I first heard this as the background music in the BBC's radio adaptation of 'A Suitable Boy'. It took me ages to find out what the song was and who sung it, but it started my love for old Bollywood songs.
one of the oldest and one of the few technicolor prints! Indian cinema ( in all vernaculars) was more obsessed with East man colour, only handful of films came in technicolour.
Funny to see a man in burkha accompanied by a woman with face visible :) After seeing Kishore Kumar's crazy version, Vaijayanti Mala's dance and Asha's voice appeared soft and delicate! VM's tried danced well, her hip swing is great. Co-dancers are very gymnastic Message: don't play with fire.
This song was a great one for me...I was about 6 years old.....it was influenced by American movies of the time. Maka naka maka naka means "I dont want" in Konkani, the language of Goa. Goans were more westernized and wore western clothing..see the skirts? so the song was supposed to reflect Goa...most of the words ARE nonsensical....listen to me, my dad processed all of these movies in his lab...;)
@tonynaso : Vyjayathimala is a priceless gem, see her here, or in Sangam (meh kya karoon ram..) or a bharthanatyam competition with Padmini in her tamil film (Vangi kottai valibaan), or her kathak number with Gopi Krishnan, she was in good in all forms of dance, she was the most versatile dancer cum actress to hit the hindi film screen ever (no offence to Hema Malini or Meenakshi Seshadri etc... they were good too, but no match to Vyjayanthimala)

Ina-mina-dika, die Dominica, naka-naka-naka, Why does she want Dominica to die?
Koureas 1 year ago 2
@Koureas It's not Die Dominica, it's De-Dai-Damanika. Much of the songs is simply nonsensical monosyllables.

Wonderfully nutty, with a fine honking saxophone and smooth electric guitar accompaniment.
Too bad it ends before we get to see the set in flames and the lead singer whacked in the head by a falling prop candlestick.

Asha is superb and of course no words to describe Vyjaynthimala..she was way ahead of her time. Absolutely amazing dancer.
