  • That's adorable!

  • Is it the father at the near??

    He's so lazy, huh?! xD

    What a nice family! =)

  • , You guys fucking disgust me.

You shouldnt keep fucking snakes as pets. Fucking retards.

  • Now that I look closer, that other one looks like a female having birthing contractions.

    Way to go.

How many are you going to sell as snake food?

  • Nope, he's a male. (How many rats do you have?)

Not selling any, as I have plenty of snakes to feed around here! (*GASP!*)

(For those who are just reading the witty banter here, yes, I DO euthanize them humanely with CO2 first.)

We also raise our own chickens for OUR food.

Tell me, have you ever been to a feed lot where they finish raising the cattle for your steak? Ever been to a poultry processing plant? Try looking up videos for that!

    Oh, and take care!

  • Nevermind...just saw your "channel" and realized that you're like 12 yrs old or something.

I'll excuse you for your ignorance...this time.

  • @ckurtz74

    12 years old...lol. :)

  • @ckurtz74

    I have 15 adult rats.

And yes, I have seen the videos and whatnot for the meat plants.

    I love my hamburgers. :3

My main point is, even if you're raising them as feeder rats, you should separate the female from the male until the last litter is already used up.

More rats are produced when the female isn't using up her resources for an unborn litter and for a born litter.

Perhaps having more than one female, two or three perhaps? That way you get the amount you need with efficiency.

  • Normally, I keep them n a 1.2 ratio. The big guy n there, "Monster" is my 2-yr-old's pet, but since rats don't do well singly, I gave him a g/f (which also benefits the snakes with food.) Putting the male in & out is the worst thing you can do...causes stress on the female (not to mention, the male would b lonely for 3.5 weeks/mo). I give them a high-quality feed that I mix up myself, so she's not strained at all. All the rats (including the breeder girls) r all fat & happy & live a long time.

  • Maybe I'll post a vid of my setup sometime and you can see how "efficient" it is.

  • That cage is way too small for those babies AND two adult rats.

And, the walls seem really, really dirty or muggy.

An aquarium is only suggested for pups before they get their fur to keep drafts out. That tank does not have good enough ventilation for them.

And is that on a shelf?

What is this, a game for you?

  • Wow, u must be a genius!

This pair's my daughter's pets & get out quite a bit to play, so have plenty of room when they r resting. The walls r cloudy because they tend to lick them or themselves and then lay against them. Doesn't matter how often I clean, it will still look that way. The tank has a screen lid and plenty of airflow (it's not a shelf, but an aquarium stand. I don't see that that matters anyway) Not a game, just fun. What sort of animals do u raise that u have so much knowledge?

  • Uh...for one, if those are pine or cedar, it's very harmful to a rat's respiratory tract and can cause illness.

Two, if that's a male in the cage, you're going to end up with a lot of rats, fast.

Female rats go into heat 1-38 hours after birth. A pregnant rat nursing at the same time takes a huge toll on the female's health, and will produce smaller, sicker babies.

  • For one, they are low-dust pine shavings. We also raise hairless rats on these and have not had any problems...thanks for the concern.

Two, yes, that's a male, and I have been raising rats for more than 20 years, so I like to think I know a bit about how they breed by now. I have females that are going on two years old now that are still giving me litters of 15+, so I must either be doing something right, or I'm very lucky/blessed.

    Thanks again for the concern.

  • @ckurtz74 Youtube .... the ONLY place I've ever witness elementary/middle schoolers thinking they have PhDs in something other than the monsters under their beds. :D
