Really? And where did I say that? You assume much. Fact is, I've trained in Xingyiquan for about 5 years now (besides having trained in other combat-oriented martial arts for over 30 years) and I'm an honorary member of the Xingyiquan Specialty Group of the Zhejiang Wushu Association. Aside from having been very successful in street fights, I've also won several Xingyiquan (and Taijiquan) competitions in China and the USA. But you are nobody I need to justify myself to, so this exchange is over.
Undoubtedly impressive credentials. However, I am not sure you realize that you are criticizing Hung YiXiang, of Taiwan's Hung brothers fame, in this video. He may not give it all in this video (but I for one would not dare bet what he gives), but your comment might put you in a hard to defend position...
I can only go by what I see and this clip doesn't look much different than many other clips of Taiwanese martial artists from the same era that I've seen. As I mentioned in an early post, the old guy at the end is very good, but the others are not very impressive. I've seen 95 year old men on the China mainland that have more spirit than the others in this video. In another post, I made reference to some other Xingyi videos on youtube that are much better. See for yourself.
I don't know who is who in this clip, but search for "Xing Yi Quan ( Hsing-I, 河北形意拳 ) 5 Elements and Linking form" on youtube. This is proper Xingyiquan, in both power and spirit. There are plenty of fine Xingyiquan practitioners of equal skill on the mainland, especially in Shanghai.
taijiguy, you should stick to taiji. You are impressed with wushu jumping and flailing yet you don't seem to understand that Xing Yi contains very heavy, methodical and smooth movements. The ones that are actually useful for fighting. Unlike wushu acrobatics, which are best for performance. Please spend some time actually training Xing Yi before you give such ignorant comments. I hate to even imagine what you consider good taiji...
Ten Years ago I began posting inquiries to martial art groups on-line to see if any of Robert Smith's movies of the Taiwanese masters had been transferred to video. It's good to see some of now being posted. He must have hundreds of films from his CIA assignment of 1959-62. Hope more will be forthcoming to view.
These are not any of Bob's collection that I ever saw, I am not aware that any of his movies are out unless he released them.[like for that TV special a few years ago.] He used to show some of them about once a year to his students.
If you will read the comments and descriptions you will note that these were not from Mr. Smith - I filmed them 30 years ago in Taipei. The playlist posted with the videos is correct.
where can i get this music?

Thank you for posting this video. For those who don't know....The large gentleman was Hung I-Hsiang, a true Xingyi master.

The old guy at the end has good gongfu. The others are midiocre at best. The xingyiquan is very weak in both power and spirit.

Isn't it Hung I-hsiang who is demonstrating the Hsingi? Wasn't he one of the best at Hsingi?
