I went on a trip to Deleware in America, and in Dover, they have about 7 of them stationed there, I saw one take off, and it was just the sheer size make the ground rumble during take off.
I remember a story of a Cessna (or some other small craft, preeetty sure it was a Cessna...) waiting for clearance at the beginning of the runway. A C-5 next in line taxied up a bit too close.
The Cessna radioed the tower asking why the C-5 was getting so close, but before the tower could answer the C-5 pilot began opening the nose, and a deep voice over the radio said "I'M GONNA EAT YOU!"
Used to load cargo onto the C5...was stationed at Rhein Main AB...saw some crazy stuff loaded into it belly....I think the most unbelievable was 3 SeaKing helicoptors. You just can't fathom how big the sucker is until you're in it.
what a trip seeing the c5b in action I worked at the lockheed plant in Marietta Ga for about 6 years and worked on all 50 of the c5bs that were put out between 84 when I started and 90 when I got laid off. there were attempts to sell more of them but the af wanted a new toy (C-17)
It was the toughest, most mentally and physically challenging school, yet the most rewarding training I have ever been through. Just stay positive and focus on the tasks at hand and you'll do fine.
LOL loadmasters are nothing more than celebrated stewardesses....you better listen to everything the fucking crew chief cays, you know NOTHING about the airplane
The C5 is one of my favorite aircraft. When you see it flying, you wonder how it stays in the air, because of its massive size - you ever see one take off? WOW. 5/5 stars.
Every year, Carswell Air Force Base (now NAS Fort Worth) used to hold air shows. You can bet a C5 was on static display, and you could walk in and off, through the cargo hold - MASSIVE. Hope you get to see one, soon! They're incredible.
It IS my favorite aircraft. I live on Robins AFB and they come to this base to be repaired ALL THE TIME! or updated...
anywho.. I can just be sitting in school and all of a sudden you hear this DEAFENING "whining" sound and those who know their aircraft know what it is. I look out the window and lo and behold, it's the C-5 Galaxy! :D
@stormspinner1 you want to feel the ground rumble...be within 3 miles of a B1-B with the burners light up full when it is taking off. Nothing beats a B1-B on take offs.
@stormspinner1 Watched one at Mountain Hom AFB in Idaho come in from close range, they're freakin epic to watch in person and it really does make one wonder how that hulking beast can even get off the ground much less appear to be going so slow on landing...
no offense but the galaxies wing span is smaller only by inches the rating on size is not height or weight or width nor is it length believe it or not the russians only added 2 extra engines to the 225 so it could have a larger wing span believe it or not the C-5 GALAXY has a larger cargo deck believe it or not besides the USAF is a pioneer in cargo planes the US have been airlifting longer than ANY other COUNTRY on the planet for a total weve also airlifted more dont use wikipedia for research
Try a taxi in the An, the wheels do not even caster. What exactly does the an haul??? It was meant for Russias space program...... thats why they only build 1.5 of them I guess.
yeah i was lucky enough to get detailed tour last week! absolutely huge! i mean wow! ive got 2 vids i made of the C5M that came thru, check out "C5M Super Galaxy" and "C5M Super Galaxy Take Off"
The camera that recorded this video could be better but I still liked it!
