  • Dave, how do you get video and audio quality that high? Your videos look pretty amazing.

    Thanks

  • Dave, a question .. with your years of experience, what do you think about the judge of people about who is the better guitarist? really do you think that exists the better guitarist?

  • There is a difference in skill levels, musicality, maturity, experience, but music is art.. not really to be judged.

  • Every sensible guitarist even if its him or Brian May would say the same, its all down to taste. Sure you can say Yngwie is the best in whatever techniqe he does but then again some would say Santana is the best at something (!!?). Brian May says he thinks Vai is a space age guitarist, but Brian May says his FAVORITE guitarst is Jeff Beck, he never said anyone was the best and I think you allready know this, or you wouldn't have asked. Im not slamming you, just replying. Cheers to a Vai fan.

  • This is great!!

Thanks for doing riffs in my skill level Dave!

  • haha new place?

  • HE Moved to L.A

  • isn't that what Vai did back in the day?

  • Really nice lesson Dave! I did notice one thing: I wanted to put some of your podcasts on my Ipod (because I wanted to watch em during class since whe don't do anything there anyway) but Itunes can't find your podcasts on the server :( Thought I'd drop by and say it, because you put the podcast thingy in the description box ;)

  • Wow, this was the first lesson of yours that I could actually do! Thank you for bringing it down 3 notches for us newbies.

    Dm

  • Love how you were using your right-hand fingers for this riff. Is that something you are focusing on more?

  • yeah, i love hybrid picking and not playing with a pick sometimes is so nice

  • very inspiring! Gives me something very useful to specifically work on.

  • Hey Dave thanks for the awesome lesson!

Just wondering if you could please do a lesson on how play and make vai riffs and licks(for the vai fans). if you could do that, it would be sweet!

    regards

  • I did a riff in the style of Vai, check the index.

  • This is what I have been doing, and trust me, it works SO well.

This is like one of the most important aspects of improvisation and sounding good.

  • didnt know you had a gold top...

    SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

  • weres the sevens?

  • nice intro! pearls of wisdom.

  • is this man with Vai??

  • Yea

  • Great lesson Dave =)

  • After watching you play Ibanez's for all these years, it's awesome watching you play a Gibson Les Paul. Both guitar's are practically orgasmic though, and so is this riff.

  • the new look in the intro is cool!

  • BEAUTIFUL gold top

  • Riffoftheweek website hasnt been updated since AUGUST! i cant get the tabs for ANY of these lessons!

  • yup, that's what moving and lots of work does. It'll be back to current soon.

  • cool

  • Firsty Dave, thanks for the lesson. I love the simplicity yet the practicality of it. Dying to buy the new album when you finish it ?

Any chance there will be any printed transcription books to buy in the near future. Im nowhere near even coming close to tabbing you by ear yet.

  • Amazing - Thanks for the whole riff of the week thing- it has helped my playing tremendously . \m/

  • awesome lesson dave..

  • thanks

  • awesome lesson dave as usual..

What is that song at the start and end of the vid??it sounds awesome!!!

  • Tourmaline of my first record. daveweiner . com / store

Intro and outro song info is in the credits of each vid.

  • A big thank you for your guitar lessons !

    It's so useful =)

  • The students at GIT are lucky as hel, they are going to be great thanks to you

  • :O MAZING¬¬

  • Dave, just curious and your gear page isn't on the site anymore, so what pickups are you using in the opening and closing song of this vid?

Sounds like a Tone Zone, but I wanna confirm if my ears are as good as I think they are!

  • Those are custom Dimarzios on the orange/black LACS 7

  • Just tell me you like the Tone Zone. I love this pickup and I respect your opinion enough to get your view on it.

Tone Zone = Dave stamp of approval?

  • I'd have to play it again. Been years.

  • Super helpful ! Thanks Dave !

  • Awesome as usual Dave! This was really helpful, hope teaching at GIT is going great! Hey man could you check out my cover of poker face, i actually learned the intro off one of your videos! Let me know what u think. Thanks...... colin \m/

  • OH MY GOSH.

like seriously this is the exact video i needed.

i'm working on my improvising and recently

i've realized how important lines and riffs are

and to constantly be writing more and more.

THANK YOU FOR RIFF OF THE WEEK.

  • Sometimes I will take a riff and re-design it using half and full step bends in place of a fretted note using vibrato and sustain. Feel each note you play.

  • Good to see you back. Hope you like the new pad. Nice Guitar too.
