This is definitely one of the best time lapses I have come across so far of Monarch butterfly. I was looking for information regarding shooting these little beauties as I have access to a tropical butterfly farm nearby and would like to experiment shooting some of these, did extensive searches and nothing was coming up worthwhile, until I hit your site.
Fantastic footage and stunning work. Will be looking forward to going through all your clips now :)
Thank you so much. I'm an Episcopal priest, and--as we say in the business--"this will preach"! It's utterly beautiful, and a perfect thing to contemplate in the Easter season, too. Blessings to you for doing this work and sharing it.
Neil, cool video! By far one of the time lapse videos that I've seen and the music fit well. Made me think of the up coming spring season and how I look forward to it.
@TheWwweee No I use Nikon D 300 camera body and Nikkor lenses. Cannon are very good but I happen to use Nikon. Under the time-lapse screen there's 'see more' where I've added info about my sequences. Best wishes
@dogbreath34 It can take several days for the pupa case to go from green to transparent. It only takes less than a minute for the butterfly to emerge and then a further several hours before the wings have expanded fully and hardened enough for the butterfly to fly away.
@TheWwweee I think that for this piece of music they have used 'Pendulum' as the same of the tune. It's copyright free on Youtube when you want to add music to your work you want to upload to Youtube. If you do, look Add Audio then in Classical music and then by the persons name. You should be able to find it there.. Good luck. Neil
@webiocosm Thank you. I'm still trying to get single clean shot of the Monarch emerging. The conditions have to be just right otherwise the butterflies don't emerge properly. With this sequence the butterfly fell off so I had to place it back on the pupa skin to let it pump it's wings.
Amazing and truly beautiful. Thank you, Neil, for sharing this with the world!

Beautiful video. I wonder how long the emergence takes. A few hours presumably?

Wow! I find the chrysalis changing colour before emergence, and then the pumping up of the wings amazing! A great image of new life.
