  • what year and lexus model is this??? just curious

  • @vwmetal66 don't remember exactly, but around a 97 es 300

  • @scottykilmer ok yea because my girlfriend has a 96 camery and the lower control arm bushing is no good on both sides. The control arm looks the same and so does the bushing. My question is, does the bushing itself come out easy?? They sell the bushing by itself at autozone.

  • @vwmetal66 NO, they are hell to press in and out, requiring a machine press and special tools.

  • @scottykilmer ok thank you very much. I just found out how much it cost to replace the bushing and its ridiculous how much it cost. Its cheaper if i just buy the whole control arm and replace that myself. Seems simple enough and it will end up being cheaper

  • This is ozzy after psychiatric treatment.

  • Scotty great videos and seeing as how I own a saab i do alot of maintanence myself lol My lower control arms are bad, They are look similar to the ones you put on in this video, I am told by a mechanic each side requires 5 hours of maintanence. Do you think I can do this myself? and does it really take 5 hours? I do most of my own work and you made this look pretty easy..

  • ......and get an alignment...or at least checked.

  • Thank you so much ,I kind of had an idea how to do it ,but this helped a lot

  • is it the same process for a 90 Nissan 300zx?? my steering shakes when i brake, how can you tell the difference between warped rotors and a bad lower control arm?

  • @dudewtf1776 you pullon the arm and see if it has play, and the rotors you measure with a micrometer to see if it's thicker and thinner in different spots

  • @scottykilmer thanks alot! your videos are awesome by the way! very very helpful!

  • Hey, I'm considering picking up a 95 Honda Civic but it "needs a control arm bushing on the passenger's side" and I was wondering, do you know how much that would cost?

  • @JPihl749 depends whether you do it or pay a mechanic. Call an aftermarket store like bap geon to price the arm and bushing assembly for that price. Mechanics are expensive, so call around for a price from them if you don't want to tackle it.

  • is it the same proccess for a 2001 audi a4?

  • @miadadecountyzoe same basic process, but being an Audi, ten times harder with suspension arms everywhere that have to be removed to get it off

  • I took my car for an alignment the tech told me that my 300zx rack pinion assembly -inner tie road axels where wasted.. How much do these usually run for?

  • @CalikingZX call around, they don't cost very much. It's the labor that's money, to call around for quotes on that at shops if you don't want to try it.

  • I am currently replacing a both front lower control arms on my Hyundai Santa Fe. I did the passenger side but the pinch bolt on the driver side is most troublesome to remove. Went through a can of WD 40 can and my ball and peen hammer broke on it. The only thing I haven't tried is a propane torch to loosen the knuckle. any thoughts?

  • @paingain100 Yea, I use an oxygen acetylene torch myself.

  • @scottykilmer Finally got it off. I learned a technique where you use an extension socket as a stake to drive the bolt through. It worked thanx again

  • Scotty, your videos are a pleasure to watch, it's great to see quality videos like these on youtube!!!!

  • hey scotty you should buy foreign cars, excluding japanese/korean cars. they really are so much more awesome than the average american made car

  • i sure like your stuff, but why all the loud noise??????????

  • @saginaw60 because I'm half deaf and I like it.

  • scotties got the best auto how to vids on the internet hands down!

  • I can't believe a few years old luxory car like lexus would have a bad control arm bushings already. wow

  • @tiberianexcalibur

it happens it just depends on how the vehicle is driven, or it could have a manufacturing defect.

  • Hey Scotty, I just moved here to Houston and my inner CV joint separated while going down the street about 30 mph in my 94 escort gt. Aside from said axle, after removing the hub everything seems fine and undamaged besides a ball joint (I assume that side was parked next to a ditch that flooded, wheel bearings were bad on just that side and were replaced). Any tips on the removal/install process of the inner CV joint from the tranny case? The manual says to remove the crossmember?

  • @flyboyofglam yea, remove it, that's easiest. And fix the ball joint as that could have pulled the axle apart from too much movement. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Hello scotty I could really use your opinion and I Need help since its Christmas I need my car back on the roads. Let me make this short. Just 3 weeks ago my 1999 Plymouth Breeze starting making this grinding noise as I turned the wheel all the way right, to make a complete turn, Well it got worse by the week,Noise got worse and started to do so even when I turned left, so I just parked it! And went to see a mechanic who said I needed hub bearings for both front tires....to be con.

  • @Helpfixmycarasap yes, that will do it, but so will worn cv axles. Get a second opinion, and if it's bearings, watch my video "changing wheel bearings in your car" to see how it's done. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Its not the wheel bearings I got them replaced so I'm guessing it could be the lower control arm or the cv axle thanks so much btw!

  • @scottykilmer The shop wanted to charge me like 480 said a 100 for each. So I decided to buy the parts online took them back to the shop they replaced them and, They told me that its now the Lower control arm cause it still makes that horrible noise its the same noise. Take note when the noise first occurred I can tell it sounded like it was comming from the front right tire, It doesnt the steering wheel just makes the noise, Can I send you my youtube videos Iv'e made? HELP!!

  • Hey scotty, What do you do with the old parts?

  • @13FravelJ bums take them away and recycle the metal. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Have you ever taken the metal to a junk yard to get some money out of them?

  • @13FravelJ no, I let the bums do that, give them something to do. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer So its a win win situation for you, your customers, and the bums.

  • Hey scotty, in another video you talk about steering shake due to warped rotors. How can you tell if its a warped rotor vs a bad bushing? They both seem to cause the same problem when you step on the brakes.

  • hi scotty,my nissan pulsar has a small crack on the front lower control arm which the dealer won't fix under warranty because it hasn't failed yet. How dangerous is this and should i take it further?

how dangerous is this and should i take it further?

  • Hey Scottie, repair shop said I need to change the passenger side lower control arm but is this an easy thing for my to do or should I take it to a mechanic. 2002 Mazda MPV lx.

  • Hey Scottie, repair shop said I need to change the passenger side lower control arm but is this an easy thing for my to do or should I take it to a mechanic. Thx.

  • Hey Scottie, my 350z has been tramlining really bad recently. I know I need to replace one of my Uppercontrol Arms, can this be the reason for tramlining? Maybe bushings need replacement?

  • Scotty, you da man

  • Hi Scotty... When I remove air filter on my VW there is some sticky liquid under the filter and it smells like gasoline, is that normal and what could it be? Thanks

  • @simeunovicm Not normal at all, it means your engine is starting to have "blow bye" and throw that stuff into the air filter. See it all the time in Vws as they age. Scotty

  • Hi Scotty, Have a VW that makes a knocking/clunk noise when going over speed bumps. Is this a suspension problem? Cheers

  • @prisonhair might be sway bar links, my car was doing that over every bump.

  • Hi scotty Have a honda element need to replace lower control arm would like to know best way to snap ball joint ? P.S if using fork how can you avoid ripping the rubber thanks very much Appreciate All your videos and your huge efforts thanks Pete

  • @playone4me You can't avoid ripping the boot. You need a special press like I use to press it off rather than whack it off. You whack em off when you're changing the joint anyway. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Yes, but tons of things are in there. Start bychecking the struts first. Scotty

  • can you do a video about carburetors?

  • @outdoorsman310 No cars use them anymore, so I doubt I'll make any as I make em as I work on actual cars. Scotty

  • Hi Scotty... My Kia Sedona is having problem with steering, it's too stiff when turning. Google told me that I'm having problem with U-Joint and I should replace or atleast lubricate it.

Do you know how can I recognize it and lubricate it?

  • @MrBj2020 No , they don't need lubricating. A binding power steeringt is often a worn pump, or a clogged up and worn power steering rack. Watch my video "how to fix binding power steering" and try that cleaning method. Scotty

  • what was the cost of the controle arm?????????????good video,u can buy the bushings for most other toyotas, so u have to buy the complete arm for the lexus,?????

  • @Liamautomechanic 350 smackers, you can't buy the bushings. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer 350 dollar, thats 3 nights drinking money, thats expensive, for a controle arm, liam.

  • You make these jobs look way too easy

  • wouu i use to assemble those in a car assemble factory. man they are some HEAVY METAL GOING ON! cheers scotty :)

  • thanks scotty kilmer this came at the right time im going to be doing this in the next week or so.

  • Does a car needs aligment after changed both lower control arms?

  • I drive my truck Nissan 1995. After i started engine, it is smooth. I drive at 60 MPH then it got vibration. I know it is not brake, axis and Manuel Transmission problem, because they're good. Do you know what cause my truck to vibration at 60 MPH?

  • @Maul9999 check the universal joint on the drive shaft??

  • @Liamautomechanic No, i don't think so. If it was joint problem then i would hear it loudest clap metal. I found out that brake problem. It is pretty burn out.

  • @Maul9999 thats not so bad then, a mechanic is always learning, brake problem, you found the fault,

  • @Liamautomechanic Do you mean it is my fault or is it "faulty"? Engine is my Second language btw. I don't think look good. Rotor disc have brutal black circle too. It look like former owner didn't replace for long time.

  • @Liamautomechanic To be clear. "Fault" is like "it is your fault!" or fault can be mean for earthquake. "Faulty" is like motherboard faulty and power supply faulty.

  • @Liamautomechanic ARRGGGH STUPID KEYBOARD! I mean English is my second language.

  • scotty, thats a big fan, i bet its hot!

  • What if my rear wheels are wiggling like in your video?

  • I have a 91 LS400 with 289K on the clock. How common is it for either the upper or lower control arms to go bad on this model?

  • That is an excellent design, props to Toyota. No pickle fork or nothing needed. Thanks for the video! Now to test my Taurus, wonder if that's the cause of the knocking up front.

  • was that part aftermarket or from the dealer? i am getting ready to do this on my honda pilot. great job as always.

  • scotty what kind of tools do you use?

  • scotty u juz make everything seems so simple

  • Is it that easy for a 90's E36 BMW 3 Series?

  • @wendileona No, nothing is easy on a BMW. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer all kinds of tools, whatever is decent and easy to purchase. And if they have a lifetime guarantee, who cares, get a new free one if it breaks. Scotty

  • @wendileona I've changed the lower control arm on a 1993 325i, it's not difficult if you buy an entire pre-assembled control arm. You need to unbolt the lollipop at the rear end of the arm, and separate two ball joints (inner and outer). Please message me if you need more details.

  • Hey Scotty, quick question. I have a 94 Nissan sentra 4 door automatic. I notice that every time I drive my car in the morning, it's slow to accelerate. It only does it in the morning because I've had the car wait a while to stay cool to see if it's something up with the temperature. Have any idea where I can look and see where I can likely fix the problem?

  • @albinomexi Try cleaning the fuel injectors first AFTER changing the fuel filter. That often helps. Scotty

  • is it the same for a 2000 lincoln navigator

  • @BanditV8racer similar process, but a bit more work on the lincoln. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer THANK YOU SIR MY EVERYDAY BE A BEST DAY AND GOD BLESSES....LOVE UR SHOWS

  • scott my car burn the oil engine and every 1500 miles i take it to shop to refuel the oil ??

  • @kwtblack2 Cars burn oil because either the oil valve seals are worn, or the engine piston rings are worn. Big money any way you look at it. Oil is cheap. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer they told me change the oil for 5000 miles but i refuel every 1500 miles and engine power is kind low

  • Scotty Kilmer for President 2012!

  • This is amazing I just Did that yesterday except one of the control was under the transmission so I had to lower the body frame But as always great video Scotty

  • Hey Scotty im going to take Auto mechanics next school year and i have a feeling your vids are going to help alot im think

    Easy +A

  • Nice job, Scotty. I'm not surprised about the remark from hyperfish89. Toyota define their Lexus as a luxury vehicle, and they raise the price for parts accordingly. Disappointing. I found the same thing when I looked for a block heater on my Lexus. Unfortunately, it takes some effort to be sure you're getting exactly the same part.

  • @spelunkerd tis true, tis true. That's why I drive toyotas, same cars, lower prices and less complex designs. Scotty

  • great vids keep it up now i dont have to take it to the shop to get it fixed i can do it myself woot i can save a lot of money now thanks scotty woo

  • You my sir are THE MAN.

  • hot weather over there!!

  • Scotty, you are funny as hell with all those grunts

  • You tested by pulling side to side. Isn't there a test that you pull top to bottom? If so, what is that for? Maybe I just believe I remember hearing about a test like that. I can't remember any of the detail though. I blame it on old age.

  • @mkcraghead yes, you can pull all different ways for different patterns of wear. this is just one test for a part that was worn out. Scotty

  • @mkcraghead if you hear clunkiing top to bottum then thats usually upper or lower ball joints, side to side is usually tie rods, or in this case lower control arm....

  • @thecolonel609 Thanks. I knew I had heard something like that in the past. I just couldn't remember the details.

  • Scotty right to the point just as I like it well done mate :-)

  • Really like your videos and add them to my Favorites. Thanks for sharing.Tec

  • great video, looks hot there in Texas!

  • What would make a car make a grunting sound from the rear when turning left.

I thought maybe a control arm bushing.

    Thanks and great video!

  • @golfaholic4884 I think he does it with his mind....like a Jedi Mechanic!

  • @nightmathzombieethan that's right, machines fear me and offer little resistance. Scotty

  • Congratulations on over 10,000 subscribers Scotty!!!

  • that screwdriver looks like a sword!

  • this in minutes!!! OMG, it takes about at least an hour for me.

  • 1:12 "Just stick it on the bolt and pull like mad." you pushed! lol :D

  • That "ugghh!" sound you make after removing any bolt cracks me up, haha! Love the videos, Scotty!

  • whats with the 'industrial purge system' ad at the start of the vid?

  • @chopywatersofmantuki If everyone watching my videos paid me a buck, I'd be a multimillionaire. but , that's not going to happen, so ads help pay the bills. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer there are ads on youtube?

  • I think my car has the same problem...What will happen will I don't fix it? Would it be dangerous?

  • @xdivisionx eventually it would fall off, but that would take quite some time. scotty

  • @xdivisionx increased tire wear

  • Did anyone get a weird ad at the beginning of this video?

  • You can use 98' camry lower control arms on the car your working on, i did that with my rx300. There much cheaper and the same exact part.

  • exactly there's no point in buying a lexus lol

  • @omid11 not true... many reasons to buy a lexus, but not worth my time to explain them to you!

  • in japan there is no lexus now let me rephrase my earlier comment there's no need to buy a front wheel drive lexus

  • nevermind there is? O_o

  • 1 person doesn't like you using such a big screw driver on a Lexus. LOL!

  • Scotty is the man - rocking the free world is his plan. Thanks Scotty I have all of your vids on video in my garage.

  • thanks for helping out scott! :D

  • he looks hot

  • When u think of it it's quite easy to do really!

  • nice,i have to change the ball joint on my mazda mpv its the whole control arm together like this

  • Keep up the good work
