I understood most of what you were saying/doing explaining it, but since I'm just getting into learning it, I think you went too fast for a newbie like me... But, it's good to know where to start from... Thanks...
dude.. you made a boo boo...at your video time 2:15 you called the 6 a major, but after you said minor. you indicated minor but meant M (right b4 diminished) sorry for criticism, but it was kind of confusing and I had to replay it a bunch! wonderful teaching, tho!
You are the Teacher. You have that rare talent that few teachers have, you can get the most boring subjects to be inspiring and fun.I skipped this stuff for too long. Thanks for getting me on line. I play non pedal but your lessons helps me get over my limitations with the instrument. Knowledge makes the musical intuition work stronger thats for sure.
Just wanted to let people know about my new book, Song Charting Made Easy (Hal Leonard publishing) it is a detailed play along guide to the nashville number system and will guide you through the system step by step. You will be playing a song with the system before you are through with chapter 1! you can preview it at... thenashvillenumbersystem .... dot com
thanks! great explanation. having a guitar helps out. I want to figure out the magic behind writing good songs and am investigating patterns such as 6-4-1-5.. etc. This really helps develop that kind of comprehension.
it's much easier to understand if you just think that the numbers relate to the notes of a major scale. 1 is the root of the key you're in and the numbers relate to the root. 2-3-and 6 chords are minor the rest are major save for the 7 diminished. It's just that easy!
Is it FROM nashville?...Its just basic theory...Studio players adopted this as a standard means of composing charts from which to improvise with...And its commonly called the NNS
is this really from nashville? this is a very common method of learning i've come across many times, but never heard it referred to as such. whats the deal?
Nice video. Are there any follow up videos to the nashville number system? Some of uas are beginners can you explain the system in detail? I already found this vid helpful... make more please
thanks for the vid, can't seem to find a whole lot out there about NNS. Question--how do you notate a stop/punch (similar to how a diamond indicates a sustained whole note)
Mickey, Thanks for all that you do for us. I am just getting started with the pedal steel and you make the learning easier. I'm in east Texas and come to Dallas alot. Would like to meet you sometime. Great Work! steve
Mickey, Great video! I've used the NNS for years. I spent 12 years in Nashville and toured with old stars like Percy Sledge, Impressions...Sometimes we only had a few hours to learn a whole show. COuldn't have done it w/o NNS.
Chris, yep Johns a good friend of mine. we played together in the River City opry in Jacksonville. Johns a great guy and a very talented musician..Thanks for staying in touch Chris...you feel free to write anytime...Mickey
Where can I buy one? Do i just go to the martialarm website? it seems like a Tae Kwon Do Training Equip. It will be good for jeet kune do and trapping hands I want to show you this style of training to you, just do a search for the martialarm in youtube or google.
Can't believe how far you go to help us steelers. When everybody else wants to keep shush shush lest you buy something, you are doing it to help.
I feel like I owe you Some Money, LOL. That was so valuable to me.Have been playing steel very earnestly for about 6 months now, picked it up the first time a year ago, but let a time gap interfere.Practice everyday now, since buying a used Mullen D10 HWP,
Beautiful guitar. Thanks Keep up the good work.Love the TC's in rear.
Moreleans, thanks for posting. Many people fear the theory side. Truth is it can explained mathematically fairly easy...Thaks for tuning in...When you get ready to buy a steel let me know what your looking ofr, Ill be here to help you find one....Mick

Singlpilot 2 years ago
whoops! he made a mistake at 2:18 when he said the '6' is "Major" - two seconds later he corrects himself by saying the '6' is "Minor".
Hope nobody gets confused by that...
