I may have said this before but solid ride dude. don't let the crap flickers bother you they were there doing it last year to someone and there will be someone flicking next year. but they cant say the had the salt to make a board like you did. Go Canucks
great vid. Surfers really need to adjust their atitudes. Half I've talked to while globetrotting different locales have gone out of their way to be extremely shitty. Yea, your sport is hard as hell, but after hanging out with top-tier atheletes in rock climbing, kayaking, skiing, boarding etc, the unfortunate conclusion is too many in the sport go out of their way to fill their mental vacuum with shallow chest thumping. It is incredibly consistent. What gives?
cool vidio. I was trying to come up with a plan for a stand up board . the vent holes how deep and how many and where did you put them? Thanks for the vidio. P.S. never mind the lemon eating numb nuts.
Really interesting. I'm thinking about doing a similar thing to make a skimboard sized board for riding powder (see powsurf.com/Pages/Home.html but with a foam board...). I was thinking i would use fiberglass cloth as well as epoxy for the middle layer though. Would there be any benefit? Would it be a pain? I'd appreciate any opinion of yours very much. cheers.
How do you get the glass cut straight over the rails? I see a lot of these vids but not seeing how the glass gets a final cut for a straight line? Razor blades? But I also see the glass being curved over while wet with resin. . which would make it hard to cut for a straight line? Thanks. . .
Hey man I go to Northern Michigan University up in Marquette, I've been doing some reserach becasue i'm interested in making a surfboard also...i'm impressed with what ya did.....real niice man!
XPS is a closed cell foam. No holes needed. The problem with offgassing is when you shear these closed cells and during the heat aspect of glassing with epoxy the gass off leaks. different then EPS. roger?
horrible tail shape, terrible rail line. take your time. copy something that you know works.
did you consider drilling holes in the deck would weaken the overall strength of the board? essentially you have created weak points to allow the board to crack. if you are river surfing then no problem because you won't have tons of water crashing down on the board. my guess is that given time if it breaks it will be at one of the drill sites. there are cheaper and better ways, however you probably don't have access to the materials. i'll post what i'm currently making and the price.
Yeah - considered that, but the size of the holes are not much bigger than a pin, and there are not too many; just enough to vent the xps evenly.
As for huge waves crashing on it; the biggest I've had it in (on G-Bay) was about 3-4 feet. I drove it into the rocks twice, and not more than a scratch
Nice effort, although you do need a stringer. Don't care who says you don't but you do need it. If i took that board out to my local break it would snap in 5 mins.
It is quite sturdy and paddles nice. I was pretty stoked with how well it responded; albeit I only got up twice on it. I am waiting for October - when the Fall brings better waves.
Classic insecure punks, getting down on a guy for building his own board and sharing with people, u mofo's are sad and probably couldn't build an Ikea shelf, go back to what u usually are doing pissing people off in your non internet lives.
haha sorry dude I gotta agree with Crippleassasin, you dont seem to know a whole lot about surfing, and making an instructional video on how to build a board that is a discrace to surfboards isnt a good idea. however dont worry about what he said about turning your board and it flexing, because i doubt you've quite mastered the skill of turning without falling on your lake surfing ass
that was a good one, and she says hi. and she says not to spend $230 making a piece of crap board when you could make a perfect one with the right materials for the same price or less
I would expect to see more honor and respect from a young 'Toa' such as yourself. Harsh words are for the weak - let your actions be your mark of greatness. Your negative words mean nothing!
awesome vid dude! Some day I'm gonna make my own boards but I don't have that kind of money yet. I tried to follow the steps in step into liquid but its too complicated ur vid is betta thanks! :)
youtube comments...geez. shaping and creating is fun, gives you a chance to flex your imagination and such. ill be building a 'home-depot' board this summer, its good times seeing what you can make with 'low-grade' materials.
shaping boards is not an easy task...although it is fun..but remember it doesnt matter how you creation looks, its your creation and i think its great that people are making back yard boards, nothing beats pulling into a wave or into a barrel on a your homemade board. no matter what hue of pink it might be. so to all the barn yards talking shit on potsie1138, remember he is just spreading the seed for you to be able to give shaping a go...good one mate! and keep it up ,,,jes"eye"
Your board's awfull, so are your skills... And no, I will not follow your crappy method to build my surfboard. Proper materials for proper board is the key... Having said, hope you're enjoying your freeky surfing days!
You are a little twat, and showing the world your age and Intellect by your shallow and simple comments. You wouldnt have a chance building anything close to what this guy has done, and the bet is you cant even surf..FO
Dumbass...If this guy has gotten 1 person on here to run out and attempt this then kudos to him! It doesn't matter if it doesn't look like an Al Merrick, its his and he built it. I bet your one of those kook's who rides a Merrick but can't do anything on it....
thanks - yeah, I used hand planers to get the general shape, but did a lot of sanding too. It's slower, but less chance if botching up your first go. I'd love to see ur work - I've been asked to make a wakesurfer by a friend, and any help would be great!
If you were to add a stringer, what kind of material would you use.(What is typical)I plan on cutting my blank on a hotwire CNC machine, any suggestions on epoxy i shouild use? I am using 2 pound EPS.
I'm considering doing a second one (blue foam this time I get back from Down Under. Check out some diy websites for board buiding - there are a lot of ways to do the stringer.
Once again you prove you know absolutely nothing about surfing. Your pressure on a board is ALOT when you turn down the face of a wave. rather you weigh 400 pounds or 80. And I only weigh 153 and im 6'1 So your height to weight ratio is probally alot higher then mine. And your rocker is still the gayest shit i've ever seen. Stick to your lake surfing you kookass faggot.
Crappy home depot foam has huge cells, and it hard to get a smooth surface. I really suggest ordering a good quality blank, and have it shipped from USBlanks or something, it might cost a little more, but the end result will be infinitely better, and it will have a stringer...
wow amirvechter you are a dick and keyseroze your a cook if you think you can get a decent board for 75$ also you can tell that its a longboard so it would be even more. im sure the person who made this vid does not aprichiate your meanness

@benwesterlund apparently not. Poly resin will melt the EPS. You could cover it with a latex paint first though.

Thanks for the work you did.

Your a retard. Rocker is shaped into a board.
Not bent into it. and without a stinger your going to have WAY to much flex in your turn.

Thanks for the positive comments!!!
If i was 'chunked out' like you, I WOULD have to worry about flex - but that's not the case, so don't worry about it.
