Although this may be a bit inferior to other productions, watch the lead dancer on the right at about 0:20, at least she's trying to put some fire into this.
Truly sorry, but this may be the most lackluster dancing I've ever seen on a professional stage. Either the PSM and Captain failed to give notes or the Choreographer thought this was okay. The choreography itself is fine...but the performance is dreadful. Sloppy, haphazard and it's not Danced, it's merely Done.
Unfortunately I'm seeing this kind of thing more and more. This number is iconic, not supposed to be ironic. Turkey Lurkey time isn't supposed to be a Turkey of a number.
@stevenwishnoff This is even better than the most recent Broadway productions version of this song. That terrible piece of rubbish makes me ashamed I even want to be on Broadway. It's just dreadful.
truly sorry but that is the most lackluster dance I've ever seen. Perhaps I'm spoiled having seen the original where every movement was precision sharp. Feet were placed, arms struck out, each movement was deliberate, fluid and DANCED not just done. Unfortunately this is a trend I'm seeing... either no one is setting things properly, PSMs and Captains aren't giving notes, or it was intended to look sloppy.
So I guess we surmise that people were just a helluva lot more talented 42 years ago than now. I'm sorry but that is just downright sad next to the original. Watch the 1968 version (look for the version by the user ohbutyes for the highest quality).
@phlashba Encores! shows usually do 4 or so performances in a concert staging. It's by no means a full production, so of course the dancing isn't going to measure up to the original...but this is pretty damn good for a concert staging of the show.
toad455, do you really think so? about the number being screwed up in the revival, i mean. i saw it a few weeks ago in new york and thought the number was great; one of my favorite points in the show. then again i'm biased because this number has been my favorite in promises, promises for years.
The lead dancer is so inferior. And did they set the Encore production later in the 60's? These skirts are way too short for the original time period.
It's obviously staged by someone who knows the Bennett choreography, but oh it's just so limp compared to Donna and the girls. Don't logout without watching the 1968 Tonys performance, boys! I think it's just about the greatest bit of show dancing there is. (When is it going to be made available in an adequate copy???)
@me3054 Well, you have to understand that Encores! has a VERY limited rehearsal period-about a week long. This is actually pretty great choreography considering that they had a week to learn and stage the ENTIRE show.
an admirable try

Why in the world did they take out the figure 8?
Thats probably the best part!

Sloppy :(

I like it -- I didn't realize the Encores! series even did this much staging, I thought Encores! was more or less just a reading of the score

That's not office attire....even if they're at a holiday party.

@stevenwishnoff And I mean that in an "At least this is better than..." way, rather than a "Wow! This is even better than..." way. Haha!

@perfectlymarvelous My mistake. I misunderstood and thought this was from the cast of the Broadway revival.

at least their choreographer got the point. Rob Ashford screwed up this number big time in the current revival.

@CottonBlossom1 i like this. amazing that it was learnt and rehearsed in a week. oh my!
and the tempo is right, refreshingly. the current revival production gets the tempo all wrong, slowing it down waaaay too much.
