Conan spent 17 years at Late Night, paying his dues and then some. He didn't "take" Leno's show. It was offered, and he accepted. Those used to Leno obviously didn't jump ship to Conan, which explains the ratings lull; but Conan would have won his audience, just as he did at 12:30. Leno is a complete twit who is not funny. Conan rules.

The real crooks here are NBC, not Conan or Jay. While Jay could've handled this situation better, he was not the perpetrator and doesn't deserve to be treated like a villain no matter how unfunny people might find him to be.

This is what happens when TV focuses so much on ratings and nothing else. Both Jay's new show and Conan's Tonight Show could've built up steam in time, but NBC was too impatient because the numbers were the only thing that became important.

Im sorry, I love Conan, I think he's hilarious, but it's perfectly understandable why the show was given back to Jay Leno. Conan had much much worse ratings than Jay Leno whenever it wasn't his first or his last episode on the show. Jay had a faithful audience that gave him steady ratings. Leno blows but Conan is hardly an angel here. Dude got a nice multimillion dollar severance package before embarking on a second career as professional victim before taking on the show nobody watches on TBS. He always struck me as a kind of creepy, hostile guy underneath it all himself.

But Conan writes a large portion of the skits to his show while Leno has never been a skit writer. He's a stand up comedian that's all he has experience doing. Conan has experience as a writer for Saturday night live and the simpsons, which isn't just joke after joke, it's actual skits and physical comedy.

When he moved from New York to LA he made NBC pay for all the moving expenses for his entire staff, including expenses incurred from finding places to live. Jay Leno left the late show, so NBC moved Conan O'Brian from the late, late show to the late show and replaced O'Brian with Jimmy Falon. Leno decided to return to the late show, so he took his old position back from O'Brian. Falon had O'Brian's old job, so O'Brian had nowhere to go. This whole thing caused animosity between O'Brian and Leno, when they really should've been blaming Falon, because Falon wouldn't return to SNL.
