How was Griffith able to find all these African-Americans to portray their heroic grandfathers, the men who fought in the Civil War and tried under threats of death to enter the political life of the Republic, in such a horrible and negative light? The same as you can find white actors willing to take roles as stereotypical unsophisticated, evil, greedy Americans in foreign films or how movies here have Middle Eastern actors willing to portray zealous terrorists. Plus, many of the "black" actors in this movie are really whites in black face makeup. And we don't know if these actors were told what the entire movie was actually about.
