  • This song is as beautiful as they come, and you've done a beautiful job on it.

  • Isn't that instead "The Great Speckled Bird" by brother Ozwald?

  • boy i wish i could get those slants to work out like that. it's hard to put together all those quick changes in a row.

  • Sweeeeeeet!

  • Lovely. I've learn this piece from Rob Ickes's Big Time CD and tab book, and I have to say I really like the way you do it. When I can play it I shall put a video up!

By the way, is that a Meredith you are playing?

    Cheers

    Liam

  • Liam,

you are right, it`s a Meredith indian rosewood / spruce top.

( I´m gonna wait for that video )

  • Love those slants on the 3-5th strings. I Gotta learn to do that !

  • Many songs are based on this melody; music scholars classify the later ones as "melody from" the original, Rev. Guy Smith's "Great Speckled Bird." The order, I think, was: 1-Smith/GSB; 2-A.P. Carter/ITTOMBE; 3-Acuff/GSB. Other songs w/this melody: "Wild Side of Life", Kitty Wells' response, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky-Tonk Angels," and more. Martin correctly states that he is playing "ITTOMBE" based on Rob Ickes' version, released on Rounder as ITTOMBE & credited to A.P. Carter.

  • jamiedon, thank you very much for explaining. It`s realy interesting that so many songs are based to the same melodie.

    Martin

  • Great, smoothe playing. Yes It's the "Great Speckeled Bird". No matter it is very nice. I am a begginer and I get a lot of info from your vids.

    Jim

  • Very nice ,i am going to try and learn this using your video..Great job, very tasteful.

  • To Martin & stretch50: Sorry to say it's not the same song. What martin is playing is "The Great Speckled Bird", and not "I'm thinking tonight of my blue eyes". They have perhaps the same chord-scheme, but are really different songs.

  • strech50,

    I guess you are right

    Martin

  • Nicely done Martin,,Is that song also called the Great Speckled Bird because it sounds very much the same melody. (just wondering).

  • Great stuff I do a few podcasts and would love to feature some of your music and link people back to you in the show notes... Contact me if interested... either way 5 stars and thanks.

  • Thanks for the post Martin. I'm still working on bending behind the bar. I've had more success switching to a lighter gauge string. Still doesn't sound quite right though.

  • Nice!!!

  • I learned that song from Rob Ickes at Sore Fingers Summer School. He is a fantastic player and also a great teacher.

    cheers

    Martin
