What she said it's gonna do you're stretching out lung capacity and getting your lungs ready for exercise and it helps you not run out of breath (stamina) so that it will be easier to do cardio..

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to breathe from your diaphragm and not your chest. And by pretty sure I mean know for a fact.
If you want to know how to take a deep breathe properly just breathe in imagining you're trying to fill your stomach up with air.
