  • Whoa dude. Slow down.

  • I understood most of what you were saying/doing explaining it, but since I'm just getting into learning it, I think you went too fast for a newbie like me... But, it's good to know where to start from... Thanks...

  • are you going to make lesson 2, 3?

  • dude.. you made a boo boo...at your video time 2:15 you called the 6 a major, but after you said minor. you indicated minor but meant M (right b4 diminished) sorry for criticism, but it was kind of confusing and I had to replay it a bunch! wonderful teaching, tho!

  • Nickey...You got NONE of this?...Really?...None?

  • I didn't get it AT ALL.

  • Yeah man much respect !

  • Yeah Man much respect !

  • Yeah Man much respect !

  • You are the Teacher. You have that rare talent that few teachers have, you can get the most boring subjects to be inspiring and fun.I skipped this stuff for too long. Thanks for getting me on line. I play non pedal but your lessons helps me get over my limitations with the instrument. Knowledge makes the musical intuition work stronger thats for sure.

  • Just wanted to let people know about my new book, Song Charting Made Easy (Hal Leonard publishing) it is a detailed play along guide to the nashville number system and will guide you through the system step by step. You will be playing a song with the system before you are through with chapter 1! you can preview it at... thenashvillenumbersystem .... dot com

  • thanks! great explanation. having a guitar helps out. I want to figure out the magic behind writing good songs and am investigating patterns such as 6-4-1-5.. etc. This really helps develop that kind of comprehension.

  • yeah i can get it i really wanna know how to use this

  • I think I need lesson zero. This was a little over my head. Do you have a lesson zero?

  • @TylerDLR what he's saying is "Do-Re-Mi ect.

  • it's much easier to understand if you just think that the numbers relate to the notes of a major scale. 1 is the root of the key you're in and the numbers relate to the root. 2-3-and 6 chords are minor the rest are major save for the 7 diminished. It's just that easy!

  • Is it FROM nashville?...Its just basic theory...Studio players adopted this as a standard means of composing charts from which to improvise with...And its commonly called the NNS

  • is this really from nashville? this is a very common method of learning i've come across many times, but never heard it referred to as such. whats the deal?

  • you talk really fast dude i watched the video like 6 times to understand what you said

  • Oh now IM really confused...

  • whoops! he made a mistake at 2:18 when he said the '6' is "Major" - two seconds later he corrects himself by saying the '6' is "Minor".

Hope nobody gets confused by that...

  • I participated in a Bluegrass Workshop this past

Sunday and quickly realized that I needed to know

the Nashville Number System, especially since I

play bass!Thank you for this lesson!

  • THANK YOU! I just got hired by a band and the first thing I was told was "learn the Nashville number system".This is awesome.

  • Nice video. Are there any follow up videos to the nashville number system? Some of uas are beginners can you explain the system in detail? I already found this vid helpful... make more please

  • example if you have a 5 chord you want a stop at it would look like 5// with the // subscripted the // indicates a stop.

  • thanks for the vid, can't seem to find a whole lot out there about NNS. Question--how do you notate a stop/punch (similar to how a diamond indicates a sustained whole note)

  • Mickey, Thanks for all that you do for us. I am just getting started with the pedal steel and you make the learning easier. I'm in east Texas and come to Dallas alot. Would like to meet you sometime. Great Work! steve

  • Hey Mick , are you a pilot or a music teacher?lol

  • Uhhh..Im going to pick door number 2!...LOL..Ive gotts quit flying ONE day...maybe soon...

  • Mickey, Great video! I've used the NNS for years. I spent 12 years in Nashville and toured with old stars like Percy Sledge, Impressions...Sometimes we only had a few hours to learn a whole show. COuldn't have done it w/o NNS.

    Thanks,

    Joe Russ

  • Hey Mickey, good to chat with you.

It is Black. I got it from a guy in Georgia.

Also I believe we have a buddy in common here in the Jacksonville area, John Lemaster.

    Chris.

  • Wow Mickey, I am amazed.

Can't believe how far you go to help us steelers. When everybody else wants to keep shush shush lest you buy something, you are doing it to help.

I feel like I owe you Some Money, LOL. That was so valuable to me.Have been playing steel very earnestly for about 6 months now, picked it up the first time a year ago, but let a time gap interfere.Practice everyday now, since buying a used Mullen D10 HWP,

Beautiful guitar. Thanks Keep up the good work.Love the TC's in rear.

  • Moreleans, thanks for posting. Many people fear the theory side. Truth is it can explained mathematically fairly easy...Thaks for tuning in...When you get ready to buy a steel let me know what your looking ofr, Ill be here to help you find one....Mick

  • Hey mickey I'm a guitar player and have been at it for twenty years and I am interested in getting into steel playing. I have been playing a six string lap steel (40's gibson) in c6. I want to get a pedal steel soon. I think that your posts are both inspiring and helpful. I have been a bit intimidated by theory and you have shown me more than any teacher ever has! Thanks and keep it coming you have a rare talent

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! THIS MAKES IT SOOOO MUCH EASIER!!!! i would try to play with my grandpa and he shouts numbers at me! now i know what he's trying to dget me to do.
