I love this song. I love Shannon. Blind Melon isn't the same without him. He was such a beautiful person, and still to this day his voice and thoughts touch my very soul. Especially with this song. I fully understand, and can relate to what he is talking about. miss you Shan
Shannon Hoon admitted droppin' acid prior to Blind Melon going on stage for this. How the hell he managed to pull off such great performances of the songs amazes me.
@mslazydaizey hey, i think i remember you; were you that cute chick jumping up and down, dancing in the mud? i was the guy with the hair and the t-shirt... ;)
That was a great harmonica solo. If you like that you should look up David Sanborn's saxophone solo on the Eric Clapton and Sheryl Crow edition of Little Wing. It is awesome. Turn down the volume on your speakers first though, the video starts out super loud. Solo starts at about 2:30.
I was in high school through the early 90's and I remember Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon VERY well. I was never fortunate enough to get to see them perform, I went to school with a few people who went to Woodstock, '94 and got to see this performance. I guess people don't really think about it until after someone is gone. I remember the day Shannon died, the decade of the 90's was a sad time for music, R.I.P. Kurt Cobain, Shannon Hoon, Layne Stayley, and Dave Williams, you are always missed.
I remember watching this live at a big party my friends and I threw. I was 20...seems forever ago. They are one of my favs till this day. My kids listen to them now *proud mommy*
i miss shannon hoon and his amazing voice. i know, blind melon was a flash in the pan for most people, a band caught somewhere between grunge and neo hippie crap. but, a man with such an emotive voice was able to set the tone for many other bands and many other genres. this happens to be one of my favorite songs by blind melon, i hope it is yours also!
Im glad i was born in the 80s. Im glad theres a load of shit music out today. Im glad because theres 5 decades of incredible music to listen too. As a matter of fact theres way too much music to pick from. So quit your wining and start jamming.
by far the greatest act that played that day and as a melonhead any other day for that matter til the day we lost one of the greatest, most charasmatic frontmen ever however short his time was! to hell with the haters that just cant get it! you always got a helluva show out of all these guys! i miss them so!
Happy birthday Shannon. All us Melon Heads miss and love you. I hope you feel no pain wherever you are, and you can sing your heart out all day long...
I was in the front to the right, one of the best performances of the festival. It started raining toward the end of the per formance, how ominous. Really glad I quit my job in Texas to go.
This is the best rock n roll band of the 90's hands down!!!!! One of the best rock bands of all times!!!! If you like Blind Melon then you have to check out "Letters to a Porcupine", awesome Documentary!!!!!!
I'll never forget....I was there in '94, when I was 33, it was amazing. Saw this performance....I believe Shannon Hoon died later the same year, October. It wasn't violent like the '99 show--I think the rain kept people mellow. I was there is a woman I was dating at the time, still a good friend. I can actually pick us out of the crown on the videotape.
I have a friend (neighbour) who is like 6 or 7 years older than me. Anyway, me and him were drinking one night and he told me about when he was 19 him and buddy drove all the way up to woodstock..met cool dude who live there..cool dude parked there cars..set up their tent while my friend and his buddy when to check out the show. My friend did massive amount of acid and after waking up one morning (on cloud nine) he said he looked up and shannon looked like an angel..he said he'll never forget it
yes, this performance in many ways mirrors Jimi Hendrix in 1969 , whereby Shannon is so absolutely giving the performance of his life just like Jimi and both passed shortly after their woodstock shows. So tragically coincidental, and such a terrible loss for music.. i feel so priveleged to have been there in the masses packed so tightly you had to hold your head up to breath. To watch Blind Melon do there thing.. R.I.P SH
I wish I could find the video of him (I think it was a "behind the music" or sometinng) playing this on his porch before he hit it big. One of the best performances ever...
What a version. I love Blind melon. Check out my site by clicking the link on my channel is you are an avid Melonhead who wants to read a classic review of this amazing album.
It was too good. You can't out do what these bands did and no one cares for reproductions. Future artists had nowhere to go but to popular culture. Now music is filled with gimmicks and half-heartedness. Everything is to make money. These bands made money because they were amazing. They didn't need to play on tainted themes or worn out themes.
i recorded this on a cassette tape when i was 11 years old. 92.3fm in newyork broadcast the whole woodstock concert and i dubbed it on my familys stereo. those were the good ol days.
Everyone loves this and that is great; dont forget to credit Rogers, CT, GG and Brad for all this fantastic music also. Dont get me wrong Shannon changed my life as much as the rest of yall ( hope hes somewhere making music now that we can enjoy someday(OH BOY!!!!)), but he didn;t go it alone. Hopefully they will make more music soon. Even if they won't I get it.. Thanks for all the inspirational music that I love.
damn how this song tends to cut my heart in two. Shannon new exactly how to intercept with peoples emotions, which makes him one of my all time favorite lyricist/musicians. Rip shannon hoon, you will always get me through the rough times that never seem to go away.
I comment on every Blind Melon video.... and now i am all out of words to express my love towards their music. All i can say now is there music makes me high.
I hate that I was 4 years old when this happened. Shannon Hoon was a beautiful person and Blind Melon were destined for so much more. I went to an open mic night, and the girl sang this song and no one knew what she was singing, I went mental and she waved me up, so I sang it with her, BEST NIGHT EVER. I love Blind Melon. They make life worth living.

@Robfalcon501 If he was it was probably just a hit or two, he shows amazing control of himself if he was "tripping balls". We had pretty good acid in the 90's, only took a couple of hits to get you off.
I was at Woodstock 94 and I saw this performance and I really do not ever think I will fully be able to fathom the brilliance I witnessed, simply mesmerizing. Though I fully realize the 94 Woodstock could not come close to rivaling the original, I firmly believe it was the closest understanding my generation could have possibly gotten to the ultimate Zen of the original. 4 days of living in faultless harmony and peace with 250,000 brothers and sisters, truly inspiring, and infinite memories
@IncendiaryMurderer I can assure you the music factory was nowhere near this at the time, it was just as then as it is now, but good music will always find a way! :-D
@IncendiaryMurderer bullshit true music is out there but big brother doesn't bother with talent all he cares about is his next paycheck. We need to take back America then music will return to the way it once was. I'm just afraid its too late, fuck we're almost a police state now. Fascist America
@TheRileyLayne nah my friend. we were both born at the wrong time. that was a watered down woodstock with violence. we need people to come together. Blind Melon rules though.
I love this song. I love Shannon. Blind Melon isn't the same without him. He was such a beautiful person, and still to this day his voice and thoughts touch my very soul. Especially with this song. I fully understand, and can relate to what he is talking about. miss you Shan

@TheRileyLayne I was born in 90's, but it wasn't enough. Too little to know about Shannon and Layne...
Too near to 2000 destinated to change everything. No one will be able to bring us back true music like this,
we've just to have a look to the music factory, today.. It's gone too far from this.

@IncendiaryMurderer I can assure you the music factory was nowhere near this at the time, it was just as then as it is now, but good music will always find a way! :-D

@IncendiaryMurderer we can if you support musicians who play and write real music.. it's all about the fans

@IncendiaryMurderer bullshit true music is out there but big brother doesn't bother with talent all he cares about is his next paycheck. We need to take back America then music will return to the way it once was. I'm just afraid its too late, fuck we're almost a police state now. Fascist America

@StickyKitchenNug Italy is worse, and they piss everyone off talking about their music factory crisis..
Ignorant people who don't care are the worst ones.

@TheRileyLayne nah my friend. we were both born at the wrong time. that was a watered down woodstock with violence. we need people to come together. Blind Melon rules though.

@TheRileyLayne I'm very fortunate to have been alive in this great time. I just wish I would have been able to be at Woodstock.
