No one has to ask... that match was obviously tiring and nail-biting for both players. Imagine after ripping the ball 5 times with good topsin down the line and it keeps coming back with backspin and the same all over again. Both players are indeed magnificent to watch, absolutely brilliant and masters of their discipline

You're wrong, defense is good at some times..it will get you somewhere..but you have to switch from offense at times aswell..

In this match, i felt Joo stood out the most for me..Ma long was incredible but Joo's defense was beautiful

wow ma long is too good.. you can see when hes down to 6-10 last set that hes playing with his cool really concentrated, for each point he won after that he didnt cho once! until the last point ofc TOO GOOD!!

oh in a way it is: it´s all about the probability who will win the next point, and the odds for ma for winning four points in a row in this very close match weren´t too high, were they? It wasn´t luck only, but to an extent it was.

Ma Long has a great understanding of placement during an intense rally, what a wonderful match, they both deserved to win! I noticed Ma sent a lot of attacks to Joo's forehand forcing the weaker chop.

I beg to differ. Ma Long and Joo have played alot in the past 3 years. It's always been close between them. I don't think that Joo will let him slip too far out of reach. Joo plays his style at a level that the chinese can really only match with Hou Yingchao. So they don't get to practice for him the way they can for most others.

Ma Long is a solid player with great fundamentals, footwork, and most importantly, his mental game. He should have a good chance of rising to world #1.

What separates Joo from most other choppers is that he can counter attack with efficacy aside from normal chopping. It really catches people off guard and allows him to win a lot of points. The fact that he almost beat Ma illustrates this clearly.

no, you`re wrong.... almost of the points joo`s made was atacking, because ma long is very consistent. the problem was that on those last points joo didn`t attacked on a good place, and ma long is very good on counter driving.

i was not talking just about the last points... his priority,his tactic for the game and for the whole tournament (see the game vs zhang jike too) was not counterlooping as he would 5 or 6 years ago... i think it worked better... thats my point... (((just imagine if he plays like this with this much chopping against a kreanga for example, he would lose 4 - 0))) and i dont want that for my player joose hyuk...

Yep, Joo definately should have won this. The funny thing is, i myself would have played the same strategies with 5 match points up. 1. try to get everything back, ok doesnt work, than at 10:8 try to force the point, doesnt work. 10-10 try to mix your game, which works, but he didnt could finish him, sadly, but this game again shows that modern defence is worth it. im very proud to call Joo my idol.
