Sounds like Cramer is more concerned with making money of GM stock as opposed to a worker being able to feed their family. When it comes down to it, I believe family comes first ABOVE money.
if it weren't for unions these places could be run much more efficiently because in a union there is NO incentive to work hard. for 1 promotions are all seniority based and 2 because of the union the company can't fire you for being a shitty worker(within reason). i work in a factory that is unionized....i see how lazy alot of the workers are every day.
UAW = Rude, nasty, intoxicated, immoral thugs...screw 'em. Let them cry, they will destroy anyone who works hard or cares. Money you put into them is pissed away!
Looking back as a monday morning quarterback,Jim Cramer got a fail for his views. If Cramer had his way every single car made by GM would be made overseas.Sacrifice the least able to defend themselves and then work your way up so that 98% of the wealth blongs to 2% of the population.Opps Cramer got his wish and now corporations can buy their own congressman, you should be very happy Jim.
Looking back as a monday morning quarterback,Jim Cramer does not have a single clue about what America needs, this man might be able to pick a few stocks but he should not be allowed near any economic policy for the good of the nation.
And I work with steel everyday a brake prees or 800 ton mechanical. My compant fid the same for its employees told us what our actual compensation is came out to bout 49 dollars an hour with all benifits and thats a good job 78 dollars is ridiculous!
Jims rite the Union has killed Detroit and the American automotive industry! At some point the union was necesary but now the union is obsolete and there demands are outragous. No one at a blue collar job needs to make 30 dollars an hour and have a salary and benifits package thats at or over 78 dollars an hour per employee. The UAW is full of greed the same as the coroparate greed in the same company. Its time to sink or swim. Go back to work with a medium wage and decent benifits.
Rick Wagoner.....what?....who?....oh that guy...the guy who saved GM yea right.
I don't know why anyone who wants to invest in stocks watches Cramer, when Jimmy says something about a stock I do the opposite...the man is a puppet....
unions have completely fucked GM and Chrysler. It doesn't make sense to make cars in Detroit when they're $2000 more expensive even before they come out of the assembly line. And best employees, do hell with them. People in toyota/honda are doing the same job for an average $21/hour. Unfortunately, this admin bailed out the unions because they funded millions of dollars in the presidential campaign. People have no money to eat here and GM is bailed out, sounds ridiculous.
HA! WAGONER IS THE "REAL DEAL?!" I wonder if Cramer would say that now. Put that one in the wrong column--next to Bear Stearns! He keeps proving himself to be an idiot more and more. I've had enough with the wingnuts blaming the unions. GM is in the tank because of the bad cars it designed.
GM is in the tank because the UAW is over paid and under worked. Any concessions they take now are simply too little, too late. Their, "work 2 hours, get paid for eight hours, something for nothing" (not to mention the do nothing job banks) mentality has bankrupted GM.
Well because the white house cant avoid globalization. If we continue paying like $70+/hour to UAW, then we don't deserve to make a car here. + If we increase tariffs, other economies wont sit quietly, specially the developing ones.
Cramer is a fucking nazi, this is the wall street asshole that last year told everyone to buy Bear Stearns stock at like $60. He is a former wall street insider and is doing excactly what you would expect an evil corporate hack to do
Human rights are subordinated to the overriding need of proffit for investors. Decisions are placed in the hands of unaccountable private tyranies to the extent that even democratic government is nothing more than the shaddow cast over society by corporations. Economic pollicy is geared for the transfer of wealth and power to those that already have it. The one counter measure the working class has is the labor movement.
The union is bullshit!! All they do is take your money and help out the trouble makers. If you do your job right you don't need a union so why pay? big3 workers are overpaid and think they rule the world. Let's see who can get a job without knowing somebody on the inside.
I am in a union and I find that laughable as well. I always show up because I care about my work athic and providing for my family. American workers are getting worse and worse. The chinese make us look fat and lazy even though a lot of us are not.
Wow, just learned the divorce rate in America is declining at a rapid pace ... SO LETS BAIL OUT THE MONEY-GRUBBING DIVORCE LAWYERS WHO USED TO LIVE HIGH-ON-THE-HOG LIKE THE AUTO WORKERS DO !
Here in Europe I worked for Skoda auto maker in 1970s and 1980s for about $8000/year. I know my son is making about $13000/year in the factory now. No wonder that US worker with how much $30000/year? is no longer feasible for US auto maker. Thats why they are making factories here, we work for $10000/year here, and we are productive too! Wake up.
UAW assemblers get paid more than many engineers. I'm a masters in engineering and my dream will be to make the salary of a UAW. Sounds funny but it seriously isnt
Shelby is nuts just like the rest of those children of slave owners. you cant hide from yourself everyone know who and what you are, ass holes.I think they like sound of there voices.
No, people are mad because neither the UAW nor the big3 deserve or should get a cent. It goes against all laws of capitalism. You've played a long game, YOU HAVE LOST and now is the time to start paying the consequences. Unfortunatley we the people of this Nation and consumers are going to continue paying for your actions. Yes the UAW has great employees, but in general they have for decades protected drug using, unproductive, unsafe, incompetent, thieves/scum.
All while being paid exorbitant amounts of money which the consumer, hard working people, the environment, and US manufacturing has paid for. A majority of your jobs can be performed by anyone, at a way more productive high quality level, for less. Being compensated for Seniority and not performance is INSANE. It provides no workforce motivation and kills the American dream. The so called "skill" required to perform most of this work can be learned by almost anyone in weeks.
Cease to exist UAW, the people have spoken - let competition and supply and demand bring US manufacturing and the auto industry back into the spotlight of success. NO BAILOUT - survive on your own, or file for bankrupcty.
you should go on a tour and see gm workers that sit in lawn chairs at corvette plant then go on tour at toyota no lawn chairs what is the diff union ??
So the argument here is G.M. employees can afford a lawn chair? Do you work there?? Was the line running or was it not when you see employees resting for a few minutes? Ridiculous assumptions once again!!!
That EPI guy showed how clueless he is with his last comment. Getting GM's stock to go up doesn't do anything for the middle class? Who exactly does he think the middle class is? Does he think only the super-rich own stock? How about that very GM pension fund he wants to defend?
Corporate greed? How about Union Blackmail. Who didn't see this coming? How is an industry to survive when they pay unskilled workers upwards of 40 dollars an hour? The new contract should involve union busting.
uh no.. the new uaw worker makes about 14.95 an hr from the 2006 agreements. labor cost only make up 10% of the cost of the car. you have to factor in shipping, gas, insurance, debt/ratio to market trends, and parts that come from various companies that would also fall if these companies fall. not to mention the money the gov will pay in increase unemployment benfits and medicaid claims will cost the tax payer 100X more than what they are asking for now.
that shows the depth of some peoples stupidity. they take all the wages, pensions, vacations, insurance, of everyone who ever worked at gm ever, including widow benefits and divide by the total hours worked by todays employees and come up with $70 per hour. it's a big number and will get attention, but its a lie. you guys deserve all you fought for, and some ppl dont realize your work benefits non union ppl too. keep up the good fight!!
WE ARE TRYING and have been for decades to make the management of manufacturing non-union "sweat shops" allow ppl to be treated fairly. And the inflated 70 dollars an hour, well let me say someone owes UAW workers a check if that was true, but it is NOT true! more spin again.
well is some have their way, we all will be working for minimum wage, if they dont get rid of the minimum wage too! why for year the manufacturing base has been allow to leave just escapes me. this country cant survive in a service based economy cause if ppl dont have money...theres no one to serve!
uh no.. the new uaw worker makes about 14.95 an hr from the 2006 agreements. labor cost only make up 10% of the cost of the car. you have to factor in shipping, gas, insurance, debt/ratio to market trends, and parts that come from various companies that would also fall if these companies fall. not to mention the money the gov will pay in increase unemployment benfits and medicaid claims will cost the tax payer 100X more than what they are asking for now.
Cramer was spot on. To bad what he was saying should happen didn't, and now GM is facing bankruptcy and the whole nine yards. This guy Ross is an idiot with his talk of government stepping in as well as nationalized health care. Government regulation with its cafe standard etc is what put these companies in the positions they're in now. Clearly he's no economist and isn't looking at things realisticly.
go to bookstore to find some logistics book and supply chain books..
Americans are doing so ineffecient in making cars. UAW and BIG 3 think they are using effcient ways to make cars, but , in fact, not at all. They should stop making oil guzzlers, and make effcient and reliable cars that don't need maintenance 10 times a year~!
Many americans don't realize that they drive so many big cars, wasting oil on the road.
I understand many americans are fat. Is that the reason that many americans want to drive a big car? I guess those big 3 are good at making big cars, but they make ugly, inefficeint cars that don't appeal to anybody in the world outside of usa.
THE INDUSTRY CAN BE SAVED, let them fail or survive on their own. Either way better, greener, more innovative products will eventually create success. The economy will have to fall further before things will get better. Anything else will only slow down the inevitable.
The Union is not breaking GM it takes 100 Union guys to make what an executive makes & that's not up to the president! You take away the union & that will be the fall of this country! The union protects the worker from unfair labor practices! Wake the F'up! You want rice pattie wages? You'll get them! The workers have worked in asbestos, galvanize smoke before OSHA stepped it! They work Hard for their wages! Go get a retail job! The CEO's are looting this country. Do your research!
Cramer said in this video he was a union steward at one time? That makes him a turncoat! We can keep these jobs here if UAW agrees to lower wages, MANAGEMENT agrees to lower wages and no free options, and the USA implements a national health care system. But I wouldn't go as far to say unions need to be broken. There are other issues in anufacturing environments where you need some kind of representation to protect your rights as an employee.
I have an idea for you, why don't you go to your boss on Monday, and give up everything you have because of unions. You will be very surpised what you will lose. You talk about competing for jobs, this isn't sports, this is life. For your information Toyota workers are trying to get organized with the UAW. I work with a guy who moved from Ohio to work, because his steel mill closed down and moved across seas. It's was a nonunion job, now he is happy to be working and part of a union.
I don't know where you get the idea that union people are making $40+ an hr, you are way out there. Why are auto industry hurting think about GATT/NAFTA, outsourcing, and unfair trade laws. You need to understand that we are fighting class warfare in the US.We are paying the price for the failure of our government for the last 12 yrs, stop blowing smoke. What about our debt, housing, terrible dollar, jobs, education, unfair trade laws, and wars, great job by the republicans. Get smart, POS.
where do live Russia...here in Canada the average line worker makes 32-34 an hr and trades on the line make 40-45 an hr.when they go on strike they make money, when they get layed of they make money...they are breaking the company with there benefits and greed...can't wait to buy a new Mazda!!at least they service the whole car!!
IM NOT IN RUSSIA,I've Never been on Strike, When Layedoff the State pays the Unemployment. 18 years U.A.W. FORD in Michigan iS $28.895 an HOUR + $1.080 COLA. Yes Im reading my paycheck. And our Asian competition down south are trying to organize and their average assembly top hourly wage is about $24 an hour. $34 an hour is more than someone in trades with 38 years would make an hour. THERE REALLY SHOULD BE A TEST TO VOTE IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, DONT YOU THINK?
It doesn't matter WHO you vote for! The chosen one is only a puppet for the New World Order. Check out the SPP on youtube, do your research! Our country is being looted, the bailout is not being used for what it was intended. We don't need Big Pharma, they are killing people, by design! Fluoride in your water? Hitler used it to make camp victims docile. Meds for the masses! GMO foods, Obama appointed head of Monsanto to the FDA, Go figure it out, follow the money trail!
I really feel sorry for you, you just don't get it. AMERICANS made this country great, we should be the leaders. It's people like you who don't care about where the products made or how much. It's about us, the ones who pay taxes and live here in AMERICA. When one or two are getting rich off the back of the workers, we are all losing. Why don't you worry about your neighbors or the people losing jobs to outsourcing.Ihope you get smart, and see the light. You need a life, and you are still a POS.
It's the people with ambition to create something better that make this country great. They have the right to get rich for providing what people are willing to pay for. The workers have the right to 'just a fair' wage. $40+/hr on the assembly line is robbery. People are willing to do those job for less than half of that. The unions prevent competition for those jobs and making it hard for the manufacturers to compete with imports. You can not have quality and value without competition.
I'm sure you agree about competition when applied to cable TV, sports, etc. But you won't admit you are overpaid. Toyota is now in first place. I heard on the news today that the House Democrats are considering an auto industries bailout. That's your Democrats, making everybody pay for your failure.
You are so pathetic. If people aren't making good wages and benefits, they aren't going to spend money to help the economy. Again, another person who is self-centered, one of these days you will realize the America is for the people not self serving slobs like you. This is a fight to restore the middle class and the people of the United States. Corporate greed isn't helping, at least the Unions are trying to get better wages and benefits. Oh, by the way U of I is a college. You are so smart:DPOS
Gregjr36, you don't need a college degree to do the same simple brainless things every minute, every day. Just ask the fries guy at McD.
You have the right to make a good wage if you put the value back into the products. You are losing your job because you build crappy products. That's not just my opinion, just check Consumer Reports. You can't blame anybody else.
Gregjr36, I don't really care if they outsource your job. I work hard for my money. I don't care if the products I buy were made here or in China. I will buy quality and value wherever it comes from.
You are not losing your job because of corporate greed. It's consumers demanding quality and value.
Trying to stay in the middle class is like trying to stay in second place.
It's is corporate greed, congress for the last eight yrs, and Bush. Don't sit there on your high horse and tell me it's the unions driving jobs across seas. I graduated from U Of I in international Business and Economics so don't feed me this line of shit. Greed is destoying this country. People in high places are screwing the workers of this great country, and you are not going to change my mind. GO LIVE IN CHINA OR MEXICO, OBAMA 08, get the greedy Republicans out now, you are a POS. GET REAL
Corporate greed? Marxism? Maybe you will fit in China better.
How about Capitalism? The job of corporate management is to make a profit for the share holders (workers saving for retirement).
If people want to drive big SUV 50 miles per day each way to work that will affect the supply and demand of oil. Exxon's stocks and profit will go up. You can call that greed, I call that a nice IRA.
I hope your job gets outsourced so bad, people like you are POS. I would like to see people like you try to cross my picket line. I hope lazy jerks like you enjoy labor day, because you have no respect for what labor unions have done for America and people, and don't blame UAW for low stock prices, it's morons buying foreign made junk that helps other companies from across seas. NAFTA really doesn't work. Go Live in CHINA OR MEXICO because you have no love or respect for America, YOU ARE A POS..
Channel 7 in Detroit was talking to people leaving a auto plant after being layoff. Two people said something like "we build great cars, it's just that nobody want to buy them". See Consumer Reports.
GM's stock price is taking a dive because sales are down. It would have helped if so many people didn't buy imports. More people are buying imports because they are tired of working hard for their money and buying your crap.
The union did a lot for the workers in the '20 and '30 or a long long long time ago. Now, all you're doing is driving the manufacturers to outsource the jobs oversea and into bankruptcy. It is the union, not the screwed consumers. It is your fault your kids will not have those high paying jobs. You're an idiot if you believe all the promises Obama is making to save your ass. He is just another very good politician selling you a dream to get into office.
All companies should bust all the collective agreements and get rid of those bargaining rights. Even by bankrupting the company. No unions should exist.
And now the U.S. is going to help China with their earthquake relief(Katrina?), what is we owe them for? Was it the dog food, or the lead paint toys built by junior high school 15 year olds ?
American workers in japanese auto plants in the U.S. make $24 an hour, its a disillusion to believe Jap vehicles are sold at a greatly cheaper price. Shop and compare, and when you hear that Ford is even with Toyota in quality, its partly due to that Toyota's quality has gone down with volume going up. Having to put a $9,000 rebate on a brand new Tundra because its bed gate parallelogramming and in 1st year bumper bolt rusting.
Face reality, the UAW officials are self-serving corrupted inviduals. Most are being sued in federal courts across the country by UAW members who discovered UAW corruption. Unions are good, the UAW is evil. If you want a Union, divest yourself from the UAW, and start your own inhouse Union. Its YOUR RIGHT UNDER THE NLRA
Makes sense, move all the good secure middle class jobs to third world countries that have little to no human rights laws, so that GM, Ford & Chrysler CEO's can make more 100million bonuses.
I'm sure they will help out the middle class; they will all buy Wall-Mart's...plenty of jobs for everyone!!
Just remember, every union job trickles down to 7 local spin-off jobs gone.
Of course GM's stock would rise if the UAW was broken. They would cut wages 60%, remove health care, remove retirement, remove all benefits and cars would be crappier because they would be made by newly hired 18 year olds rather than people with 20 years of experience.
Caterpillers wages have dropped over $10 per hour in the last 15 years since the UAW lost some of it's power. Rich people got richer on the stock. Middle class workers got screwed and rich people like Cramer think that's great.
"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration." - Abraham Lincoln
Union bums. They'll strike and squeeze more demands out of their employers until there's no more manufacturing jobs stateside. After that, Union leadership will blame it on "greedy corporations" and "Republicans". UNION MEMBERS ARE SELFISH ANTI-AMERICAN MOB-RUN THUGS.
WORKERS OF THE WORLD AWAKEN, RISE IN ALL YOUR SPLENDID MIGHT. TAKE THE WEALTH THAT YOU ARE MAKING IT BELONGS TO YOU BY RIGHT.-Joe Hill. American companies owes everything to the American workers, we buy their products just as much as we produce them. It's a shame that they have forgotten who helped them make their billions. Maybe we need to outsource the CEO and politician jobs. Cramer needs to get a grammy for being such an idiot, while we are at it maybe we should outsource his job, no loss.
I guess Kramer makes too much money now to remember what it was like to be a middle class American. If the Unions don't survive the middle class will be gone. Temporary jobs with no benefits are the way of the future unless the labor movement continutes and grows stronger. Corporate greed is choking the American worker. I am the UAW
If it weren't for the Unions and collective bargaining, there wouldn't be a single manufacturer left in the States. If it weren't for the Unions, there wouldn't be a middle-class in the States. Stand Strong Brothers and Sisters! Solidarity!
Corruption? Delphi Executives made $70 Million dollars in bonus, they owed $89 million dollars in debt, do the math. It makes me sick to listen to people talk about union greed, look at the CEO and shareholders greed. It's funny that CEO get a contract, if they get fired they get millions. Maybe the Unions need to get the Mafia back in there, it may shake the foundation of companies again, and make them bargin a fair agreement. I haven't even touch on vice-presidents and managers greed, either.
No deal on UAW/AAM pact yet: Hang in there American Manufacturing brothers & sisters. We the American people of the UAW are on strike to trying to stop the downhill spiral of jobs leaving the United States. IF all american working poor and middle class come together united as one, we will have a chance for the race to the bottom to stop. United we stand all working class of America union or not and divided we fall. NO DEAL!!! SOLIDARITY!!!
I don't know what country you are in,but when it comes to GM the union hasn't held up anything. All you have to do is look at Flint and that was in the 80's,and the spin-off treatment of Delphi workers isn't much better. GM in Ohio 10 yrs ago was the #1 employer with 63,000 now they employ 12,000 and Wal-Mart is #1 in Ohio.
What would you want? People working hard for $7-10 dollar a/h, like Wal-mart(China-Mart), letting your people starve our tax payers money because billionaires won't give a good wage or insurance. People are living off the states(tax) because their are rich greedy CEO. Why don't you complain about people living off of welfare or overpaid congressmen, lobbyist, and actors. If you hate Unions so bad, give your Union job, benifits, insurance, and vacation to someone who wants to be Union. Falsehood.
what about union greed and corruption? face it dude, the story of the American labor movement and the Mob and crooked democratic politicians are one in the same. just ask Jimmy Hoffa
I read a lot of your comments, Unions are formed by working people to protect jobs and workers rights. Have you ever worked in a factory? Do you enjoy your weekends, vacations, workmen's compensation, health care, and pensions. I like Unions, wake up jobs are being moved because of corporate greed. You need to read statistics that when people are union, people make more money, and the economy does better. If they move jobs for cheaper labor, we are being sold out.Why don't you complain about CEO.
36, you nailed it! The real problem is with over-inflated salaries. No human is worth a million dollars, not CEO, Athletes, or anyone. Voters should insist on a politician who will cap salaries and hold them accountable. All the nation should unite for that reason. If you've read my comments you will know that I am non-union at a FACTORY that is choked by the union. Do a youtube search...STRIKE, or Unions scabs, or whatever you like. Unions are dead, check your premise. thanks for your reply!
There's only one Michael Jordan and one Kobe. If their team didn't offer them over a million, I'm sure a lot of other team will. That's why they are worth it.
Maybe you're jealous you're not worth a million. You're doing a job any villager in Mexico or China can do for a lot less than you and better.
If UNIONS are so great, why don't they pool their coerced money and form their own business and prove to the world that they can compete?? WALK THE WALK. Instead, they ride on the coat tails of business that do produce, making demands causing red tape and forcing our american businesses to close or move overseas. It's not 1940. plants are highly mobile now. It wasn't feesible to move a huge plant with huge machinery 50 years ago. other towns near you would love to have your work...
People are being lied to by big business, we are being sold out. When all of our industry is gone, people will complain why we didn't stop this. Unions protect the middle class, maybe some of these people who complain about unions should go to China and live. I get sick of listening to people complain about their jobs and wages, but then complain about unions and their wages. Get orginized. I'm Union, and educated in International Business and Economics,we're being sold out for greed. UAW ROCKS
Unions PRODUCE working agreements with companies that encompass everything from wages to safety standards. If only the Chinese were lucky enough to be able to unionize. BUSINESSES pay these workers several dollars a week so that they can add to their bottom line. In turn they PRODUCE a product that in some cases can be dangerous to our children. How can Americans sit by and watch BIG BUSINESS reap the rewards when their jobs and their safety are at risk?
Unions play a vital role in the American economy. If unions didn't exist our country would not be what it is today. Wages and benefits negotiated for union workers help maintain decent wages and benefits for non-union workers. If it weren't for unions all middle class workers would be making the minimum wage. Also, remember who brought you the 40 hour work week: UNIONS.
No, BUSINESS plays a vital role in the American economy. Unions do not PRODUCE anything, the companies they CHOKE produce the products. In this new era, the global battlefield takes place in corporate arenas. UAW promotes lazy people who want something for nothing. Short term gains at the expense of long term. aka your children. UAW members even vote for multi tier wages, so the incumbant union fools can maintain a high wage at the expense of the new union members. SOLIDARITY?? UAW is corrupt.
Historical experience has made China profoundly averse to foreign exploitation. China views making profits from the Chinese market as a form of exploitation. China will welcome the transfer of auto technology and building of modern plants, but once GM starts selling in the Chinese market, profits will likely shrivel under burdensome restrictions and theft of technology, ideas, and designs. "History is Bunk." - Henry Ford

Jim Cramer needs to find the tallest building in America, and jump. Corperate greed is killing the working man. I work at Caterpillar, and the UAW is still strong, because Caterpillar makes the best organizer for the UAW. Caterpillar treats its employees like dirt, thank God for UNIONS. It amazing no one ever complains about the CEO and managers, who are the rich fat cats who are destroying the middle class.
Unions and corporate greed are 2 separate issues. petition your government to place salary caps on CEOs. Don't forget athletes, too. Unions were formed for 3 reasons. Safety, job security, and wage & benifits. In 2008, it is in the company's best interest to promote safety. It reduces insurance costs and a safe record is marketable. Job security? HA! Grow up. Wages/benefits? union wages now start in the low teens, barely above average. MARKET EQULIBRIUM.pay a dollar more for 1st pick at labor.
Totally true. These UAW I are like a damn pest for big companies specially GM. GM most get rid of United Auto Workers. The only reason GM is loosing money is because of them. This affect the country a lot. As company GM is selling like crazy but they are not profitable because of the blood suckers UAW and the government doesn't help.
I don't know what country you are in,but when it comes to GM the union hasn't held up anything. All you have to do is look at Flint and that was in the 80's,and the spin-off treatment of Delphi workers isn't much better. GM in Ohio 10 yrs ago was the #1 employer with 63,000 now they employ 12,000 and Wal-Mart is #1 in Ohio with 54,000.

GM, still the largest ensuring company in the world. The funny thing is that; GM makes more money than even GE. However, the revenues become losses.
So UAW win, many people loose their jobs anyways. You hurt the company that pays you, WELL go to hell. People get stuck up about being an American and think they deserve more... Well wake up, there is a global economy others can do it too, for much less.
YES!!! The UAW stifles american business. With globalization of products comes globablization of wage. face it. The times have changed. Plants are highly mobile. 40 yrs ago you could strike because it wasn't pracitical (feesible) to move huge bulky machinery or to build new plants. The union causes bureacratic red tape causing additional unecessary spending for companies. The UAW sucks.
no. parents were dirt poor. I am not rich either. And I work in a factory that is choked by a union, so I am not flapping my jaw about things I am not directly familiar with. My parents provided a house full of love, so yes, we did feel rich. We never dwelled on how poor we were.
Quoting Jim Cramer on the Colbert Report after his performance on the mortgage meltdown, "I don't want the govt to bailout anybody who is making a lot of money, I'm more concerned with the kind of Tom Joad, you know, like Grapes of Wrath thing." "There are going to be forgotten people and I do not want them forgotten." WHAT A LYING, SELF-SERVING PIECE OF WORK MR. CRAMER REALLY IS. Just another Wallstreet SCHILL.
I liked your commentary piece on the UAW/Jim Cramer video. You did a good job of both pointing out his inconsistencies and his real motives, in his own words. If you have not already seen the videos itulipdotcom has done on Cramer subprime loan hypocrisy, you might want to check them out. You can find them under the YT searches: Jim Cramer Flip Flops on Housing - and - Central bank bailout follows 10 years of regulatory failure
GM's debt rating is in junk bond territory. Probability of default is extremely high. Detroit leads the nation in foreclosures and declines in home prices.
CAT is an excellent company and they will continue to bust the unions that currently exist in their plants... Why? because the UAW protects lazy and incompetent people. Eventually the UAW is what will destroy the UAW.
Yes victor!!! you are correct. I am NON UNION at at a plant choked by the UAW
Sounds like Cramer is more concerned with making money of GM stock as opposed to a worker being able to feed their family. When it comes down to it, I believe family comes first ABOVE money.

Union took concessions and the stock is at $30. Mr Cramer GM was a stronger product when they took better care of there workers

if it weren't for unions these places could be run much more efficiently because in a union there is NO incentive to work hard. for 1 promotions are all seniority based and 2 because of the union the company can't fire you for being a shitty worker(within reason). i work in a factory that is unionized....i see how lazy alot of the workers are every day.

Absolutely,
unions have completely fucked GM and Chrysler.

DonJack1776 2 years ago
As radio host Micheal Savage likes to say;
"I'll never understand why the union never picketed the white house etc. to have high tariffs put on those foreign model cars?"
ophachew 2 years ago
GM is in the tank because the UAW is over paid and under worked. Any concessions they take now are simply too little, too late. Their, "work 2 hours, get paid for eight hours, something for nothing" (not to mention the do nothing job banks) mentality has bankrupted GM.
ophachew 2 years ago
Well because the white house cant avoid globalization. If we continue paying like $70+/hour to UAW, then we don't deserve to make a car here. + If we increase tariffs, other economies wont sit quietly, specially the developing ones.

The US is a business dominated society.
The one counter measure the working class has is the labor movement.
bwy0874 2 years ago
The union is bullshit!! All they do is take your money and help out the trouble makers. If you do your job right you don't need a union so why pay? big3 workers are overpaid and think they rule the world. Let's see who can get a job without knowing somebody on the inside.

The so called "skill" required to perform most of this work can be learned by almost anyone in weeks.

gregjr36 3 years ago 3
It's the people with ambition to create something better that make this country great. They have the right to get rich for providing what people are willing to pay for. The workers have the right to 'just a fair' wage. $40+/hr on the assembly line is robbery. People are willing to do those job for less than half of that. The unions prevent competition for those jobs and making it hard for the manufacturers to compete with imports. You can not have quality and value without competition.

People are living off the states(tax) because their are rich greedy CEO. Why don't you complain about people living off of welfare or overpaid congressmen, lobbyist, and actors. If you hate Unions so bad, give your Union job, benifits, insurance, and vacation to someone who wants to be Union. Falsehood.

greg,
what about union greed and corruption? face it dude, the story of the American labor movement and the Mob and crooked democratic politicians are one in the same. just ask Jimmy Hoffa
claymatthewcampbell 3 years ago
They are making $7 because it's not hard to find people with that skill level to do those jobs. Supply and demand.
It would be stupid to pay people $40/hr to stock shelves or $75/hr to build crappy cars. See Consumer Reports.

If they move jobs for cheaper labor, we are being sold out.Why don't you complain about CEO.
gregjr36 3 years ago
36, you nailed it! The real problem is with over-inflated salaries. No human is worth a million dollars, not CEO, Athletes, or anyone. Voters should insist on a politician who will cap salaries and hold them accountable. All the nation should unite for that reason. If you've read my comments you will know that I am non-union at a FACTORY that is choked by the union. Do a youtube search...STRIKE, or Unions scabs, or whatever you like. Unions are dead, check your premise. thanks for your reply!
lagavulin001 3 years ago

UAW ROCKS

Exactly!

GM stocks dropped like a ROCK. It's at $10.
Thanks UAW!

1ckrebs 4 years ago

WTF!!

Cramer is a Wild Man. I like that in todays ultra conservative, politically sensitive, law suit happy world!!!
carsbyjeff 4 years ago
Jim Cramer needs to find the tallest building in America, and jump. Corperate greed is killing the working man. I work at Caterpillar, and the UAW is still strong, because Caterpillar makes the best organizer for the UAW. Caterpillar treats its employees like dirt, thank God for UNIONS. It amazing no one ever complains about the CEO and managers, who are the rich fat cats who are destroying the middle class.
gregjr36 4 years ago
Unions and corporate greed are 2 separate issues. petition your government to place salary caps on CEOs. Don't forget athletes, too. Unions were formed for 3 reasons. Safety, job security, and wage & benifits. In 2008, it is in the company's best interest to promote safety. It reduces insurance costs and a safe record is marketable. Job security? HA! Grow up. Wages/benefits? union wages now start in the low teens, barely above average. MARKET EQULIBRIUM.pay a dollar more for 1st pick at labor.

unions should be abolished

Go Jim Go! I say move to another location and bust the UAW. The UAW is nothing more than an organization to protect the lazy and incompetent.
victortango1 4 years ago

Well, making sucky cars for a while did not help.
Live is hard isn't it?

Your parents must be rich.
canuckdeerhunter26 3 years ago
no. parents were dirt poor.

CAT is an excellent company and they will continue to bust the unions that currently exist in their plants... Why? because the UAW protects lazy and incompetent people. Eventually the UAW is what will destroy the UAW.
