  • I don't trust Google anymore. They're going to scam us all I just know it.

  • Also, this guy is an idiot.

  • I have unsubscribed with every partner who uses pre-roll ads.

  • Google is one of the few things in the world that I hate -- yes, I mean it when I use the word HATE here. It has polluted the once-pleasant-looking YouTube with ugly ads to the point of saturation, severely downgrading everyone's experience of it. . And the pre-rolls! That is the most insidious form of web advertising. When one comes on I leap into action by turning the sound off and switching to another tab to do something interesting in the meantime.

  • For YouTube, funny and entertaining ads would certainly be more welcomed. Or for some you can include ads directly in the video during its creation....product placement, etc.

  • I would like to have a preroll ad on one of my videos? How do I go about setting a prerol ad up on my channel site. Some of my videos already have only banner ads?

  • @Ahhapictures I believe that only YouTube Partners have the ability to set up pre-roll advertising, so if you have a video or two that got accepted you won't have the option to add it. Seems kind of silly

  • @vidiseo Thanks for the response.

  • That new 30 second toyota ad is taking over every video i see!

What ad is your least favorite?

  • @zombiesocks99 I haven't been a big fan of ANY YouTube pre-roll ads so far. When it comes to video advertising I like Hulu's choose your own ad model the best. If I'm going to be forced to watch an ad it might as well be relevant. How about you?

  • @vidiseo The one i would like to see the most out of ALL the pre-roll ads would be that halo reach ad not only is it my favorite game, it is only about 10-15 seconds long!

But sadly, it was only on untill sept 14 (game release) :(

  • nice, thoughtful video

  • just leave a comment 0:01 for people to click if an ad comes up

  • I hope this doesn't mean that now almost all the vidoes on youtube will begin to have ads, even yif i can skip them it would be so anoying.

  • @drguets Totally agree.

  • @drguets Thats whats happening. The thing is, we have to make money doing these videos. I am sure you watch TV and there are a lot of ads there.

  • all you have to do is refresh the page and it thinks youve watched it simple:)

  • being a partner I dread the thought of pre-roll ad's, nothing turns me off more than a pre roll.

we all know the most important part of the video on the tube is the first 10 seconds, why have it handed over to advertisers.

  • very good point. I wouldn't want to run pre-roll advertisements if I was trying to grow my audience as a YouTube partner either.

  • Just like the other user stated, I also don't watch a second of pre-roll ads. If a YouTube video has a pre-roll ad I automatically give it a 1-star rating and click Back to the previous page.

Off subject, I also feel I shouldn't have to pay a monthly bill of $50 to the cable company for basic cable when about 50% of the time a commercial is airing.

I would love to cancel my cable bill but the kids are addicted to Nickelodeon/Cartoon Network. *sigh*

  • I will never watch a single second of pre roll or embedded advertising on YouTube. I don't care if its funny or targeted at my demographic etc... I fucking HATE ads

I watch clips online to streamline my experience watching video content. Cut away all the bullshit filler material and just get me those interesting 20 seconds. fuck ads.

  • I think most people feel the same way, but I doubt that YouTube will incorporate pre-roll ads on short form content since the ad could potentially be longer than the clip you are trying to watch.

I imagine that pre-roll ads will be used mainly for long form content like movies and television shows.

  • Check out some of the vids on my channel, where I already deploy in-video advertising to generate traffic to my own site.

  • Nice vid, Matt. Thanks.

Instead of pre-rolls, branded channel owners should deploy overlay ads on their own content. This is possible through promoted videos.

That way, they can make the advertising relevant to the video they are showing. The video will deliver a timeless message, while the overlay can be adjusted according to current offers.

Perhaps YouTube should also be offering pre-roll and companion ads (great combo, as you suggested) to branded channel owners for their own content...

  • I'm a big fan of YouTube's call to action overlays as well and have seen a pretty amazing click through rate (compared to paid search averages).

It would be a nice feature if YouTube allowed brands to place their own pre-roll/companion ads on their content.

Perhaps they could offer that as an additional feature for promoted videos that achieve a certain quality score (based on clickthrough, view percentage, ratings, and comments). Just a thought.

Appreciate the ideas and thanks for watching!
