A central New Jersey kid here who watched this show on Channel 17 on Saturdays! I remember when it was "Scream In," "Shock It To Me," "Mad Theater" and "Horror Theater!" Good times indeed! Thanks for posting!
Joe "Dr. Shock" Zawislak was my hero growing up and I've never lost my admiration for him. He made a nerdy boy who never fit in see something good in himself and think maybe I wasn't such a lost cause. That may seem weird but it's true. Seeing him "work" again meant so much to me! Thank you TMDr for bringing this my way.
Ohmigod, I was a kid when this was on in Philadelphia and after the 11:00PM news at 11:30 would stay up to see this intro. Thank You so much for posting it. What a fond memory.
i once met Dr. Shock at the St. Christopher's Hospital for Children's open heart surgery alumni picnic in 1973,my father arranged for him to be there, i even assisted in one of his tricks. it was a moment i will always remember and traesure as long as i live.
Remember Boris had a ping pong ball eye, and always said "Yes Love" after getting wacked by Dr Shock with the rubber chicken? Boris was actuall Dr Shock ( Joe Zawislak's) brother. I saw him at the King of Prussia Plaza (1973), and still think of him everytime I see Black Cherry soda at the store, although it is not BOOTH'S Black Cherry Wishniak !! LOL
Boris was the first openly gay TV character. He was always prancing around calling Dr. Shock "Love." Me and my friends would just roll on the floor cracking up. I mean really, a gay zombie?
Holy smokes! Thanks so much for posting this. I loved Dr. Shock as a kid growing up in Philly. Love the Dark Shadows music opening this segment too!!!!
There was a tribute show compiled and hosted by Rick Fox on WPHL CH 17. It was not available to the public to buy. I got a copy. and transferred a bit of it to share here.
Great stuff! Very happy to re-visit the old days. I've subbed and hope you can share more clips. Rick Fox? (From the Fox and Leonard Morning Show on 94 WYSP?) What happened to those guys?
