I've raced handfuls of '97 - '02 Maxima 5 speeds and handfuls of GTs of ALL different years. A '99 - '03 GT 5 spd is faster than a '97 - '02 Maxima 5 spd, stock for stock. I'm not partial to either car, I like 'em both. I'm just stating my experience, and in my experience (which is alot with these cars and others) the GT is faster. The guy in Gt was getting shitty starts for whatever reason. Was it an auto?

Nissans poor build quality. I owned a 97 Honda Accord and had nothing but problems with it. Windows dieing, radiator falling apart, ball joints failing, give me a break on this quality shit.

My Maxima is also a 97 and I've not had any of these problems the Honda had. Oh my mistake, my radiator started to leak at 250k but I still got that many miles under my belt with no problems. These cars are made to roll.

That particular Maxima does 14 secs on the dot. And those are typical numbers for a tuned, all-motor maxima. IT DOES NOT HAVE A TURBO. A turbo max would easily drop to at least 12s maybe high 11s.

The mustang isn't anything special, but I assure you they don't have much trouble off the line. Solid axle rear, although shitty in corners, is going to be superior to a front wheel drive car given equal drivers.

RWD does NOT equal better handling. They have different characteristics. A FWD car with decent suspension design e.g. an ITR or CTR would wipe the floor with a regular stang GT around a racetrack. RWD is better when you have more power than the chassis was designed for, but up until 250hp or so FWD cars get along just fine.

For the record, the A32 Maxima actually has a solid axle rear as well and has a lot of wheel hop issues (hence my name).

Ok, let's put it this way. You tell me what a good 60' time for a Maxima is on street tires. Factory GT's can hit 2.0 fairly easily with proper track prep. Some can hit 1.9, and I HIGHLY doubt you will ever see that out of a Maxima on street tires. I'm sorry, but the GT simply has a better launching platform - end of story.

yea i guy did a 60' of 2.067 on street tires on a stock 4th gen maxima, that max is moded so there is no suprise it runs 13s all day. as far as wheel hop the GT also has some horrible wheel hop as well until somebody does something about that suspension

Even on a stock suspension, it's possible to pull a 1.9. I'll tell you right now that the stock suspension isn't that great for launching (for a RWD vehicle), but it still has more potential in stock form than a Maxima. Once you actually bother to mess with the suspension and tires, I've seen people pilot the manuals to a 1.4 60'. Either way you argue it, it has more potential.
