to OC my PC, I got the blue screen, so I changed the voltage and blue screen again. I went to the bios changed the voltage and I did not get the blue screen; however, I got to black screen with safe mode etc. After that, I tried to go to the bios, my PC froze up on me, and I could do anything.
I only changed what you had had change in this video. Of course, I did put the same number
You need to reset your CMOS to get back to stock settings. It should be a jumper close to your CMOS battery but you can just remove the battery for about 5 min if you cant find it.
I hope youre not copying this exactly. This pertains only to the QX9650 under watercooling. If you have any other processor or different cooling this whill not work.
I have a question I have a memory that was bought with the PC (512mb) + I have a memory (1 gb) that wasn't bought with the PC so do I need to tuch the memory voltage???
P.S. Great vid whats the backround music love it!!
Well Put it on auto first... then after that youre gonna save your settings then the PC is going to reboot... and then after that you can lower your voltages if you want to... just lower it by one step.... dont lower it to much you wont get a good stability in your PC... hope this helps...
I dont see how this would work. You would need the same specs on both dimms to be able to get the timings and voltage to work. Dont know if youd even get it to boot without a BSOD. Ive never tried it though.
Great tutorial. Use this one instead of the one made by Megotrice. This is how overclocking should be done. All this information is available on 411overkill(dot)com for those interested in overclocking your processor/RAM/Video the right way. 5/5 for the tutorial and NICE monitor too! Let's hope people find your vid before they follow megotrice's instructions.

those volts were way too high! aparently anything over 1.4v on the cpu it can dramaticly shorten the life of your cpu.
also just because your pc doesnt bluescreen doesnt mean the cpu is stable! you need to run prime95 or intel burn test.

I have a 2.53 GHz core 2 duo cpu.. What should I clock it to? I only have a stock intel cooler. But I have 2 gb PNY ram 800 MHz. Do you think I should mess with it? If not then make a video please. I have asus p5n-d motherboard.

How do you know what numbers to set the multiplier to and fsb speed? How do you know when you are going to high with those and what's just right?
noobuntu 3 years ago
When you change the multiplier and fsb the BIOS will tell you the actual CPU Mhz (speed)so you can adjust them to find the speed youre looking for. Youll know if you go too far because you wont be able to remain stable. At that point youd have to increase voltages to make up for the increased speed. Youll know if its too much/little voltage if you can/cant remain stable. Youll have to make sure you keep an eye on your temperatures as well.

:D u just change it to "halt all, but diskette" that just tells the computer to stop the POST if anything is wrong

I need your help or anyone here

Cant get back into BIOS?
You need to reset your CMOS to get back to stock settings. It should be a jumper close to your CMOS battery but you can just remove the battery for about 5 min if you cant find it.
I hope youre not copying this exactly. This pertains only to the QX9650 under watercooling. If you have any other processor or different cooling this whill not work.
What does your pc look like? specs?

I have a question I have a memory that was bought with the PC (512mb) + I have a memory (1 gb) that wasn't bought with the PC so do I need to tuch the memory voltage???
P.S. Great vid whats the backround music love it!!
Lazzlo000 3 years ago
Well Put it on auto first... then after that youre gonna save your settings then the PC is going to reboot... and then after that you can lower your voltages if you want to... just lower it by one step.... dont lower it to much you wont get a good stability in your PC... hope this helps...
grove005 3 years ago
I dont see how this would work. You would need the same specs on both dimms to be able to get the timings and voltage to work. Dont know if youd even get it to boot without a BSOD. Ive never tried it though.

which cpu fan do you juse?
cantthinkofenything 3 years ago
Thats a bEAST OC... 4.5GHZ are you CRAZY.... I bet YOUR CPU RUNS like a hot LAVA....
grove005 3 years ago
This isn't good for 24/7 usage because the voltage will fry your cpu.

How much can the 9650 take it is a 45nm right ain't the thermal spec like 1.375v on so? Even on water and such 1.6v is harsh on a 65nm CPU.
I love overclocking.
RickArter 3 years ago
Some guys in the forums are giving these things 1.8v++
Im thinking Ill only be able to hit 4.7GHZ before the temps catch up so Ill wait untill I have my cards watercooled to try and get a decent score.
Hopefully I get my new case this weekend so we can get things going.
