i have an old swhinn bike i found it and i got to buy it it took some time to paint and restor all the original parts! it beats all the bmx's on the block!
@nimbuw I ride unicycles. On some of our "cruises" I take the unicycle with a set of handlebars and a front wheel in hand so it looks like I am riding a swingbike until you notice there is no frame. haha
@MrBrandonbennningto1 we stopped making them for other people a while back. we are now making little ones for kids. Our prices ranged from 300-600. If you want to make your own and can do your own welding, let us know and we will help you find the parts you need.
my dad used to work for swingbike way back in the day. I have a bunch in the shed out back of his house in utah....... any idea what they are worth now days?
@ripbluerip original swingbikes are hard to come by. especially in original (good) shape. It all depends on the market (demand). I would expect to get anywhere from 300 to 600 per bike (same as what we were bringing in per bike).
@Skythe84 i went out to my dads house because i finaly cleared a spot in my shed to put them all.....and they were all gone. I am so pissed off. no one can explain were they went but i think my dad threw them away. He even got rid of all the spare parts.
@MrScreeemo Try Ebay. search for swingbike. You can also email impala66k@hotmail.com He has several frames that are almost exact copies of the originals and good quality.
They aren't real complex. How detailed do you want? An original swingbike had a 39" wheelbase axle to axle. These two have a 49" wheelbase. 20" rear fork and wheel. 26" front fork and 16" wheel. You will want the steerer tube for the rear fork to be tipped forward at the top some, but almost vertical. You will want the crank to be level or slightly lower than the rear axle. This will help make it stable. The seat post is basically a stem or gooseneck with an extention for the seat to bolt onto.
@speedman480 A guess would be about $200 per frame, but you will have to email impala66k@hotmail.com for an accurate price quote. It could be more or less. I think he is planning on painting some of them. I was including headset bearings he might not. They would be shipped from Utah.
i noticed the guy riding backwards at one point in the video but it coasts in other parts. can this bike go both directions but coast as well? or did he just get pushed backwards. or did they reverse the video?
@megamindstorm101 I was coasting backwards. I kept my feet on the pedals so I wouldn't look even dumber with my feet off the pedals and the pedals swinging around. If I let my feet hang I can coast backward as long as there is a hill. I have ridden that orange bike I sent you a picture of backward for 1/4 mile or more.
If you build it yourself with old parts and can find scrap metal cheap, maybe $50-100. I have built much nicer bikes that have sold for $500+, but the bikes in this video were built using 98% recycled metal and bike parts from a metal recycling plant. The cables were the only things I had to buy new.
Where would we be without Bicycles? Of ANY type. Swing or not. Those bikes in the vid are awesome. Rather odd...but I don't think them to be as odd as "The Wheel", put out by Huffy, and I THINK Western Flyer back in the last 60s.
my uncle has an original that me and my cousin both made a copy from. we learned on the original and to be honest if you rode one that the center bar was not bent and the rear tire has the centering spring takin off the ride is alot better. Change the bars to BMX bars and it will ride better. Five star rims make a difference too.
I can ride mine no hands (it swings away from centre, unlike the originals), but I tried an original once and it was tough. Bars stretched too far forward.
lol at mantaz808 dont you have anything better to do,these guys do a great job,and they are extremely helpful,,,keep it up guys,,,and thanks for the hand drawn plans,,,cheers richard
you guys are not the best swivel bike riders and you dont make the best swivel bikes you guys just think your the best cause you neva see everyones swivel bike yet im not saying im the best but i sure can own you guys hawaiian style liven in da 808 and my swievl bike looks way better and works better then yours
Thanks Guys! I guess it kind-of is like a unicycle with an outrigger. It's a LOT faster and easier to ride than a unicycle though. A five speed unicycle could be interesting...or dangerous.
where can i get once??
not the same but look at this ride..
