i've always found it quite entertaining to watch people criticize each others' cultures when in fact they're just a sad bunch of ignorant monolingual narrow-minded simpletons.
Les français, vous devriez arrêter de recracher toutes vos idées reçues et les jolis petits clichés que vous vous êtes inventés sur les états-unis.
And you americans, should stop acting like smart asses, correcting every tiny mistake most french users make while making the tremendous effort of speaking your language.
With all the people in her neighborhood helped by Amelie it is a shame she could not have met Frehel herself and straightened out her messed up life. Maybe Frehel did not want help, or could not have cleaned up her messed up life at all.
lol some people get so riled over movies and music. This movie isn't about America, the Natives, racism, or France even. It's about Amelie, and how she came to learn to live and love without fear.
A beautiful song to accompany a beautiful movie. Nuff said.
hmmm sorry people but i don,t see any links of your arguments about natives and america and all the tralala and Fréhel's song...sorry ! could you just try to enjoy and leave all your differences aside.
This does sound like Edith Piaf! It's just that Edith Piaf is just a bit more powerful and this chanteuse is a bit soft and more relaxed. At 1:45, she looks like Edith Piaf in her late teens and early twenties!
its so 20s......macaroons, accordions, parisians whispering into each other's ears, putting hands in each other's pockets, with the occasion birds' melodious chirps, and the waving eiffel tower smiling on:)
Wow. Way to turn the comments, which really should be about the beauty of the song, into a pitiful argument over American culture. Can't everyone just appreciate the song without getting fussy over nothing but a few words?
I dare to say that Americans haven't got any self- developed culture, most of them are just the descendents of the criminals, sects an nerdy people that either fled Europe or were sent over to America.
They also are kept uneducated from the american governement, many don't even know that there was something like natives...
I'm really wating for answers, even the pissed ones, I can handle it.
I'm sorry you feel that way about America. And why, if I may ask, do you believe that most Americans do not know 'that there was something like natives'? I believe basic history of the Native American culture is taught throughout the country. Lastly, it's 'waiting', dear. :)
...I'm sorry "amerikkka" feels that way about natives. the answer to your question may be- because euro-merica, in it's multicentury tradition of ETHNO-NARCISSISM, and racial self-absorbedness in the mainstream media, NATIVES ARE ABSOLUTELY NON-EXISTENT IN THE AMERICAN SPOTLIGHT of that which is to be deemed relevant in Hollywood and the social stage. Economically, socially, and politically they are given ABSOLUTELY NO NATIONAL PLATFORM NOR AIRTIME on which to communicate.Americans can't even
tell you what the hell name of the Nation that existed RIGHT ON THE VERY GROUND THEIR HOME SITS ON!! Maybe THAT'S why whoever said that americans don't know that Natives exist. It could be because the Natives now only make up 1% of the population ON THEIR OWN CONTINENT-just to put into scope just HOW ATROCIOUS AND DISGUSTING the "founding" of "america" was.GENOCIDE AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING, and that's what you guys worship on money, street & library names, bridges, holidays and patriotic lore today.
-it may be cuz the "american" way has always been to SHUT OUT the Native and Black narrative on its history,so to the extent that those like you today can have the nerve to say "I'm sorry you feel that way about 'america',and your disdain for 'america', and somehow label it "intellectual incest" and keep a straight face while saying it.The Native issue is KRYPTONITE to america's legitimacy, the skeleton in the closet of the american psyche, the corpse in the shallow grave on america's conscience.
Contrary to the "american" way,I have not remembered to FORGET the lessons of history,ESPECIALLY "america's" history,n subsequently I am not fooled by the master narrative. You are because it convenes those of your obvious skin color to be so,n follow it.But this is the 21st century, the beginning of the wall that your COLONY will be running into face first. That wall is global reality, and poetic justice-both of which "america" is scared to DEATH of.I commend those defending their homelands today.
They've gotten the warnings form MANY natives speaking from EXPERIENCE here, and rightfully so,in light of "america's" track record on stealing land, they fight so they are not GENOCIDED,and don't have their HOMELANDS STOLEN AS WELL AND CALLED THE INVADING EUROPEANS' LAND-sound far fetched?Well it's already happened in "israel"-AND AMERICA'S SUPPORTING THAT!!Who do you think you're fooling!?And by the way, this song is not romantic...the bitch sounds like she's bouncing her finger off her pharynx.
All civilizations rise and fall. I think your disdain for the United States stems from a brand of intellectual incest that may be called "nationalism." Ruffling feathers during such a lovely piece of music is hardly romantic, but I understand your defensive attitude.
So when's 'america's' turn? Cuz it NEVER BELONGED HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!! Face it. I know it's hard for euro-mericans to, but it's THE TRUTH. THAT'S what's wrong with most americans.
You Americans are jealous because you can not produce a film as beautiful and complete as that. The only thing that do you know is make silly and sensational movies. Critique yourself before criticizing others.
I'm spanish and I'm not english and I don't know very much English, this way that I don't know if your commentary is directed me. I agree in that it's a very good movie, minimalist and that doesn't stop indifferently
If I had tried, be sure I would have succeded. Before talking about my country learn our history or don't talk at all.I have nothing to say to you because you don't worth any of my words.I am a European snob and proud of it.

I know more about the history of YOUR country than you do. I actually and very fond of your country and have spent many happy summers there. Particularly in the South-West.
But really, what's this got to do with anything? Euro-snob? What does THAT mean? Nothing.
"Amelie" is a cute film--that's it--it's for those under 20. It's manipulative and rather empty. Lets' end this pointless discussion.
how could you know what i know?I actually study European history, but, hey, that's just me..Consider this discution over, your blah-blah-blah is making me tired..Good day to you.And remember, people who claim that know it all, are those who know nothing really.Ciao..

You need to consider that most people listening to this song will like the film a lot. Your original comment did not respect that fact.
