ok, the people who are complaining about then whipping the horse with the end of the reins have to get over it! I ride western and if you don't realize that they don't do it all the time and that that is the only way to make some horses gallop down the straightaway. If you want to go complain about horses getting whipped go watch steeple chasing or horse racing those horses get whipped almost all the way through the race, thogh i have nothing against english riding. I have friends who ride that.

Wow.. Complain about misconceptions and spread them yourself! Horses in racing are not whipped the entire race ... They are whipped near the end to encourage them to keep going fast to the wire as they start to tire. >.>

I pulled a thoroughbred off the Del Mar race track in Ca. He was 17.1 hands tall and could spin on a dime. I NEVER kicked him, although I didn't see anything wrong with that. He just ran when he could and you had to hang on for dear life. Won a lot against better qualified quarter horses. Horses get used to bats and dull to spurs- there are ways to keep 'em fresh without all the gear.

Awesome Video! Tammy Key had a nice run over-all. One thing I noticed that could be changed is the tie down. It should be long enough that if the horse is level headed it can be pulled up to its neck with a little extra slack. The way she has it, is where there isnt enough slack so as her horse tries to stretch out to a longer stride leaving third the noseband is tapping the horses nose and shortening the stride. Great runs!

I don't ride western I ride english but I rarely use a crop and the purpose for that is if you have a horse that is hard to get going a little motivation if using all the leg you got isn't working. we don't whip them where it cuts them just minor taps one time I regret using it but I had to this one horse I was riding refused to turn left no matter how much leg I was giving and how how much I was clucking and loose rein I tried to be gentle with the crop but 2 good whacks and he got the message.

People are crazy! If you want to complain about whipping go watch the kentucky derby where the horses are whipped down the entire home stretch.... and you think they aren't trying their hearts out. Its the name of the game. THEY ARE HORSES NOT DOGS. Go watch two horses bite and kick each other in pasture if you really want to see brutal. GREAT VIDEO! Makes me want to barrel race again! :)

Ok people seriously?!?! EVERYONE that rides a horse kicks it! You can not make it go without kicking it. I barrel race and I kick and whip my horses because they need it. They will not give it their all if I do not kick and whip my horses. NO MATTER what equistrian dicipline you do you are going to kick your horse, the only way to get them to do what you ask them to do. GET OVER IT.

Ive been barrel racing since i was little even tho im only 11 ive still won alot ive never whipped or rode with spurs on my barrel horse he just reacts to kicking and smooching and he is still very fast.. theree is nothing wrong with whipping except the only thing i hate is when people go out and THEY NOT THE HORSE mess up and then they whip there horses for something they didnt do .. it wld b diff if they did sumthin wrong .. somehorses react to diff things lets leave it at that!!

Okay... let's get something straight here people. There is nothing wrong with whipping/kicking the horse. This is a speed event, so people do whatever they can to get the fastest time. Some horses won't give it their all unless pushed. I know this because I run 2 horses. One horse will not respond to kicking but will with whipping, the other is the opposite. There is however, a point that is considered abuse but abuse is NOT shown in this video & hardly ever does it happen in pro barrel racing.

those times rn't NOTHING!!!!! my friends and i always run between a 14.1 and a 14.8 and the pattern is regular size,IT IS NOT SMALL!!!!!!! we even have a huge arena and we use it. we dont cheat and make out pattern small. it's at our rodeo circut. and the opattern is regular size and we r normal teensgers running rodeos. we will be famous 1 day. when were older!!:)

She did nothing wrong, it was bigger pen and so her time was slower. Not the same pen, and different race. You must not know how barrel racing goes becaus kicking a whipping makes your horse go. Its just a part of it.

I like the vidoe but I ran at the ANHA 2007....I watched Tammy Keys run and it was a big issue because they stopped the clock before she even passed it!! And they said her time was a 16.8....there is no freaking way since she blew off every barrel! That run right there caused alot of people to not come back due to cheating! You should have heard the crowd when they clock stopped before she even passed the timer! Lots of angry people and yelling!
