I don't what any previous comments say with regards to this video, but this is an EXCEPTIONAL band! Not perfect, but damn close as far as a 2A high school band is concerned. This music is more invigorating than some drum corps stuff I have seen recently. Plus the drill for this show is just incredible. I had the honor of competing against them in semi-finals in 2008 as a member of the new 3 year old Spoto HS band and I have to say... this is just inspirational.
You guys have a really nice sound. My concern is that the baritones tend to overplay on the fortes. They lose to dark, warm brassy characteristic tone and become overly edgy. This, IMO, was the one area that hurt the show. The loud sections lost the blend and beauty of your softer sections.
Also, idk if it was the music, but that saxophone line seemed convoluted and I'm not entirely sure that they were together.
well... as I graduated last year... I can't really speak officially... but here's the gist.
Last season, we had two bands. The one at States was competitive, audition only.
This year, he's combined the two back into one. As such, they weren't anywhere near as strong a band. That, in addition to the state of the economy and other factors, led the director to not be as competitive this past season, meaning no states...
