After the Greeks had their little escapade on German troops, Germany showed their appreciation by rounding up the citizens and had them shot and if Hitler hadn't of been in charge of the war, we would all be speaking German right now!

My father and four uncles fought there. All felt the shame of defeat. :( My father said there were some German paratroops, but that they were all killed as they landed on top of them. My father felt very sorry for the poor Germans. He thought paratroops were defenceless, as the defenders could hide behind rocks. Eventually the defenders were told by leaflets dropped from aircraft to evacuate. My father had to swim out to the open sea, and HMS Ajax picked him up by nets at full battle speed.

How ironic that one of the most feared regime in the world history has left so many inspirations in movies (Gladiator, Star Wars Apocalypse now) sports ( The olympic torch from Olimpia to City of Games) and modern warfare (shape of kevlar helmets in USA & Italy)

Pretty much Nazi Germany was all about weapon design and research. In many ways they were well above everyone else's game, which is rather impressive. The big mistake though was starting the second world war way too early. I think even Hitler had originally wanted his war to begin in the mid to late 40's, not 1939.
