Yeh, it's important for people to own their sexuality. You have to balance things though, or you end up being sexually repressed, which is just another form of external control. Betty Boop is a pretty good example. Internally she is comfortable and expressive of her sexuality, but if an external force attempts to exploit or dominate her, she keeps control. As in all, things, balance is key.

That's kind of how it was back then. A lot of 1920-1940 cartoons featured surrealist characteristics. The older Felix the Cat episodes and Betty Boop both have this.
