The law states otherwise. You can't hunt whales in a whale sanctuary, you have to have the ok by the Madrid protocol to do any research in the SO, you're not allowed to fuel below 60 degrees. Japan isn't following any laws down there.

@sorryimsogreat2 The Madrid protocal? The law the Japanese are following is the IWC convention. The convention clearly states that it is okay to kill whales for research anywhere. The sanctuary only applies to commercial whaling.

If Aus take them to international court and they are found guilty then that will be different but at that moment the Japanese have not been proven to be breaking any laws.
The ainu situation is bad but Japan are not the ones telling other countries how to live. Maybe Aus should look after its own people. Or stop selling Uranium at least.

SSCS has crew FROM japan, that in itself throws that argument out the window. I have talked to plenty of people from Japan who think the same thing. Japans not telling other countries what to do? That comes as a shocker to me considering how happily they bribe and threaten small nations to get their political favor. I'd like Aus to stop selling Uranium, and like it more if Japan stopped dumped radioactive waste into the environment.

@sorryimsogreat2 Sure a country could take more than a hundred years to give native people full voting rights, then just ignore those people as they are poorly represented in government and lead some of the worst stats, then go worrying about what another country does in international water. Its just than when a country does this it gives the impression that they might not be worth listening to.
Any way most whales the Japs take are not endangered and they do not brake the law.

Has Japan ever tried to tell Aus how to live or what to eat? When Aus throws stones from its glass house it is reasonable for someone to ask where their priorities lie. Care about saving the whales? Sure. Care about its own native people? Not so much.

Hard to think its reasonable for Aus to talk about nuclear power problems, if they really cared they would stop selling uranium but obviously in this case the money is more important than the environment.
Speaking up against what is wrong is one thing, telling people they cannot eat an animal simply because you happen to like it is quite another thing altogether.
