Back in the 60's, Jimmy Webb might have written a chord progression like the one in the chorus. That was the kind of chords he liked. So this seems almost in the heritage of a Jimmy Webb or Bacharach and David tune. Way updated of course, but showing some influences. the setting (wealth and Hollywood) seems consistant too.

I actually think the song has a much more literal meaning applying to sex and ultimately, relationships.

I believe the lyrics seem to hint at an off and on, but ultimately dissatisfying relationship. The tone of the music seems very melancholy and regretful.
