Pocahontas was released in 1995, Avatar was an idea cameron had since 1988 then wrote his screenplay in early 1994 before Pocahontas. Cameron put the script in a drawer for a decade waiting for the technology to do justice to his vision.

Here are the similarites: 1) Main chars start out in wheel chairs 2) They have artificial bodies in unkown worlds 3) They fall in love with one of the natives 4) Weird flying things 5) Big battle

and there's probably more. you guys just say there aren't similarites because the trailers weren't in the same exact order and you were just comparing the trailers frame by frame. It's not like the trailers would be in the same order. duh.

Avatar was only mediocre because it had a $400 million budget. The story, characters and especially the script were pathetic. As a fan of Cameron's previous outings in sci-fi, I was majorly disappointed in the steaming pile that was Avatar. It's Pocahontas with silly blue smurf-elves, bad acting, and one of the worst scripts of the year. Best film of all time? Maybe for the idiots that only care about eye-candy.

Cameron had the idea for Avatar since 1988 and he wrote his script in 1993 before Pocahontas was released in 1995, he wanted to film his movie for a 1999 release date but decide to put the film on hold for a decade as he put the script in a drawer waiting for the technology to do justice to his movie. Do you think this movie will ever be as good as Aliens, terminator 1 & 2 and The Abyss or is this Cameron's worst film? and just because it's a success doesn't mean it's good right?

NO, Avatar is not a copy. Avatar was a story Cameron had since 1988 when he wrote the plot and ideas on a piece of paper he put in his drawer for years then in 1993 he wrote an 80 page screenplay and Pocahontas was released in 1995. Cameron didn't film it right away as he decided to wait a decade for the technology to get advanced. Do you think he should have changed the story and plot while waiting a decade?

the only similarity here is floating mountains and thats been around since Flash Gordon. i think FernGully is a closer comparison but it doesnt matter. Avatar is a great film that took a time-honored story (Dances w/ Wolves, Dune, Last of the Mohicans) about embracing simpler cultures against a greedier one and took it to new heights. Shut and enjoy. At least twice and in iMax 3D. otherwise you may miss the point.

Yes, its similar to a few of the movies you named (though not all, no). so whats your point? I see from other posts you think its original. I see it as Last of the Mohicans and Dances with Wolves in space. Cameron wrote this in 1988? those two books i named were written in 1826 and 1986. This story is almost 200 years old. I love Avatar but i am not confused about its originality.

Well Avatar definitely wins and takes a crap on delgo. If anyone thinks these similarities were more than coincidence then they obviously haven't seen or known the true facts and stories of both. Go see avater in 3D if you haven't already. If you have, spend another $12 and see it again.

Cameron borrowed nothing from Delgo? He's had the story and sketches for 15 years! If anything Delgo stole from Avatar. Probably someone who worked with Cameron, heard some of Cameron's story saw some sketches and then shortly after quitting from Cameron's production company. He made Delgo.

This trailer doesn't do the similarities justice. If you do a google search for a pictoral comparison, you can see the designs of the visuals are ridiculously similar. This doesn't mean Avatar will be a bad movie, but only an idiot would argue that its designs are original.
