That was Reagans policy. Carter had a policy of handouts, entitlements and keeping the people down by those programs. Look at welfare under Carter, a man had to live away from the family so that his family could get food stamps. Under Reagan the man had to work and if he was unable to get work due to lack of education he was given education. But he had to perform and contribute to society. Under Carter he stayed unemployed so that he couldn't be forced to pay $5 for every $1 his family got,

They forced Reagan to adopt spending programs that created the jobs that you all try to credit Reagan for. Prior to that, unemployment rose and the stock market fell two years after Reagans tax cuts. Actually, Pres. Reagan was vilified by the left. They called him a warmonger, an out of touch old man, an elitist, a B grade actor etc. He was made fun of in music videos and many in the Hollywood elite patronized him.
He may not have been liked by the governments of other countries, but he sure demanded respect of our own country. Did he make some mistakes? You bet, but he brought back national pride after the fall of Saigon, the set backs in the cold war and the Iranian Hostage crisis.

Comparing Obama's speech and Regan's would be interesting. It wouldn't really show anything valuable but it would be interesting to see how they differ and are similar rhetorically and, later on, in actions. Will Obama go the route of deregulation in order to "save" the ecomony or will he just let the markets that self destruct disolve. Should be interesting to see what happens

You actually are bitching about Obama winning. You wouldn't be saying all of this had he lost. The fact that some voted for Obama because he's black is not in dispute. However, that is a very small percentage and every poll indicates that more voted "against" Obama because of his race than vice versa.

Reagan surrounded himself with people smarter than him and that is how one must govern. Obama should do the same. America loved Reagan, but there were many groups left out of during his presidency: blacks, hispanics, people in small town america-Reagan shifted the power from the big cities to the suburbs. Everybody thought that the Reagan Era produced an unbreakable electorate for the Republican party, but Clinton dented it and Obama smashed it.

Why did he break the fundamental laws of separation of powers put in place by the founding fathers by way of the Iran-contra affair?
