This may be a dumb question, but are the voices always done before the animation? Not just for Robot Chicken, but everything else also. I always thought that the animation was done before the voice.
@TheOneBearded if I had to say, I think usually the voices are done after animation like traditional Disney movies for instance. But in this case, I think with the pace of the show, since the episodes are done quick, they can do the voices and animate from the script for the stop motion since it takes so long just for a few seconds that way. In movies, they do the animation first and I think actors use that visual to portray the characters
@TheOneBearded and just another thing I thought of (i'm studying music production and audio) the thing bout it is, if something doesn't quite sync up after the animation, they can always do ADR to re-record the lines better in the studio again and get the quality and presentation they'd like for the final cut. Some movies you can hear horrible mixes for ADR if ya listen, usually in scenes where the characters aren't shown
@TheOneBearded These days people usually record voices BEFORE they do animation. I know for a fact that Family Guy (another show Seth works on) does it and that Simpsons used to do animation before voice acting, but changed it after couple of seasons. It's easier that way - especially with comedy where there's a huge potential for an awesome improvisation.

it amazes me how much work goes in to a skit that is only several seconds long
