Our Sun Conure, Chewy, used to be a super-sweet cuddlebug. Then he turned 5 and got all hormonal, and we've never been able to make him stop acting like a swooping, bloodthirsty vampire. We still love his little self!
@1dianaslasso If you clip his wings he may calm down. I give Kiwi a moderate clip which still allows him to fly but not to gain altitude. When he's fully flighted he becomes territorial..still lovable but more stubborn.
Super adorable. I love the sun conures. I know my friend had one and you couldn't touch her while he was out of the cage cause he'd go into attack mode but the moment he was on the ground he became the sweetest little thing.
@rufiebooz we paid $250 for Kiwi but that was 8 years ago...so I'm sure they cost more now. Kiwi is an only bird and very happy..but we give him alot of attention. TY for all the XXXXXXX for Kiwi :-)
@rufiebooz Sun conures are about $600 at pet stores. Green cheek conures are $350. But be prepared to shell out almost as much for cage, toys playground, treats. Also vet bills when necessary. Parrots are a significant financial commitment. Don't get one if you're not willing to spend the money on them.
@countrybabe561 very untrue my friend, while parakeets are smaller they can be taught just as many tricks are soo much fun while it is true bigger birds are a bit more noticable when u make videos or if u go outside with them but honestly if your a bird lover, any type of bird is awesome in thier own way just check out this video with this guy and his as you say "boring"parakeets /watch?v=fkN_dtP2i-w and if u think those birds are boring then ur crazy
My Sun Conure Skittles is exactly like that, I always thought that the leg in the mouth as though they are sucking a thumb was awesome. She gets very relaxed and the eyes flutter just ilk yours. Had mine since she was 12 weeks.

Mine does the same thing. Except she's bossy. She pushes my face out of the way to snuggle her beak into my neck. Then all I feel is her hot breath until her Majesty decides she's finished sleeping. All this while holding her foot like a child sucking its thumb. It's amazing what we let her get away with LOL.

@scenethelite not really sure what to tell you. I've had Kiwi since he was a baby. It's prob. going to be harder for you seeing that they have "issues" poor things...but they're lucky now to have found a good, forever, home.
@scenethelite I have been working with our Sun Conure, and our female Grey, using positive reinforcement. If they let me touch them without biting, they get a treat. I continually reinforce with words in a happy tone of voice like "Good bird! No biting! Very good!". I have gotten the Grey to accept a lot more petting, and the conure has even let me put my fingers under his wings for short moments. It takes time and patience. Best of luck with your new babies! minuman. how old is ur sun? sometimes when they hit that hormone stage it can cause a drastic change in there .personality, but also any kind of change from then normal can increase this. also if he is really aggressive u might want to take him in for a check up to make sure he isnt sick or something.. sometimes birds display aggression as a sign of not feeling well. hope it gets better...

Just keep calm n talk to him more. Let him come out of the cage on his own wen you talk to him. N reward him for behaviors you want to keep happening. Comes out wen called, treat. Steps onto ur hand wen told, treat. etc.

For my conure I don't have to cut her flight feathers in fact it's better if I don't because when I do she thinks she can still fly and realizes she can't then gets aggressive and/or hurts herself by running into things. She loves flying. Give your conure more attention and don't have it locked in a cage all day, mine hates being in her cage so we keep her door open.
I had one a while ago, and she loved to cuddle with me. I miss her so much. They're some of the sweetest birds, but they can also bite. She never bit me, but she went after my parents a couple times.

I just got my sun 2 months ago, seen ur video a few weeks ago and so wanted to get my conure to do this; thanks SOO MUCH for making this video! My Skittles is now cuddling like that and loves belly rubs. Skittles will hold onto my finger with his talon and stretch out his head. LOL. He gets 'finicky' though, the belly rubs have to be done just right and aren't done until he SAYS SO. LOL. I haven't begun potty training yet, but he doesn't poop on me no more, he goes to his cage most of the time.
Even though it's a Conure, he reminds me of the budgy I once had named Juliet...she was absolutely the sweetest creature I have ever met, and would cuddle, give kisses, follow me into the kitchen when I went to make dinner, even sit on my shoulders when I would shower (she loved it), and would investigate whatever I was eating or drinking, then hop onto the cup or bowl and attempt to try some for herself. It's been years since I lost her and I still remember that amazing bird!
@OapJo Ours was the gentlest creature never bit anyone and was so lovely. We had macaws, ringnecks other lorrikeets and a Moluccan and never had a bite out of sunny and a neighbour had one too and was just the sweetest gentlest thing too. I would love another one.

ugh..i miss mine sooo much, his name was oscar. he was attacked by the dog 2 days ago. it was just one of those freak accidents. me and my mom went to go take care of the horses and i guess my door didnt latch.

@LoAfXD Same here. My bird choked on a toy and i was so attached to it and used it it. Everytime id get home from school he would be very loud. Now i just hear silence. I know that he is still in my heart :)
@LoAfXD Oh, i remember my own parrot. I liked about him one special moment. He never screamed in the mornings. I never closed his cage as well. And when he was tired of being quiet (i was sleeping), he just came to me and started to chew my hair, or picking my nose, ears, until i said "good morning!" to him ))
@OapJo Mine does it to mimic me. it's something she picked up from watching me mimic my dad feeling his beard lol. We've had her a long time and that was the first time she ever did it.
I had Kiwi dna tested...simple to do...send 4-5 feathers off to the lab and they mail you the results. You have to pull the feathers off his neck area..which I wasn't crazy about doing.
But I've heard if their head is flat then most likely it's a male...and Kiwi's head is very flat.
We have 6 feathered children (parrots) and I love the shirt you are wearing. I laughed when I saw your video. It is sad to say that I have only 2 shirts in my wardrobe that don't have holes in them.

@OapJo I have been looking for ways to train my sun conure online and they all want me to pay or say theyre free but they're not.. do you have any recommendations? maybe a book or a website? my sun conure used to love cuddling and then he went through puberty and got to be a little bit of a rascal. i think he is done puberty now but needs to be retrained (didnt realize it was puberty and thought he hated me for a while :( )
with my bird it would bite you if you touched its wings but it lets you touch its belly and when you say turn over it turns over! also when you say play dead and leave a flower there it grabs the flower in its mouth and lays on its bac kinda like the first one though but my fav one is when you say stay and it stays even if you go out for half an hour it stays it might go and get food or water but it goes bac to were it was standing but if you go out for a long time it leaves the spot and plays
it reminds of my indian ring necked bird, Coco. he loved snuggling up against my neck. Oh, i think im going to cry. it's been over a year since he died, but i still get teary thinking of him.

also make sure u do not cut blood feathers. if any feather u are cutting has a blue folicle it can cause them to bleed. so please use caution...

I just got my sun 2 months ago, seen ur video a few weeks ago and so wanted to get my conure to do this; thanks SOO MUCH for making this video! My Skittles is now cuddling like that and loves belly rubs. Skittles will hold onto my finger with his talon and stretch out his head. LOL. He gets 'finicky' though, the belly rubs have to be done just right and aren't done until he SAYS SO. LOL. I haven't begun potty training yet, but he doesn't poop on me no more, he goes to his cage most of the time.

Even though it's a Conure, he reminds me of the budgy I once had named Juliet...she was absolutely the sweetest creature I have ever met, and would cuddle, give kisses, follow me into the kitchen when I went to make dinner, even sit on my shoulders when I would shower (she loved it), and would investigate whatever I was eating or drinking, then hop onto the cup or bowl and attempt to try some for herself. It's been years since I lost her and I still remember that amazing bird!

yes, Kiwi loves to chew on shirts, so when he's on me I put on special, "birdie shirts" that he can chew on.

@OapJo Ours was the gentlest creature never bit anyone and was so lovely. We had macaws, ringnecks other lorrikeets and a Moluccan and never had a bite out of sunny and a neighbour had one too and was just the sweetest gentlest thing too. I would love another one.

@OapJo LOL on the shirt! I had a Quaker who did the same thing... he'd try to get the plastic "stiffeners" out of my shirt collars. I had a few "bird shirts" with lots of holes. Nice job gettin' cuddles.

ugh..i miss mine sooo much, his name was oscar. he was attacked by the dog 2 days ago. it was just one of those freak accidents. me and my mom went to go take care of the horses and i guess my door didnt latch.
hed always do this thing when u laughed hed bob his head up and down really fast, and he just started to come over to my bed in the morning and wake me up lol. :/
you know i never thought ide get so attactched to a bird.

@LoAfXD Same here. My bird choked on a toy and i was so attached to it and used it it. Everytime id get home from school he would be very loud. Now i just hear silence. I know that he is still in my heart :)

@LoAfXD Oh, i remember my own parrot. I liked about him one special moment. He never screamed in the mornings. I never closed his cage as well. And when he was tired of being quiet (i was sleeping), he just came to me and started to chew my hair, or picking my nose, ears, until i said "good morning!" to him ))

@OapJo Mine does it to mimic me. it's something she picked up from watching me mimic my dad feeling his beard lol. We've had her a long time and that was the first time she ever did it.

I had Kiwi dna tested...simple to do...send 4-5 feathers off to the lab and they mail you the results. You have to pull the feathers off his neck area..which I wasn't crazy about doing.
But I've heard if their head is flat then most likely it's a male...and Kiwi's head is very flat.

We have 6 feathered children (parrots) and I love the shirt you are wearing. I laughed when I saw your video. It is sad to say that I have only 2 shirts in my wardrobe that don't have holes in them.

just wanted to know one thing. how long have u had your kiwi for and at what age did u get him. cuz i have a green cheek conure and hes about 1 now. And he just seems so alert. it was and still sometimes is hard to get him to lay on his back, its like hes just really hyper. So i wanted to know a little bit about yours. I know sun conures are different and all. But I was wandering if i could expect him to calm down once he gets older. Thanks so much

@OapJo I have been looking for ways to train my sun conure online and they all want me to pay or say theyre free but they're not.. do you have any recommendations? maybe a book or a website? my sun conure used to love cuddling and then he went through puberty and got to be a little bit of a rascal. i think he is done puberty now but needs to be retrained (didnt realize it was puberty and thought he hated me for a while :( )

with my bird it would bite you if you touched its wings but it lets you touch its belly and when you say turn over it turns over! also when you say play dead and leave a flower there it grabs the flower in its mouth and lays on its bac kinda like the first one though but my fav one is when you say stay and it stays even if you go out for half an hour it stays it might go and get food or water but it goes bac to were it was standing but if you go out for a long time it leaves the spot and plays

Yes. They tend to bond to one person, ususally of the opposite sex, then they become incredibly protective of their human or chosen 'mate.

CJ (sun conure as well) enjoys hanging out in shirts.. but also enjoys making her own doors to them.. people always think I need new shirts, but no.. they are (or atleast become) bird shirts.. amazing how once again things that are so cute and loveable are evil and destructive haha I love the birds

Hubbie's lost alot more than me, our church shirts we call them - they're all holy. We have 3 conures so you can imagine.
ANYWAY - Kiwi makes me want to reach out and tickle him, Gosh he's beautiful. I love it when my girls put their feet up like that, I tickle their feet too!

I used to need one of those, but my sun conure, Bo, does not make holes anymore. Does lots of chewing, though.
He's welcome to make a hole any time he wants to.
