Lavender Town from the first Pokemon games scared the fuck out of my when I was younger. I still have nightmares about that damn ghost and THE MUSIC!!!! THAT FUCKING MUSIC was so creepy that rumours spread about people killing themselves after listening to it. And the scariest thing of all: It wasn't intentional, it was meant to be a kids game but they ended up making the scariest thing EVER!!! (Also, though unrelated, I am certain that Hypno is a paedophile)

I got so freaked out when i first saw the daddy save me tape in silent hill but the one in the hotel in silent hill 2 was even more wacked and just plain creepy. I think theres meant to be one that was cut from the game because the sounds were too disturbing.

WOW....i think Dead Space is the scariest..for people say Dead Space is not scary you should:

Try to play it first!

Try not to adjust brightness to brighter...

Try play on hard.

And try to look around every place in Dead Space(dont just go straight to point)

Try play it with plasma cutter only if dare!

I even beat Dead space, it is fucking freaky I tell you that. But wont ever be a subliminal, and horrifying as any of the silent hill series :(. Especially fucking silent hill 4, ugh.

I realize it's not a horror game but the dreams in Max Payne 1 always freaked me out a bit, especially the blood trails with the baby crying in the background (though if you took too long going through it got old). And the lead up to the Lupino fight, where he's babbling about all the demons and shit. And Address Unknown, the original "I don't want to go there, to see the Pink Flamingo..." Very Lynch. The Suffering was good too. But yes, Silent Hill #1, though I've only played SH2.

Silent Hill has a much better atmosphere than dead space. Most horror games about now try to go for the more cinematic approach... dead space is all about the gore and the jumpiness much like horror movies. Silent Hill drew you in... you could get through the entire second game without really having to fight anything... if you turned your flashlight off when near an enemy on some of the difficulty modes they wouldn't even fight you... until you hit them of course.

Apparently i can't do it in the dark so i had to turn on the light.

For its time, Silent Hill definately had the Scariest game/place/whatever. Loved the series. Dead Space was a very very great game, yes, but it didn't have the same sorta atmosphere that Silent Hill had.

Of those I've only played Dead Space, Silent Hill 2/most of 3, and Resident evil DC,2,3 CV:X,4. Silent Hill is By far the scariest series. The part that freaked me out the most is in Silent Hill 2 In the 1st Apartment building In the lobby on the top catwalk, the way it creeks and groans....The way they did the sound... At that time I didn't have surround sound and was playing alone at night and to hear sounds coming from the walls freaked the shit out of me....

Nice list. The Ishimura from Dead Space could have been scary, but it's really an action game trying to be a horror game. Besides the Brutes, every enemy is easy as fuck and even the brutes can be defeated easily as long as you know how to sidestep. Dead Space isn't scary to those of us who have played a Fatal Frame game before or have watched a scary movie ever Even though you only rated it 3rd I consider FF2 to be the best survival horror game of all time. I know this is only location, though.
