  • excellent job!!

  • can you like to your transcription? I'd like to study it.

  • Great job!! This is probabely the best rhytm changes solo ever. I guess you learned a lot learning it!

  • Mindblowing !

    You're great

  • Realyyy greeeeaaaat work master!!!!!

    Congrats!!!!!

  • i was in school w/ Brad at the time of this gig. i saw how his style develpoed. first he sounded like wynton kelly, then keith, then he developed his own sound.

i'll tell you a secret, Brad got much of his style from his good friend peter berstein.

i can sing back this solo note for note, never tried to play it, im not that crazy!

  • all right! great job. Thanks. I'll show it to my students to inspire them in transcribing.

    keep up the great job!

  • holy shit! i cant believe you did that. i went to school w/ Brad at the time of that recording. i can sing back the solo note for note, but you are, well... how long did it take you to do that?

  • @stevebr551

thanks for the comment - i had a lot of fun transcribing and

learning to play this solo, which took about a month altogether,

although I was working on a lot of other stuff at the same

time - this solo was part of a project i undertook for my

masters degree called "Who could ask for anything more?:

Exploding the traditional harmonic boundaries of rhtyhm

changes" - have posted a bunch of other " out" rhythm

    changes solos as well

  • thanks to all for posting such nice comments - glad you've enjoyed the video

for the record, the audio file is 87% of original tempo - practicing at 100% was killing me, with sharp pains between the 4th and 5th fingers of my right hand, so i dropped the tempo and saved my career

  • WOW!! Well done! I am absolutely obsessed with this track and you did an excellent job!

  • great work! really spectacular.

  • Yeah! great work!

I remember trancribing this solo when that first cd came out, i wish i could find the paper now! :)

The original tempo is so fast, but brand nailes it, i consider this version is a milestone

  • hey man what was the rhythm u got in the last A of the second chorus? cos its the typical triplet mehldauism but i cant seem to notate it. i learnt the solo a while ago at speed but that allowed me to cover up mistakes

  • Good work! This tempo is more enjoyable than the CD, especially to get all those rhythmic finesses.

Btw have you written this down? (Sibelius/Finale etc) I would be very interested if you are willing to share that.

    All the best!!

  • Nice Job. Been listening to quite a bit of Mehldau recently. Plays some good stuff on John Scofield' album 'Works for me' and his own trio album 'anything goes'. Look forward to more projects from you! : )

  • Nice, Gerry, nice.

  • Fantastic job Gerry!

    Very impressive
